blues
Normally I would steer away from this one but dont' agree with the opinion that blues are capable of treeing more coons when tracking gets tough. I have no issue with either breed. But I am concerned with all the competitions and super stakes and all that, walker breeders may be on the road to breed walker dogs that cannot tree coons when the tracking gets tough. I have owned Walker dogs that could trail a cold track as good as any breed. Had a good a mouth as any breed. Had a Finley River Dog (grandson to Chief) that was cold nosed, bawl mouth, would not be outdone on cold tracking by any dog. Bawl mouth tree dog, didn't blow the top out of a tree but would be there and have the meat. My only complaint, and it was minor, didn't like his color. He looked like a big beagle. I prefer the old open spotted walkers with black head and pumpkin seeds above the eyes (guess as Dave Dean claims, they get that from their Black & Tan ancestors.) Sadly, my fear is that these types of Walkers are going to get less popular and rare. I hope I am wrong. I am a pleasure hunter and have hunted my share of "go yonder" dogs. Too old for that crap anymore. If a dog cannot find a coon in the woods or at least the section I am hunting in, come back to me. That is why I have a pickup. That's my opinion, but opinions are like rectums, everyone has one.
