Smoke

sure good to get Smoke back home for a few days and to get him out and see him do his thing. I dropped him off an ole woods road into some good woods, but there are some sloughs in there and with all the rain we have had lately, there is a lot of water in there. He went in 400 yrds and struck a cold track, worked it on in another 200 yrds and treed. I thought he was on the other side of a deep slough in there, so I went around on another road and went in there. He was treed about 50 yrds on the opposite side of the slough, so I had to go all the way back out and back around to another road and follow the slough around to get to him. He had been treed for well over an hour and it was pretty warm last night, but he was still treeing good. He was treed up a medium sized oak. I could only see the tree from one side and it was thick in there and a lot of vines going to other trees. He could have been anywhere. Smoke was hot so we decided to call it a night.

BLUE LONE SURVIVOR

Mr. Jack, The smile on Mason's Face says more than I ever could! Thank You So Much for this Pup off Sheba! Blue got settled in here at the River and got his belly full then took a long nap. When he woke up he was ready to rumble so Mason and I carried him up to the Sandbar and let them have some fun. Extremely Smart pup and I think he will make a Dandy. Enjoyed the visit and looking forward to you and I getting together one evening eating us some Fried Catfish and Fresh Veggies from the Garden then cutting them loose. Been to long. Until then, Thanks Again and Take Care.

Gin 11

It was good to get Gin back in the woods the other night. It had been a while. With all the rain and water we have had and the river being up, and my laziness, I haven't been hunting much, but I'm running out of excusses so I guess we'll have to get back in the woods.

Chicken theif

I have killed several chicken snakes through the years stealing eggs out of hen nests and catching bitties, but this is the first rattle snake that I have caught catching bitties. I have game chickens here on the place and this time of year several of the hens have little bitties, and I am always having trouble with mostly possums. And a lot of years I will have trouble with chicken snakes, but I haven't seen any of them this year. The hens lead the little bitties all out through the woods around here scratching for bugs and worms. I heard a couple of the hens cutting up down in the woods behind the barn yesterday and I grabbed my gun and went down there to where I could see them. I figured a Hawk or possum was trying to get the bitties, but I had on my tennis shoes so I didn't go out in the woods and after a little while the hens came on back toward the house and settled down, well this morning I heard them cutting up about the same place down behind the barn, so again I grabbed my gun and went down there. I had my tennis shoes on again, but I went on into the woods this time. I knew something was after them, because the bitties were scattered and hiding. One of the bitties moved across the ground and I saw something move in the leaves. I was expecting a chicken snake, but not a big rattle snake. He had already caught and killed one bittie, but I ended his carrere as a chicken theif.

Snakes

That's a pretty good size one there Mr. Jack. Better put on some High Top Tennis Shoes, lol! Real High! Glad to see you and Ginn getting to make a round. Me and Bo still talking about it, lol! My Back feeling even better today so looking pretty good for getting back after them soon but I've got to get Re Acclimated to the HEAT. Laying around for months Whining about my Back under the AC has about ruined me. But me and Bo going to keep talking it over and I'm sure we will get after them Soon. Take Care and I will talk to you Soon.

Gin and Chickens

Mr. Jack,

That sure is a nice picture of Gin on that tree. She looks a lot like her daddy up on it. We should be seeing a couple of litters out of Tramp II here this summer with hopefully a few more nice females to breed to him. I have not been out for two weeks with the stormy weather and being out of town for work but hope to get back at it this week.
The Belle female I got from Bill is back to getting in condition after her pups so I should be getting her out some. She sure has nice kennel manners and a personality like the other Tramp dogs. You can't beat it. I guess those rattle snakes get hungry too. Glad you fed it some lead. You take care and Happy Fathers Day.

Scott

Mr. Jack, I have got a hold of a female out of Tramp 2 and your Gin female.

I think she's going to make a dandy.

I call her Bugle Ann.

She has one of the smoothest, clearest, best carrying horn bawl mouths I've ever heard on a Blue female.

Smoke and Gin

It sure was good to get Smoke and Gin out for a short run tonight. Man it was hot out there tonight. It was sure hot on me and I know it was hot on the dogs. We were hunting around a big bean field. The first track they got after was a pretty good track and the coon either took to the back water or the river. They made a bad loose in there and Smoke finally come treed in there, but I don't know if it was the same coon or not and we never did find the coon, but it was a bad thick place in there and we never did get to where we could see the tree good. We left out of there and went across the bean field and recast. They went in about 400 yrds and started working a real bad track. They worked it on in next to the river and treed. We walked in to them and they were treed up a big oak and you couldn't see anything. The dogs were so hot that we didn't stay there long and leashed them and headed to the 4-wheelers. The wind off those 4-wheelers sure felt good. We called it a night. I'm already wishing for November with cooler weather and all these leaves gone.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run tonight and that little girl did a great job on an ole running coon. Turned her off an ole woods road into a Cyprus and oak bottom that still has a lot of water in it. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track and started working it, made a circle to the south and turned and started coming back toward me. The track was cold, but she kept it moving. She was moving it down thru a real wet and boggy place between an ole slough and the road that I was on. She moved it on down, moving north now. She moved it on down for about 350 yrds and crossed the slough and started coming back down the other side moving south again and the track was getting better and the pace was picking up. She came back up the slough for about 25o yrds and turned and headed east. She crossed another woods road went on in aways and hit a branch in there and turned north again. She went north up the branch for another 400 yrds and turned west again and crossed the woods road again into some 20 year old planted pines that were thinned this past fall. She went about 100 yrds inro the pines and locked up treed and I already knew where she was without going in there. There is an ole slough out in there with water in it about hip deep and its mighty thick in there with bushes and vines and it may be the same coon every time because I always see the coon, but I've never shot it, and I don't know why, but they always go up the same tree and its just a medium sized tree, but its loaded with vines and the vines go out into other trees and bushes. I made my way in there on the 4-wheeler and just as I pulled up to the side of the slough I caught a glimpse of the coon. Sheba was treed up the same tree. The problem is the tree is on the other side of the slough. I wadded the slough which was well over my boots. I shook some vines in there to see if I could see the coon again, but I never could find him. I petted up Sheba and headed back across the slough. another thing I noticed about this slough, it must be spring fed for the water in there is christal clear. When we got back out of the slough I looked back and there the coon was. We will have him to run again. we called it a night. I took my camera with me to take some pictures, but I had forgot to put the chip in it.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a run tonight. She made quick work on one and I knocked it out to her. She hadn't had one in a while, luckly it was a big boar coon. I turned her loose again down on the river and she struck a bad track and moved it on down the river and it was just too bad for her and after letting her work it for a while I called her out. As we were coming out I saw an ole sow coon leading two or three little ones. The wind was blowing in the wrong direction for Gin to pick up the scent from the 4-wheeler, so she didn't start a racket. We didn't bother them as they went on with their feeding. We called it a night.

Thanks for the good words on your pup Kevin and I appreciate the picture. She looks a lot like her mom. I wish you the best with her.

Toby, I really enjoyed the visit and hunt. I was going to put the pictures on here, but Photo-bucket wouldn't let me. I'll get strait with them later.

Smoke

Took Smoke out for a run last night. Dropped him off an ole woods road into a swamp that has a lot of water and its rough in there on man and animals. A person cant hardly get through there. The hogs have rooted it so bad and made hog wallows in there. He went in about 100 yrds and struck a bad track and started working it down the slough. I could tell he was having a rough time with it, but I also knew what kind of terrain he was working in. Smoke can usually move a track out like this one and get it going, but where he was at he was having to work for this one. He moved it on down the slough. The coons will usually come out of all that bad stuff after a while, but this one didn't. He stayed in it for about 600 yrds, and I heard Smoke locate and that was the end of the trail. Now I had to do my part and get to him. I went in at three different places off three different woods roads, but each time I came to the deep water and finally made it into the last place and got within about 30 yrds of him before I came to the deep water. He was treed on a small island in there and I could see some of the tree. I blew the squaller and the coon looked at me. I would have like to have knocked it out to him, but he was to far away to try a shot, so I called Smoke to me and we left him to run again. We called it a night.
