Yes sir, Mr. Jack, still can't view them. Maybe I need to join the site where you store them. Since Photobucket started charging people to use them, I swapped to Tinypics.

Sheba 11

Loaded Sheba up tonight and we rode down river to some woods that I havn't hunted in a few years. It was good to go back in there again, sure is a beautiful swamp. I dropped Sheba off the four wheeler and she went in toward the river and turned south down river. She struck in a little over 300 yards. It was a cold track. She kept moving down river. I left the 4-wheeler where I dropped her off and started walking. I could have rode in there and if I had known we were going to end up that far In there I would have rode. She wound up treed in a medium sized hardwood tree and one of the its limbs went over into a hugh oak. I had glanced over the smaller tree as I walked in and decided he was probably in the big oak, so I shinned it for a few minutes and there were some vines in it. I shook a couple of them and backed off a ways and looked it over and caught an eye down low and on the other side of the tree. I walked back around and there he was sitting right in the top of the smaller tree. I decided to let her have this one. After she was finished with it, I looked at my garmin and it was 824 yards back to the 4-wheeler. I leashed Sheba up and we started walking. We called it a night.

Smoke and Sheba

Chris came by tonight and we loaded Smoke and Sheba and traveled over across the river and down the river a few miles. We dropped the dogs off in a real pretty swamp with hugh Cyprus and Oak trees with several sloughs in there. A coonhunters paradise. We had two Small coons treed within 2 minutes of the first turn loose. I hated to shoot both of them out, but when you have the land owner along with you and he says shoot the coons out, That's what you do. We loaded the dogs up and moved around on another slough. Cast the dogs again and struck another good track at about 300 yrds, moved it on in another 100 yrds and treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up a hugh Cyprus. We found the coon pretty quick and knocked it out. We walked back toward the 4-wheelers and recast the dogs. They had to go hunting this time. They dropped in about 900 yards and struck and didn't go far and locked up treed again. We rode the 4-wheelers to within about 75 yards of them. They were treed out on a small knowl right out in the middle of the slough. Me, Chris and Cole Waded out there and found the coon pretty quick and Cole knocked him out with the second shot. We waded back out of there and loaded the dogs up and moved to another spot. We had seen a coon out in the middle of a slough among the Cyprus trees. We were going to turn the dogs in on the other side of the road and let them go hunting, but they doubled back and got after the one that we had seen. They ran it about 50 yards and caught it in the slough. Chris waded out there and got it. It was another small coon.
The boys have to go to school in the morning so we decided to call it a night.

This is the boys that were hunting with us tonight. They are Chris's two boys Carter and Cole and T.J.'s boy and I cant think of his name right now. I'll have to put it in later. They are 3 tough boys. They were the ones that were doing our shooting tonight and unlike Jeremy and Chris they are pretty good shots.

You start leaving coon in the tree and some landowners will be looking for new hunters. Appears to be a fine hunting party.

Squirrel Hunt

enjoyed the hunt this morning with 3 brothers and land owner Odell. The squirrels sure were not moving. Windy had to hunt hard for the few that we did get.

Kevin, I enjoy hunting with those kids, they always got something going on.

Dennis you are right about the land owners.

Smoke, Sheba

Jeremy and Chris came by tonight and we Loaded up Smoke and Sheba and Jeremy had his Pete pup along. We rode down the river aways and turned the dogs loose in an oak and Cyprus swamp not to far off the river. They went in a couple hundred yards and struck a pretty good track. They moved the track east for about 500 yards and made a circle and headed back west to pretty close to where they had struck and turned north for about 700 yards. We were beginning to think that this might not be a coon. Smoke was beginning to get quite and he and Sheba was beginning to split up. Smoke moved on in deeper and got treed. Sheba was still pushing the original track pretty hard. Chris and Jeremy went toward Smoke and I went back around on the river to get closer to Sheba, by the time I got around there and stopped to listen, Sheba was treed. When She treed, Smoke pulled to her. Smoke usually
don't pull, but he did this time. I got to within about a hundred yards of them and walked in to them. They were treed out in the edge of a Slough. I saw the coon as I was walking in. I think the dogs were trying to make me believe that they were running this coon all the time, but I didn't believe that. I think that Sheba just came across this coon and dropped off what ever it was she was running and treed it. I knocked the coon out to them although I don't think either one of them deserved it. I leashed the dogs up and as I was walking away from the tree I met Chris coming in. We walked back to the 4-wheelers. Jeremy had picked his pup up on the road that we had come in on and left him at the truck. We started out and decided to make one more drop out close to the river. We turned Smoke and Sheba loose and they went in about 350 yards and struck. They moved the track on in another 150 yards and locked up treed. We rode on around and got to within about 75 yards of the dogs and walked on in to them. They were treed pretty close to another slough. We started shinning and Chris found the coon pretty quick. We left this one to run again. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and called it a night.

We been having some long races with the coons rutting, and I would think we were running something other than a coon. But with all the roads that run through the lease, we get to see them crossing. Yall might have run one of them old boar coons, but you been in this game long enough to know, what is really happening.

Good Pictures

Mr Jack it looks like those kids had a lot of fun treeing those 5 coons. Looks like the older kids had a lot of fun squirrel hunting too. Great pictures as always, really like looking at them and reading the stories. Thanks a Ton for Hunting Blue while I was healing up. Talk to you later.

Smoke and Sheba 11

Chris came by tonight and we loaded up Smoke And Sheba and traveled over across the river to where we hunted the other night. The three young boys that were with us were fired up and ready to go. We dropped the dogs off a ridge along the side of a slough. They went in to about 300 yards and struck a good track, moved it on up the slough to a little over 600 yards and treed. We rode to within about 100 yards of where they were treed and walked on in. They were treed up a hugh oak. It took us several minutes to find the coon, but we finally found him laying flat on a limb up close to the top. We leashed up the dogs and about that time we saw another light coming our way. The dogs had crossed the line off the land that we were originally hunting on, onto this mans place, but he was a good guy and Chris knew him. We talked a minute and he shook our hand and told us to have a good hunt. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and drove around on another ridge and cast the dogs. They went in 350 yards and struck and treed pretty quick. We drove to within about 50 yards of them and walked on in. They were treed up another hugh Oak. After looking the tree over we realized this was the same big den tree that Blue had treed up a few nights ago. We walked back over the ridge and cast the dogs back down the slough on the other side. They went in about 100 yards and struck and trailed another 50 yards and locked up treed. We walked down the slough till we were even with them. They were treed about 50 yards out in the slough. We saw the coon from the bank. We waded out there to them and the water was over my boots. This is the tree in the top picture where Sheba is about 6 feet above the water. I don't know how she got up there. We leashed the dogs and waded back out of there. When we got to the bank we cast the dogs on down the slough. They went down the slough about 200 yards and struck again. They trailed on down the slough another 100 yards and treed. We walked on down the slough to them and this time they were treed on the bank. They were treed on a smaller tree on the band that went up into a hugh Cyprus at the edge of the slough. We shinned both trees, but we couldn't shine the back side of the big Cyprus because of the slough. If he was there we didn't see him. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and called it a night. We left the coons in the trees tonight to run again. The boys said they had a good time and would be ready to go again.

Hunts

That's a great picture Mr. Jack!

I got another nice pup report from the Shadow and Hammerhead cross. Seems like that cross is going to be pretty independent dogs. Hope everything is going well.

Take Care,
Scott

HOUNDS

Mr Jack those are some good looking hounds and some good looking young men. Nice to see that younger generation in the woods. I am so lucky to have my youngest son hunt with me. He is 20 yrs old now , time flies!! He loves it and I am trying to pass my "limited" knowledge of hounds, breeding, and hunting to him. It takes patience sometimes with this younger generation and I'm glad to see you doing the same with these young fellows. Darren

Hunting with Kids

Thank you Darrin for the compliment on Smoke and Sheba. I really enjoy hunting with these young boys, and your right it takes some patience sometime. Its great that you have your son to hunt with you. My two boys hunted with me when they were home, but as they grew older families of their own and other responsibilities took them away. It's good to hear that you and Scott are partnering up. Scott is a great guy. I look to be hearing a lot of good things from you two in the future. Take care and good hunting.

Smoke and Sheba II

Chris came by tonight and we loaded up Smoke and Sheba and we traveled over across the riverand down the river aways. We dropped them off a hardwood ridge down a slough. They went in about 250 yards and struck a working track and moved it on down the slough another 200 yards and locked up treed. We went around on another ridge and drove to about 20 yards of them and walked on to them They were treed up a large oak. We found the coon pretty quick and left him to run again. We walked back across the road that we came in on and cast them down another slough. They went in about 350 yards and struck pretty good track. They moved the track on in another 400 yards and locked up treed. We had to go back out to the highway and around on another road and drive back in to them We came to a house on the side of the road close to where the dogs were treed. We saw a woman out from the house close to where the garmin said the dogs were treed. She said she thought the dogs were chasing her cats and she had run them off the tree. She seemed to be upset over her cats. One of the guys that were with us knew her and went up there and talked to her and assured her that thee dogs were after a coon and were not fooling with her cats. after he talked with her she calmed down and even offered to open the gate there close to her house so we could drive back in there and get closer to the dogs as they had gone back toward where we had turned loose and struck another track. We told her that we appreciated it, but we would go around on an old oil field road toward them. We went down the oilfield road a couple hundred yards and listened and they were treed again. We went in to about 50 yards of them and walked on in and they were treed up another oak and there were two coons up it. We left both of them to run again. We went a little deeper into the swamp and cast the dogs again. They moved the track on in another 350 yards and treed again. We drove on in to withinabout 100 yards of the dogs and walked on in to them. They were treed about 25 yards out in the slough. Chris and TJ waded out to them and they were treed in a den. Chris said that he could see where it was wet where the coon went up the tree and into a hole. We drove on down the ridge aways and cast the dogs again. They went in about 400 yards and struck a working track and moved it on down the slough another 250 yards and locked up treed. We tried several different places to get in to the dogs without having to wade the deeper sloughs. Finally Chris and TJ said they would walk in to the dogs. They both got over their boots and TJ said that he couldn't go any farther, so Chris went on alone. He said the dogs were treed up another big oak and he found the coon pretty quick. We went back to the trucks and called it a night.

I have hunted many nights with every hound but Chief on the top side of Smokes pedigree. The bottom side, I hunted with Muggins & Cricket a couple times. They were coon treers. Was with Joe every time he was turnt loose. I have never owned a hound before or after as tuff as Joe. Joe had no quit, you didn't have to lay him up to heal. He never refused to go hunting. Joe and the mother to Hemi went over 7 miles on a moonlight January night to strike & tree a coon. The top side of the pedigree is loaded with top hounds & known top reproducers. I don't know about Smoke but Mailes Bob was a super track dog. Good luck with getting some top females crossed up on Smoke.

Natural Blue Bell - my first bluetick, I believe she is 7 generations back on Smoke.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out for a run tonight. Went down the river about a mile and cast her into a nice hardwood swamp. She went in about 100 yards and struck a cold track and went to work moving it on down the river. She bumped a tree about 250 yards in and moved on. She was trailing along close to the river. This always bothers me when the river is up like it is now. There is some pretty high bluffs along the river in places and if a dog went over that bluff he probably wouldn't make it because of the under current, but she soon left the river back into the deeper swamp. She trailed on in a ways and locked up and I knew she was there to stay this time. I walked in to her and she was treed on a vine going up into a big hardwood that had a lot of vines in it. I shined for a while before I caught a glimpse of his eye. I walked in and shook a vine and he looked at me with both eyes, up about 3/4 of the way up in a bunch of vines. We left him to run again and moved on down the swamp. I cast Sheba off an old woods road and she went in aways and struck another cold track. She worked it on in to about 350 yards and circled and started moving back up the swamp. The track was just to cold and finally played out. I called her in and we called it a night.

Thanks Dennis for giving me some history on the background of some of the dogs in Smoke's pedigree and the picture. If that is you in that picture, it was taken a couple of days ago. Dennis I really like the Smoke dog. He is a real nice hound. I don't really know yet How he will reproduce. He has a great pedigree. and he was pretty much a natural. He has only been bred to a couple of females. Jeremy has a young pup out of Smoke and his Skeeter female that he is really liking. and Jeremy said that there were some more in that litter that were doing good. I don't have anything out of him here, but I will before long. Dennis if you have a picture of the rattler dog I sure would like to see it. Take Care.

I'll get a picture of Rattler. 40 years back I was a little thinner and lots more hair.

Mr. Jack and Dennis

Mr. Jack,

I sure like reading about your hunts. I would guess Smoke will reproduce pretty darn good with just about anything. He sounds like a good one. Hope we can catch up at a hunt pretty soon.

Dennis,

You look like a kid in that photo. The time really seems to pass quicker as you get a little older. Hope to see you soon.

Scott

Ol' Rattler

Dennis-

That is a good looking bluetick. Not going to make it down to the reunion this year. Hoping to make it to the Dave Dean hunt next. Maybe we will see you there.

Take Care,
Scott

Good hunt with Friends

Earl and Matt Guthrie from Baxterville, Ms. came over to hunt tonight. Earl brought along his Easy female. I believe he told me she was sired by the Cache dog of Matt Turners.
She is really doing good to be 9 months old. She is a real pretty female too. I told Earl that we would hunt close to some feeders tonight to get his little female on some good hot coons. We made our first cast and they went in and struck a hot track, moved it on in another 75 yards and locked up treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up a hugh turkey pine. We found the coon pretty quick and left it to run again. We moved on down the swamp and cast the dogs again. They struck another hot track and treed. They were treed up a big oak and again we found the coon pretty quick. We let the dogs have it. We moved on down the swamp and cast again. They struck a cold track this time and worked it on down the swamp aways and treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up another oak in some pretty thick stuff with a lot of vines and broke over trees. We shined for a while, but I believe they just missed this one. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and called it a night.

Thanks for the picture Dennis, That's a good picture of Cory and Rattler.

Rattler is showing some age but has sired some nice hounds. Smoke will do the same if given a chance. Sounds like those fellas were packing coon treers.

I watched basketball and teased the granddaughters until a little after 9. Loaded Luke & Fancy and headed out. Luke treed 2 trees with coon. Fancy didn't want to go very far so I sent Luke and they treed one together. I got in the house at 12:01.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run tonight. Dropped her off on a branch that runs through the swamp toward the river. She struck a bad track at 275 yards and worked it on in a little over 400 yards and locked up treed. I drove to within about 75 yards of her and walked on in She was treed in the middle of the slough. I found the coon pretty quick and petted her up some and we left him to run again. We moved on down toward the river and cast her up a slough. She struck another cold track at 246 yards. She had crossed the slough and moved on in to a little over 600 yards and made a circle and came back toward the river, at about 300 yards she locked up treed. I walked in to her She was treed up a medium sized hardwood tree that leaned over into a bigger tree and they both leaned over into a much bigger tree. It looked like some work that had probably been done by Hurricane Katrina several years ago.
As cold as the track was I didn't know wheather she had him or not, but she has always been pretty accurate, even on these cold tracks. With all the trees togeather It made shinning the tree pretty hard and I had forgotten my squaller. I probably walked around the tree shinning for about 15 minutes before he looked at me from in a fork about 3/4 up in the big tree. I decided to let Sheba have this one. All I could see was his eyes in the fork. I shot a couple of times and it looked like he lowered his head and I couldn't see anything. I shot the fork a couple more times and nothing. I walked around the tree and the other tree was blocking me from seeing that spot on the other side. I walked around the tree several times looking from different angles and he finally looked at me again. I shot again and he lowered his head again. I shot again and he looked again. I shot again and he rolled out. I let Sheba mouth it for a little bit and I got the coon and we made our way back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Jeremy called me as I was coming out of the woods tonight
He and Justin had been hunting tonight up at Justin's place. Justin has some good hunting up there. Jeremy was hunting his Pete dog and Justin was hunting his Ellie female. Jeremy said that they had a good hunt.

Sheba 11

I went out to feed Sheba the next morning after our last hunt and she was carrying her left back leg. I went in and checked it out and she had a bad cut between her little toe and the next one. This is in a bad spot so I will have to lay her up until it heals.
