Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a short run the other night. She did a good job on one. We have got more water in the swamps now than I think I have seen in a long time, and I don't mean flood waters. Its just mud and water just sitting there and its not getting a chance to dry up any. Everytime I think its going to dry up some, it starts back raining. even in the flat woods the water and mud is just sitting there from ankle to knee deep. Oh well it will dry up after while. Good hunting.

Gin

Took Gin out for a run tonight, She did a quick job on one and sounded good. I checked my Garmin and went to her. She was treed in some 20 year old planted pines and it had never been thinned. I started to squall and shine the tree, but I couldn't see the tree for other trees and vines. After I had been there a few minutes I noticed my Garmin was missing, so I started looking for it. I looked for it for a while and couldn't find it, so I came back to the house and put Gin up and my neighbor rode back with me to help me hunt for my Garmin, I finally found it about 20 feet from the tree where I had been shinning the tree. We called it a night.

Gin

Took Gin out again last night for a short hunt, cast her off an ole woods road. She went in about 150 yrds and struck a working track, worked it in another 500 yrds and was crossing a black top highway and I picked her up. This was the same highway that her mom was killed on. We went to the river and cast her in on a slough. She went in a ways and struck a pretty good track and moved it on in about 300 yrds and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a medium sized oak that was loaded with vines from about half way up. I walked around it. there was a couple of openings in the trees around it that I could see. At one of these the coon looked at me, but it was so thick in there that I never saw him again. I shook some of the vines, but he never looked again. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a short round tonight. Turned her off an ole woods road into a bottom that had a lot of water in it. I knew that there would be a good bit of water in there, but I never thought that there would be that much in there until I had to go to her. She struck a working track in about 100 yrds. I thought she was having a rough time with the track, but I seen later that a lot of the time she was swimming. She worked it on in another 200 yrds and locked up treed. I made my way in to her and she was treed up a hardwood. There were 3 trees that forked right at the ground and grew up close togeather. The coon was sitting right in the top of the one she was treed up. I let her have this one as she hadn't had one in a while. We went back to the truck and called it a night.

Hounds

Mr. Jack glad to see you are getting out hunting some. Belle is in heat and Creek is still hanging down pretty good from coming off of the pups so I am on the bench for awhile. The Tramp and Creek pups are great! They will get out and explore and you have to keep an eye on them. All 9 are the nicest looking pups I think we have had here. They will be getting ready to go next week to their new homes.

Take Care,
Scott

Gin

Took Gin out again tonight for a run and that she did. Turned her off an ole woods road into an oak flat, she went in and struck a cold track and started working it. She kept it moving and probably went 800 yrds or so. I went around on an ole back road through the woods to get closer to her. She had done got into some rough country and a lot of water. I got to within about 175 yrds of her and I decided I had better get her out of there, so I called her in and we headed to the river. I turned her up an ole slough and she hit a hot track and jammed a tree right quick. I found the coon pretty quick and knocked it out to her, as it had been a while since she had one. We loaded up and called it a night.

Scott, the water is beginning to dry up some around here and these 80 degree days and 50 degree nights kind of stirs the hunting blood. Glad everything is going good for you and your hounds. I guess Jeremy and I will head to the quarter finals next weekend with Shadow. Take Care.

"Nat"

Took Nat out to a feeder tonight. This was her 1st time to the woods. She took a track off the feeder and moved it in 150 yrds. She didn't tree, but I was watching her on the Garmin and she was checking the trees. I walked in towards her a ways and met her coming back. When she met me she didn't stop. She turned and headed out another direction and circled back toward the spot where she was checking the trees. She didn't stop, but kept on hunting. She kept busy at a little over 100 yrds and circled in on another slough and moved on around it and toward another woods road. She went in close to another road, and I moved around and picked her up. Not a real exciting night, but I liked the way she stayed busy and kept hunting. We will probably try it again tomorrow night. We called it a night.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run last night. Turned her into an Oak flat. With all the rain we had about a month or so ago, it is really dry here now, but according to the weatherman Hurricane Nate is suppose to hit the Gulf coast tonight so that will probably give us plenty of rain or worse. Sheba went in about 400 yrds and struck a fair track and moved it on in another 100 yrds and treed. I went around the back way on the 4-wheeler on a fence row that had been cleaned. I got to within about 50 yrds of her. I had to cross a dummyline and a fence to get to her. She was treed in a pasture that belongs to a friend of mine. There was about 30 big cows standing about 20 yrds from her, just watching her. I,m sure these cows had seen coyotes before, but I guess they had never seen one of them tree, and surely not make the racket that Sheba was making. When I got there the cows left and went on about their feeding. Sheba was treed um a small oak and I found the coon pretty quick and knocked it out to her. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out again tonight for a run. Turned her into an oak flat. She went in about 200 yrds and just fell treed. I went to her and she was treed up a den tree, it had a hole at the bottom and one right at the top. I shined it for a few minutes and If he was there he was on the inside. I loaded her up and went on around an ole woods road. I didn't go too far and she started whinning on the 4-wheeler. I knew she smelled one and I stopped and dropped her off, she ran back down the road about 20 yards and struck a hot track. ran it in about 50 yrds and locked up treed. I went to her and she was treed up a small, but tall oak, and with all the leaves on it and the other trees around it and I had forgot and left my squaller at the house, I'm sure she had him,but I could not get him to look. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and moved on down the swamp, and cast her again. She didn't go far and struck another cold track. She moved it on in another 100 yrds and locked up treed. I sure do like to hear her tree. She sounds a lot like her ole grandpa use to sound. Smokey River Jeans blue Tramp. I walked in to her and she was treed up a big oak that was wrapped up with vines. I shined for a while and there was only a couple of spots where I could see just a small part of the tree. I finally made my way around to the back side of it and found a small opening where I could see a small part of the top of the tree and there he sat about half way out on a big limb. I loaded her up and we called it a night. It sure was hot out there tonight. Me and Sheba both were about burnt out. Maybe in two or three weeks we will both be in better shape, and the weather is suppose to cool down some too and that will help out.

Sheba and Sheba 11

Chris and his son Cole came by for a hunt last night. Neither dog was in hunting condition, but I know that it had been over a year since old Sheba had been in the woods. That ole girl really showed out last night. To make a long story short, we made 5 trees last night, ole Sheba got every strike and every 1st tree, but 1, and at 8 years old, she looked and sounded as good as she did when she was 4 years old. Really had a good time last night.

Sheba and Sheba 11 and ohh my goodness Smoke

Chris and his son Cole and Clayton and his girl friend Susann and his son came by to go hunting last night. We loaded up old Sheba and Sheba 11 and headed to the swamp. We turned them into a Oak and Cyprus bottom and they didn't go far before they struck a fair track and moved it on in another 150 yrds and locked up treed. We had to wade the slough as they were treed up a huge Cyprus on the other side. We shinned the tree for a while and Clayton finally found him up close to the top. We left him to run again and made our way back out. and moved on down the swamp and cast again. They struck again pretty quick and treed. We made our way to them again, wading water, but this time they treed up a real small tree and there was no coon there. We made our way back out and moved on around to the river. They went in pretty deep there before they struck. They had a pretty good track for twohundred yrds and locked up treed. We made our way into them and they were treed up a large oak and there was so much under growth and vines in there that you couldn't see nothing. I began to circle the tree way out from it to try and find an opening and finally found an opening that I could see part of the top of the tree and there he sat. Chris came out and was going to shoot this one out and he quit looking. We told clayton to shake a vine and the coon jumped out. He jumped into some briars and some thick stuff and the dogs were running around in there trying to get the coon and we saw the coon several times and then it was just like the coon vanished. we didn't see him anymore and the dogs couldn't pickup his track. Sheba 11 finally picked the track up about 75 yards out. and they were on the move again. They were headed on in on the river when the dogs split up, Sheba 11 went left and ole Sheba went right. Sheba 11 treed and Chris and Clayton went to her. It was about this time that I received a call that made me sick to my stomack. My hunting buddy Jeremy and Mr. Charlie brown from brookhaven had taken Smoke up to the Government woods around Ralieghm Ms. and Smoke had struck a cold track and worked the coon up and moved it out and treed. They started to him and Smoke hushed treeing for a minute, and then he started treeing again. They got to the tree and Smoke wasn't there. They looked up and Smoke was about 50 feet up in the tree. It was a big tree leaning over into another big tree. Jeremy said when they got there Smoke was already over into the other tree. All this was just circumstances I guess, because I had never seen Smoke off the ground at a tree. Charlie climbed the leaning tree to get Smoke and just before he got to him Smoke fell. Jeremy said that he just knew Smoke was dead when he hit the ground broad side. Charlie came back down and they got Smoke on his feet and they said they just knew that he had to be all busted up on the inside, but as of then there was no blood. They made their way out of there with Smoke. And Jeremy took off with Smoke to a 24 hour Vet. place in Hattisburg. Ms. While Jeremy was dealing with Smoke,Chris and Clayton made their way into where Sheba 11 was treed. They only looked a minute and got her and came back out. Old Sheba was still going up the river with her coon. We had to come all the way back out of there and go around on another road and go back in on the river farther down to get closer to her. When we got around there she was treed about 100 yrds in right on the river. Chris went in and got her and said her coon was sitting in a big tree on a big limb right out over the river. He made it back to us and Jeremy called and said he had made it to the vet. and they were checking him out and he would call me back as soon as he could. We made it out of there and made it back to the truck. We had had a great hunt, but now every one was worried about Smoke. About the time we got home Jeremy called and said that they had checked Smoke out and they didn't think he had any broken bones or anything busted on the inside, but we would have to watch him real close for the next few days to be sure. They gave him a couple of shots and some pain medicine. I went and picked him up at Jeremy's this morning and Smoke was able to walk around some, although you could tell he was sure sore. I would like to Thank Mr. Charlie Brown for all of his help. I would also like to thank the lord for his ever extended hand. I asked Susann when we got back to the truck, how she liked coon hunting, and she said she had really enjoyed it and would be back again, She is quite a trupper.

Smoke

Scott, Smoke is doing good now. I kept him loaded up on medicine for a little over a week and just let him rest and get well, except for a short walk each day. I took him out on a short hunt last night. When I got him off the tree, I could tell he was still pretty sore. I will go slow with him for a while and I believe he will be fine.

Thanks

Shadinc for the well wishes on Smoke. I took him out for another short hunt tonight. He struck 2 tracks and moved them out and got treed. He had coons in both trees. I shot the first one out to him and the second one we left to run again. I think in a few more hunts he will be back to his ole self again. I really like the Smoke dog. I'm sure glad we did not lose him.

Took Sheba out for a short round tonight. She struck and treed one pretty quick and we came on back to the house.

Thanks Steve and Tommy for the well wishes on Smoke. We have been hunting him some, and he sure wants to go, but the next day he will be pretty sore. We will just have to work him slow and get him back in shape.

Hello Mr Jack

It’s been a while since I posted on your thread. I’ve been working a lot and laying in the timber. I haven’t even been keeping our threads updated. It’s a lot easier for us to use Facebook for our updates, since the message boards and photos are hard to post.
Glad to see you are still hunting hard.

Sheba 11

I have been down with some kind of Bug for almost 3 weeks. I got to feeling a little better yesterday so I loaded up Sheba last night and we went for a short hunt. She made quick work on two. I looked at both of them. Shot one out. The next one we left to run again. I decided I had better not push it, because I sure didn't want to have a relapse, so we loaded up and called it a night.

I'm feeling

much better Mr. Ed. Thanks, I took Sheba out for a short round tonight. She treed 2 Looked at one couldn't find the other one. She's pretty accurate, but they don't get'em all. I wish I was up there now Mr. Ed, I always have a good time when I come up there. Jeremy has been hunting Smoke some after his fall out of the tree. He says he thinks he is about back to his old self again. Hope your having some good hunts Mr. Ed. Take Care
