People for get that for many, many years they "gave" the national championship to whoever had the best record among the Ivy League and midwest regardless of actually on the field accomplishments.

Remember a man named General Neyland? He had the last team that was UNSCORED UPON, that team held the #1 team in the land SCORELESS that year, not once but TWICE, the second time when Neylands team was #2, so it was a #1 vs #2 matchup, #2 held #1 scoreless winning the game and they awarded the national championship the next week to the team that was #3 or so with a loss. WTF????? Neyland had taken on #1 two times and held all teams scoreless and he didn't get the AP NC.

This is the same time that a quarterback with a LOSING record was "awarded" the heistman. That is the era of Little 10 dominance, if you want to count those "gifts" then so be it, the love affair with the little 10 and the media didn't just start in the 90's when they changed how they matched the SEC up with other teams cause they wanted it to be more "competitive", it has always been that way. The reason 1936 is used so much and is considered the "modern" era is becasue the love affair with the little 10 was so strong before that that things like the above happened every year. A little 10 team could be stomped by a different team and at the end of the year the little 10 team would get the NC and the team that kicked their @$$ could be undefeated and finish 3rd behind 2 little 10 teams or ND that they had beaten.

Thats why we love it so much every time the little 10 is exposed by the Appilachian States of the world.

tOSU, 5th in the SEC.

i heh

After all the spelling errors, I think that I might understand what you are saying. First,,,, the Ivy league isn't really Div 1A. The service schools aren't on the same planet as anyone else as far as Nat. champs. Other than that argument,,, all I heard was bla bla bla,,,, little ten,,,, bla bla bla I'm an inbred hillbilly. wtf is a "heistman"? And you want to talk to me about football?? Hey, do you smell like corndogs?

Like it or not it ALL comes down to money! They HAD to have big schools play for the N.C. or who would have payed big bucks for a ticket? I am NOT knocking the smaller schools with better w/l records, but I would not want to watch lets just say, Mizz against Hawaii!!

The Heistman is not a spelling error. It's what it is, a heist given to whom ESPN wants to have it. It is NOT an honorable award any longer and hasn't been for some time, just like it didn't start OUT as an honorable award (becasue until the 1950's the bias was so bad it went to ND/Midwest/Little 10 player regardless of on the field accomplishments).

If you count all time you count when the SEC wasn't even ALLOWED to win a NC due to the same reason as they weren't ALLOWED to win a heistman.

General Neyland was personally robbed at least 3 times (he got NC's but not AP NC's even though he was undefeated and unscored upon while beating the AP #1 2 times in the same year and this occured in 39 I think). Now I think he still got like 3 AP NC's but had he been at ND with the exact same records he would have likely gotten no less than 9-10 NC's during that time. That's just the way it was. Kinda like back then the NC was awarded BEFORE the bowl games so coaches like Neyland didn't even play their seniors in bowl games, they used them for practice. That seems silly now but that's what they did then just like it's silly that a southern team wasn't allowed to win a NC.

If you want to count the times that the SEC wasn't allowed to win then by all means that's fine. YOu can even count the years during WWI and WWII when the SEC didn't play football at all due to sending their boys to the war.

But, if you are going to go back that far, when the only ones considered for the NC were the service acadimies, ND, and the Ivy League then you gotta say the Ivy League and ND dominated that era, not the little 10.

It still doesn't change the fact that the SEC year in and year out is the toughest conference in college football bar none, and it's usually not even close.

This year I happen to think that the SEC is a little down and the little 10 may actually have a chance in some of the bowl games.

Naaahhh, as usual bet against the little 10 in the bowls and you will be money ahead.

The SEC didn't invent football, they just PERFECTED IT.

LOL.

Well let's see. Who has OSU played this year? Michigan, who was soundly beaten by Appalachian State? Losing to Illinois at home? I believe Missouri beat Illinois soundly. OSU just happened to back into the BCS bowl game. Ohio State or LSU couldn't beat OU in quadruple overtime. I guess BCS championship doesn't denote the best Vs the best anymore. JMO GO SOONER"S

Unranked Texas tech or unranked 6-6 Colorado didn't need quadruple overtime to beat the Sooners. If OSU "backed" into the championship game, what did LSU do other than go from #7 to #2 by beating a 4 loss Tennessee team?

This year we should have no national champ. Like a final cast of the world no coon seen> NO CHAMPION

How can a 2 loss team and a team that lost at home to a unranked 3 loss team be the best of the best? Maybe we need to get Mexicans here to play ball too

OSU

As far as the Illinois comments they are a much different team now than early. Why do you think theyre playing in the Rose bowl? The schedule you play in your league cant be helped but each team is graded based on their league perception which may or may not be accurate.OSU did not gain their bowl game by beating Michigan they earned it by winning 11 out of 12 games during the season. As for the OU comments they have an argument but they made their bed so now they lay in it.Robert Starke Missouri beat Illinois by 6 and illinoishad 7 turnovers and outgained Missouri not very soundly in my book.

I posted earlier on this thread the breakdown of the other teams losses, when compared to OSU and LSU these are the two teams that belong in the NC game. Also I have said before the days of a no loss team always in the NC or just 1 loss teams may be less frequent than what most of you want. The NFL has only had 1 undefeated Super Bowl Champion and several 1-2 loss Super Bowl Champions and yet some of you have problems with a 1-2 loss college NC ? Of those 1-2 loss SB champs did any of you think that they did not deserve to be there. Oh, I almost forgot, did I mention that LSU played 2 top 10 teams a #12, #14 and 3 #17 teams . Thats 7 top twenty teams nationaly ranked and won 6. NO ONE EVEN COMES CLOSE TO MATCHING THAT RECORD WITH THEIR SCHEDULE THIS YEAR THAT IS RANKED EVEN IN THE TOP 25!!!!! LSU did this with many injuries of play makers on both sides of the ball on the bench. How any of you can say LSU does not belong in this NC game lets me know you are not very objective in your thinking.

I know you know or at least you should know at the time of the victory over OSU they were 3 times beaten and UNRANKED.

SEC

The SEC is the best conference in the Nation. No one can go undefeated in the SEC. The worse team is just as good as the best. If they were to ever have a playoff system a SEC team would win 100 % of the team.

That being said: LSU 34
OSU10

This is visual proof that some people shouldn't be permitted to post.

Are you saying that Vandy and Ole Miss are as good as LSU and UGA?

It's a good thing they don't go to a playoff system then. Everyone else would have to quit playing football and take up ping pong or something. It wouldn't be worth it for other non-SEC teams to show up just to get beat down by SEC 's bottom feeders!! The SEC would just have to start a ping pong team and dominate that too!!

LSU

Some of these ranked teams youre bragging about were but are not ranked now.I would rather lose to a team that is ranked in the end then one that fell apart and dropped out.

Well if you just have to cut LSU then technically LSU played 8 ranked teams by the season end and they beat 4 that are still ranked in the BCS played 5 that are still in the top 25. Only 3 of those dropped out and Ken. is playing Fl. St in the Music City and Al. playing Col. in the Independence. They did finish weaker than some expected but the only one to "fall off" as you say was SC.
Even at season end they played 5 teams that are STILL ranked and 7 that are playing in bowl games. So your statement is not really an accurate picture of their schedule or the teams they played, I still do not think any other team played or beat that many ranked teams after the last week of the season was over. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

Oh, I forgot to mention since end of season rankings are so important, of OSU 4 ranked opponents durining the season only ONE was ranked at the end, #18 Wi., Ill. was not ranked when they beat OSU but is ranked #13 at the seasons end. That still does not look very good when measured up against LSU end of seson opponent rankings.

I did go back and look at the schedules on ESPN which aslo displays the teams rank when they played them and LSU has 2x twice the number of oppenents ranked at the end of the season than any of the top 12 teams, all others had two 2 at most, compared to LSU 4 , also LSU has the most oppenents going to bowl games than any other team in the top 12.

Did you watch the Missouri -Illinois game or did you just catch the score and stats? Missouri was ahead 24-7 at the half and coasted the second half.

OU blew the Colorado game. The Tech game, Bradford was injured during the first series of downs and replaced. OU came back strong in the second half with a QB who hadn't taken a snap before Bradford's departure. OU could have won the game with a neophyte QB. Did you watch OU play Missouri? That was real Sooner football. Has LSU or OSU beat the #1 ranked team this year? OU, healthy at the year end, was awsome.

Missouri's only 2 losses of the year came at the hands of OU. 3 of the top 10 teams are from the big 12.

Are you implying OSU and LSU backed into the BCS game? Bradford was injured in the Tech loss, but OU came back in the second half and almost won with a QB who hadn't taken a snap until that game. OU blew the Colorado game. No team was stronger than OU at the end of the season. I agree with CastEm, we need a playoff.
