I hunted a Red female a few years back that had as good a bottom as as any walker iv ever hunted but she was week on the tree, just didnt have much stick and was fairly timid, is she would have had the the tree power like she did on track she would have been a fine hound. she could flat out run a bobcat i know that ..........

I've been pretty lucky to hunt with a few nice red dogs. I hunted with Cyrus when he was a youngster and he looked solid all the way around. I hunted with three generations of the Brush Buster dogs one night. I believe it was Buster II, Junior and Rhino. Man, that Rhino was a pretty sucker. We treed a lot of coons. The nicest female I hunted with was Ms Jessie. She was one of Wayne Campbell's pup trainers at the time. After she treed that first possum (sorry Wayne but I couldn't resist), she flat out treed the coons. It was one of those boring hunts. Just treeing coon after coon after coon. She was one of the fastest locating dogs I've ever seen. I don't think she was ever put in a competition hunt so nobody has probably ever heard of her but man what a coon treeing machine.

I've been coon hunting for almost 50 yrs and have never been out with a Redbone that I would consider a good coonhound or as a matter of fact never saw one tree a coon without help from another color..I am sure there some out good ones out there, just never been with one..I am not trying to knock you Redbone folks just one mans observation...

just about any dog kevin shirley or butch roeder was pushing in the hunts you could count on being a COONDOG. david bowling had a bitch gr nt bowling s maggie was a #1 in every department was direct out of hayes rambling red ace. in our country red dogs are probably the #3 or 4 of choice in hunts and shows. tks butch glass

I have hunted with some awfully good spotted dogs (a couple of World Champions) and even owned one but I haven't been "converted" yet. Do you think that yours could convert me?

i had a two nice walkers one cause he would tree coons the other cause he won alot of money on slick trees...they called them circles i called them slicks...just had better luck with redbones they want to please you instead of being scattered brained...hunted a decent one for a guy on here that would have been nice i just didnt have the patience for him...ive got two now that i really like my female is a get yonder dog that likes to be by herself but in your words not a hard tree dog...i dont care how hard she trees if the two dont catch her...my male is a layup dog deluxe that is a nice tree dog but i like my female alot more...she has a deep BIG BAWL mouth that is louder than most male dogs...

Lets not turn this thread into an argument. I am sure everyeone has there reasons for hunting the breed they hunt. If they please the man feeding them then that is all that matters.

Best redbone i have ever hunted with... That would have to be two dogs both of them coming out of MR. John Biggert's kennel. One would have to be his Aftershock dog great hound and i have treed lots of coons with him and john jr pleasure hunting. The second dog i actually had the chance to handle in 2010 american redbone days. This female really knows how to get it done this dogs name being Amber. Them are probably the best red dogs if not best dogs period i have ever hunted with.

Not trying to start nothing but I cant recall ever hunting with a real good red dawg. Hunted with a couple back 10-12 years ago that were decent but nothing special. Just country coondogs. A local guy named Chip Burnett owned them. I know there are plenty of good ones out there, I just hav'nt been fortunate enough to hunt with them.

20+ years ago I hunted on the regular with a man that bought a pup off of Hennings Cheif, I believe Bob Hennings from Iowa was the breeder.

The dog was named Cheif after his daddy, he was a coon treeing SOB. Problem was his owner was new to coonhunting and let the dog get rough. If he'd been in the hands of someone that knew what they were doing no telling what that dog would have won, he had ALL the tools and was beautiful too. Little Cheif was a super nice Red dog and put a lot of walker dogs to shame, he was also the only Reddog I've ever hunted with that I would feed.

ron trents grade dog called missippee that hound could make a coon we bred her to a walker and made several nice pups

This is very easy for me to answer. There are not a ton of redbones hunted in my area.The only one ive ever been out with that I would consider as being a world class coondog was Nighty night moonlight kate. She would please anyone hunting any breed. I was only fortunate enough to hunt with her one night but she looked real good that night. Id like to think im pretty hard to impress but she really left an impression on me. Coondog that could get the job done in style.

Wrights Timber Hoss.drew him a couple times and I was hunting a power house walker and Hoss made her look bad.He was a honest strike dog that could drive a track,cold or hot and get treed with the meat.Hoss never made past a nt champion but it wasn't because he wasn't capable.he was probably as good of a dog i have ever hunted with,and i have hunted with a bunch of them.

for all you guys that listed vickers' hawks red storm wich is the dog that shane marceys has owned for a while now won the triple crown with is a get by his self coondog, and i know this for sure myself, and storm being mentioned would be appreciated by the man that raised storm and storms sire hawk. we trained a many of a puppy storm included by ole hawk and night after night drop after drop hawk was by far the most consistent coondog i ever saw and by the way i dont even hunt red dogs. storm's grandpa done alot of big time winning many year ago too. i just thought i would say my two cents because these dogs were rased here in the hills of ky by my friend Rick Vickers, wish he had the internet to actualy see that people mentioned storm now.
