Nice thread you all have going.. I just read the WHOLE thing and now my brain is exploding.. I already had to get up and get a snack from my stomach growling...LOL...
NOW, some of you on here know I'm a CONFUSED Greek Southern Yankee. My mum is 100% Greek and the only one in her family borne in the USA. My dad on the other hand was a MD chap... grew up on the Chesapeake Bay... on Deal Island then the Bal'more area. His dad had an Oyster Co. and that branch of the family is Robt E Lee and Martha Custis so... that makes me a half Southerner Half Greek who grew up in Boston MA! My pronunciation of all sorts of thigs is ODD to say the least. AS FOR PECAN... everyone in my family says it different. Wish my dad were alive so I could hear him say it... I FORGET how HE said it... I say " Puh Cahn" and man do I LOVE Pecan Pie... although real Key Lime Pie is my favorite... and I make a MEAN one Our accent is so weird in my family... that when my son Richard was first in school the kids asked him... WHAT COUNTRY he was from! LOL...
I do NOT like most Greek food. I despise Okra, Hate Hominy, don't care for grits and despise sourkraut, I wont eat most greens...LOL... and hate venison steak(loved it in stew)... I have TRIED nearly every food possible since my dad was so adventurous...
Speaking of my dad... he grew up with former slave family working for his family... and he could speak some interesting dialects. He also had a LOVE for old black music and took us to visit some great Shanytown families when we would drive South to the FL Keys for the summers, just to sing and visit and dance... I was VERY little but the memories are wonderful. I'm sure HE ate some good meals I would have refused back then. NOW I'd TRY them!
I do not speak Greek although I CAN say "Christ has Risen".
I HATE WINTER... and our zipcode for mail is 02093 but for weather I punch in 02070 since we're on the "country" LMBO end of Wrentham, MA.... and the weather IS different.... They may NOT have a snow day... but the bus wont be able to go down OUR road! LOL...
When I would go to FL for the summer I would INSTANTLY get a Southern accent... it would take a month or so to fade. If I speak to a Southern friend on the phone I have an accent when I hang up...LOL My hearing stinks so Southerners have to speak slowly for me... and I talk a mile a minute. I cannot follow a THING an irishman says....
This thread has been a delight. For a Southern NorthernGreek person...who loves coonhounds and coon hunting... I am Surely living in the wrong place! We DO have plenty of coons...but no land. TONS of Possums and skunks, yotes and fishers and a few scraggly deer... So at least I FEEL a bit of nature around me....
AS for Sweet tea... haven't had any in yrs. I take Ritalin for my brain injury and caffiene makes me jittery and gives me a weaker bladder than Cleos! I do have one cup of instant FOLGERS only coffee in the am with 1/2 and 1/2 no sugar. As a special treat on occasion I have hot mint tea With sugar...YUM! AND we have a neighbor who makes some kind of liquor thing with tea and honey and some spices(different every time)... that is to die for but only a thimble full... or it MAY make me die! LOL....
This is a very fun thread... and I will now look at it daily so I NEVER EVER have t read 57 pages at once again.
Have a Great day! Heather
Well Miss Heather...all I can say is 'I'll be darned" You are a honey of a honey!
