Mr. Tommy

Everything is fine here. The only thing I have here is Smoke and Sheba 11. That's really all I need, but you know how us coonhunters are, we can't leave well enough alone, so I've got a cross I've had on my mind for a while that I might make this year if everything works out. I hear that you guys are putting some pups on the ground that are doing good. Congratulations. Chad Breaud, I haven't heard anything out of him in years. I thought them Louisana hogs might have ate him. LOL. Tell him I said hello.

Gin lll

image

Mr. Tommy, This is Jin lll (Case and Jin) The picture doesn't show how she really is, but she acts good and has a good mouth on her. She is 8 weeks old and doing good. Chase did a good job of raising them. I'll be glad when she is old enough to hit the woods. It's surely been a rainey day. It started about 9 this morning and its 4:30 now and I think we have had close to 3 inches and its still raining.

Rain/Snow

Mr Jack

Hope everything is going well. 3 inches of rain is a lot at one time. I think the night you and I hunted together years ago we got 5 inches while we were hunting!
We are in the middle of a blizzard here. We already got close to a foot of snow with high winds and it is supposed to snow all day tomorrow too.

I will be glad when spring comes.

Take Care,

Scott

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run tonight. Cast her down a spring fed branch. She went in about 150 yards and struck a good track and didn't go far and locked up treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a big tuplar gum. It didn't take long to find the coon. Sheba had been laid up for a while, so I let her have this one. when she was through with it we moved on down the swamp. We went through about a foot of water where it was crossing over the road going into the swamp. We went on down closer to the river on higher ground and I cast her into some thick stuff that opens up into a pretty swamp about 150 yards in. She struck before she got through the thick stuff. I was hoping she didn't get deep because there is a lot of water in there tonight. She turned left abut the time she hit the good woods and went up the edge of the thick stuff for about 150 yards and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a large oak about 30 yards out in the thick stuff. I walked around in there for several minutes and finally found a small opening where I could see one spot up toward the top. I hit my squaller and two coons looked at me. I walked in and leashed up Sheba and we left these to run again. We made our way back to the four wheeler and called it a night.

Thanks Steve and Tommy for the compliments on my pup. When she gets old enough we will give her a chance to see what she can do.

Scott, I don't see how you guys make it up there in that cold weather and snow. Good hunting fellows.

Sheba 11

Sheba 11 doing her thing tonight. Treed on vines in two different trees tonight. Turned her down a branch tonight and she went in about 300 yards and struck the first coon and didn't go far and locked up treed on the tree in the top picture. I went around on another woods road and got within about 50 yards of her and walked on in. She was treed up some vines going up into a big hardwood. I backed up a little ways to where I could see the tree and hit the squaller and he looked at me from out on a limb about 2/3 up. We left him to run again and headed on down toward the river. I turned her down river and she struck about 100 yards in and moved it on in about 250 yards and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed on another vine going up into another big hardwood tree that you see in the bottom picture. I shinned in there for several minutes without being able to see much of the tree. She was treed next to a big cutover that was clear cut about 6 years ago. I made my way out into the cutover that had grown up in mostly hedge bushes, but I found a clear spot that I could see the tree good and when I looked there he sat up toward the top. We also left him to run again and made our way back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for another run tonight. turned her down a spring fed branch. She went in a ways and struck and came back up the branch toward me. She came to the road and colverts that we came in on and crossed and went on above for about 300 yards and treed. I went around on another road and got within 50 yards of her and walked on in. She was treed in a hugh oak that had caved over in the slough and backwater. I tried to get to where I could see the tree better, but the water was too deep. I couldn't get to where I could see much more than what you see in the picture. I got her out of there and we headed down river. I turned her loose headed south down river. She went in a ways and struck a cold track. She moved it on in a couple hundred yards and never could get it out of there. The river hasn't gone down hardly any and there is a lot of water in the swamps, so I decided to call her out and we called it a night.

Hunting with friends

My friend Toby Hudson came up last night from La. to make a hunt with me. We really had a good time. We treed 4 times and the leaves and trees were so thick and the moon shinning so bright, that we had a hard time shinning the trees. The last tree we made was a big turkey pine and you could not see any part of the tree. We had both walked around the tree several times shinning and nothing. Toby finally walked right up beside the tree and looked strait up and there he sat on a limb about 2/3 up the tree. We left him to run again and called it a night.

Sleepy, I told Toby that I wasn't going to tell you this so I,m going to write it. We started out of the woods and when I got out to the road. Toby was not behind me. I listened and I could hear him gasing on that new four wheeler of his. I turned around and went back to see what was wrong and he had bogged that four wheeler down to the axles and he was in the same tracks that I had just come through. I had to pull him all the way to the road. That new 4-wheeler of his looked like a big pile of mud.

Lol.

Jack I’ really appreciate you telling me that cause I talk to him and he seems to always leave out the fun part. Since u let me no that I must give you a story about the new four wheeler. We hunted one night the dogs got treed out in some water in the cold winter and he jump off his bike so it didn’t get mud on it and walk to the tree about 75 yards from the road. Me and AJ road our bikes pass him to the tree he found the Coon in the tree and he ask me to reach him the riffle so he can shot it out. Now he have a gun rack and gun on his bike.😁😁😁😁.

Congratulations Chris and Sheba 11

Jeremy and Chris Loaded up Smoke and Sheba 11 yesterday and traveled to the Slam hunt in Hattisburg, Ms. It was put on by the Ms. State Coonhunters assoc. They had a good turn out in the hunt. I think Chris said there were 46 dogs hunted. Sheba won 1st place and high scoring dog. This finished Sheba 11 to Nite Ch. with 3 first place wins.

Congratulations to Jeremy and Sheba 11

Again yesterday after winning 1st place and High Scoring dog at the 1st leg of the of the Slam hunt in Hattisburg, Ms. Friday night.
Chris had to work so Jeremy loaded up Sheba 11 and traveled to the UKC Slam hunt in Wiggins, Ms. Put on by the Ms. State Coonhunters Assoc. where Sheba again won her cast and placed in the top 4 dogs there. This gave Sheba her first Nite Ch. win. This was also another Handler of the year hunt for the Ms. State Coonhunters Assoc., so this should have put Jeremy and Chris on their way toward that award. I like to claim Sheba as mine, but she really belongs to all three of us. Congratulations guys and thanks.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run tonight. Turned her down a spring fed branch, She went in about 200 yards and struck a track and started moving it out of there. I knew we were in for a bad night when she turned east and crossed a cut over and around the back side of some 20 year old planted pines where she swung back north up the side of a lake. There is a nice strip of hardwood along a lake drain on the north side of the lake. I was hoping the coon would take a tree on my side of the lake drain, but it didn't happen. On the other side of that drain is about a 1000 acre 15 year old clear cut. That use to be one of the prettiest swamps that you could ever walk through, but it will be a long time before it will be that way again. When she got in there about 200 yards. I decided I had better start calling while she could still hear me, so I waited until she made a lose where she could hear me. I called a few times and in a few minutes she was standing beside the 4-wheeler. We loaded up and traveled on down the river. I cast her down the river and she went in 150 yards and struck a working track and moved it on in another 200 yards and treed. I walked in to her. and she was treed up a pretty good sized hardwood that was loaded with big vines. I shined for a while, but I didn't figure I would ever see him because it was so thick in there. I walked in to leash Sheba and before I got to her I looked strait up and there it was looking down at me from about half way up. We left him to run again. We called it a night.

Look what I got Toby, This is a turn loose coon, not a lead coon. The darn horse flies are so bad that its hard for the dogs to do anything with 8 to 10 horse flies on their back. I'm headed to tractor supply first thing in the morning to get something for them. I'm going to start working them more at night. I don't think they are quite as bad at night as they are in the day time. This ole pup might make it Toby.
