Gin 11

Took Gin out tonight for a run before the bad weather sets in later tonight. Turned her into an ole slough bed not far from the river. She went in about 150 yrds and hit a working track. she worked it on in another 200 yrds and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a huge oak, den tree. I looked it over to make sure he was not on the outside and I didn't see anything. I leashed Gin and we walked back toward the 4-wheeler and I cast her again. She went in on another slough and up it. She struck in at a little over 400 yrds. It was a real cold track and she wasn't opening much, but she kept moving opening from time to time. On up the swamp she crossed over to another slough and crossed it and came back down on the other side for a ways and started working south down the river across a cutover into another swamp. I went around on another road and went down the river as far as I could go. I left my 4-wheeler there beside the river and walked down the river a ways. The swamp she was in now is another pretty hardwood swamp. about the time I got into the swamp past the cutover Gin treed. I walked on in to her and she was treed up another big oak, den tree. I looked to be sure he wasn't on the outside and he wasn't. I guess the coons had fed early and went home to get out of the coming bad weather. I leashed up Gin and we did like the coons and headed home before the weather sets in.

Thank you Gary on the best wishes on the Bob and Sheba cross. Should be some good ones there. I like the Bob dog and ole Sheba is bout as good as I ever snapped a leash on. I'm Glad you enjoy the thread.

Mr Jack, I really enjoy reading about your hunts, and about what you have goin on.... I think of you as a very good friend, and I want to publicly say how impressed I am by you, and your decision making. It really shows how much corrector you have, not many guys would breed a Dual Grand female, to a PR dog, that just goes to show, your more interested in bettering the breed and getting what you like. Than whats on paper. Take care buddy, and I wish You and Steve all the best with your cross, great guys!

Breeding, Cold Weather and hunting

Bill, Thank you for those kind words. When I breed one of my females here at home, I know just about what the outcome will be. But when I go to a complete outcross it scares me, but we have to do it some time to keep everything strait. When I make an out cross I try to do all the home work I can. I hunted with the Bob dog several times and found about everything in him that I like in a dog. Although he is young, he hunted good and hard, but he didn't just leave the country. If there is a coon close he will tree him. If he has to go deep he will. He has a good mouth and he moves a track well. As for the Championship papers he will get that if he is taken to town. As far as his back ground, he has top dogs and reproducers as far back as I can trace on top and bottom of his pedigree. As for ole Sheba, you know a little about her as she is a sister to your Dutch dog. Her pedigree goes back through the years to about ever good dog I've ever owned. Again thank you Bill for those kind words, They mean a lot to me.

Scott, I don't know how you guys stand that cold weather. This ole southern boy would probably spend a lot of days siting by the fireplace if it was that cold here. I remember several years ago, it was 7 degrees here and I was on a competition hunt that night. I wasn't hunting one of my dogs, I was hunting the Chief Chief 11 dog that belonged to Mr. Ed Mauney of Ill. Chief treed a coon across a creek and we could see the coon, but the Judge told me that if I couldn't call the dog over to me that I would have to handle him under the tree. Well I knew there was no way I was going to be able to call Chief off that tree. That water sure was cold about the time it got up to my neck. I got him and came back across. We were about a mile from the truck and by the time we got there my clothes were so frozen I could hardly walk. Scott I hope the weather warms up for you soon and you and Ole Tramp and Creek Can get back after those coons.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a round tonight, turned her off an ole woods road into a pretty nice hardwood and pine flat. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a pretty good track, moved it in another 100 yrds and treed. I went in to her and she was treed up a medium sized hardwood tree that went up into a big pine. I could see the hardwood tree pretty good and could see the big pine limbs that extended over into the hardwood tree, so I started shining the pine. I walked all the way around the pine shining with the red light, but he wasn't looking I tried squaling, but still nothing. I had planed on giving Gin this one if I could find it. If they don't look in these big pines, you are not likely to find him. I turned on the bright light and started easing around the tree and using the scope. I finally thought I could see his nose laying flat on a limb. I shot and hit close to him and he looked at me. Gin got her prize. We left there and headed to the river. I turned her into an ole slough bed. She crossed it and headed south. She went in about 400 yrds and hit a cold track, worked it on in to the river and headed down river. It was a bad track and she was only opening every now and then. The guy that owns the property that I was hunting on had come down and we were standing in a deer plot talking and I just could hear Gin when she treed. I told him we needed to get to her as she was about 500 yrds down river and most of it was walking, so we started to her. we left our 4 wheelers beside the river and started walking. We got about half way to her and she hushed. I looked at Garmin and she had left the tree and was working on down the river, but never opened again. I could tell she was still working the track. We walked on into about 150 yrds of her and just stopped and let her work. I guess she had decided she was wrong on the tree and left it. The track was bad before she treed, and it was even colder now.She could smell it, but it was too cold for her to open on. We stood there in an ole woods road and she was working our way and soon she crossed the road we were on about 50 yrds from us. She moved on across the road and was moving on out the other way When I decided to call her in. She came on back and we walked on back to the 4-wheelers and called it a night.

Bill I will Echo Mr. Jack, Thanks for the Kind Words. I was Humbled and Proud that Mr. Jack chose Bob to breed Sheba to. Hoping she has a nice size litter and looking forward to getting the female pup over here for me and Mason to spoil. Bill you should really think about getting you a Male pup from this litter. The good ones don't live forever and you need you a young up and coming Male to Kennel beside Ole Dutch. Not getting in your business just trying to help Mr. Jack sell a pup, lol! Take Care Bill. Mr. Jack, Bob is paid up for Performance Sire for 2017. UKC sent me the DNA KIT last week and BOB has been swabbed and the Kit sent back to UKC. All will be good when the Pups arrive, Thanks! Give me a shout if you want to make a round.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a run tonight, 1st drop she went in about 100 yrds an treed. Never barked on the ground. I walked in to her and she was treed up a large oak with a lot of vines on it. The leaves are back here in south Ms. and the easy to see coons are no more unless he decides to look. I don't know wheather she had him or not, I didn't see him. 2nd drop same thing in the opposite direction, only opened a couple of times on a cold track crossed a slough and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up another hugh oak. I was pretty sure I could see the coons body in a leafy fork, but I didn't have the rifle with me, to use the scope, so I wasn't sure. The third drop she hit a cold track about 300 yrds in and worked it on up an ole slough, The Garmin said she went right up the middle of it. The ole slough is drained down pretty good right now. It only has from ankle to 1 foot of water in it and a little deeper in spots. There are a lot of hugh Cyprus trees out in it. She went up it to a little over 500 yrds and crossed back on my side of the slough. I thought she was going to cross over to another slough, but she got about half way and started trailing back toward me. She got to about 200 yrds from me and treed. I went up an ole 4-wheeler trail and got even with her and walked in to her. She was treed up a smaller tree going up into a hugh Turkey pine. I think the way she kept smellin that vine that the coon had crossed over on it. I could only find one spot that I could see a little of the tree, but he wasn't looking. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Gr.Nite Ch.Gr.Ch."PR"Misty River Blue Sheba

Chris came by for a hunt last night and we loaded up the ole girl. She is 8 years old and hasn't been out of the pen in a few months and still amazes me at how easy she makes it look. We turned her up an oak flat with a slough running through it. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a working track and moved it out of there, move it on in another 400 yrds around the back side of a field. We had moved around to the field to get closer. She was coming up the backside of the field and Chris looked and saw a coon in a tree across the field from where we were sitting and as soon as Sheba got there she let us know that it was the one she was after. We walked over to where she was treed in a large oak tree and petted her up some and took a couple of pictures. and knocked this one out to her. We walked back to the truck and drove around to another field and cast her again. She again struck back in at about 100 yrds, this was another working track. She moved it on up the swamp. Chris said she was headed to another road and we needed to catch her if she crossed the road as he didn't have permission to hunt that property across the road, so we drove around and it looked like she was going to cross, but just before she got there she locked up treed. We walked in to her and she was treed up a hugh oak. I walked in to take another picture, just to realize I had lost my camera back at the first tree. This would have been a good place to take a picture at this large tree. I walked on out on the other side and found the coon laying on a large limb. I walked in and petted Sheba up again. I sure do hate to see these good ones get old. We walked back to the truck and drove back to the first tree and found my camera. We decided to call it a night. Sheba had treed two in less than an hour and we had looked at both of them. Good hunt.

SHEBA

Mr. Jack glad to see yaw got Sheba out for a round and some exercise, I know she enjoyed it. I like a hound that don't seem to " pen stale " and don't need hunted up to be accurate. Put them up a Coon Hound, Always a Coon Hound. Beautiful Ole Girl. I saw that Sheba 11 had you 11 fine pups off Smoke. They sure are pretty and if we didn't have some in Sheba's oven I would get me a female out of those. Going to be a truck load of Coon Tree'ers in that litter. They get a few weeks old I will come over and take a look at them and drink some coffee with you. Until then, Take Care.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a short run tonight. The wind sure was blowing. We are suppose to have some bad weather come in about 2 oclock and the way the wind is blowing, I thought it might come in earlier than that. I started not to go, but decided to go and try to tree one and come on back in. I turned Gin loose and she took off. She hadn't opened on track, but within a minute she was 100 yrds in and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a large oak. I could see it had a hole in it about 1/2 way up and when I got to where I could see the hole good, there sat the coon in the hole. The hole wasn't deep enough to hide him. I petted her up and we loaded up and came on back in.

Steve, sounds like all that hunting your putting on ole Bo has really got him turning the crank. Steve any time you get the chance just come on over. All the pups are still doing fine. I'm going to try to get with you maybe one night next week and see if Gin can keep up with Bo. She's only been hunted with another dog a couple of times. Talk to you soon.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a run tonight. turned her off an ole woods road into an Oak and Cyprus swamp, With a slough that runs through it. She went in on the slough and struck a working track. she moved it across the slough and on through some 20 year old planted pines and came to another woods road that some one hadn't been long went down and this gave her some trouble on the road. I watched her circling and trying to work it out of there. I watched her circle around and hit the road coming toward me, at first I thought she might be coming in as I had moved around to the road that she was on, but the coon had come down the road aways and crossed to thhe other side into some 10 year old pines and it is pretty thick in there. She moved it on in another 150 yrds and locked up treed. I went around to an ole 4-wheeler road and went down it and got to within about 75 yrds of her and made my way on in to her. She was treed up a smaller oak going up into a hugh pine. That had been left along a small branch. I couldn't see much on the side I was on, so I moved around to the back side of the pine to a small opening and hit the squaller and he looked at me up about 3/4 to the top, laying on a big limb. I knocked it out to her and it was a large boar coon. We made our way back to the 4-wheeler and moved on down the swamp. Went on down the slough a ways and cast her again. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track. Worked it on down another 100 yrds and bumped a tree, but never settled. I went on down closer to where she was at and after a little bit she came on out. I went on down the swamp aways and cast her again. She went in on a slough and struck another cold track and worked it back across the road that I was on and on into the pines on the other side. She worked it on in another 250 yrds and I noticed my light was getting dim. I would have liked to have let her work, but I decided I had better get her before my light went out, So I went around and caught her crossing another woods road. We called it a night.

Gin and Bo

Loaded Gin up last night and traveled over to Tylertown and hunted with Mr. Steve Bankston. I think Steve has done told about our hunt, so I'll just say I had a great time as I always do when hunting with Steve. Bo did a great job as he always does every time I have hunted with him. I was proud of Gin just to be able to stay with him. Steve I enjoyed it and I will be back soon, maybe by then you will have that ole back fixed and as good as new. My prayers are with both you and Mrs. Beverly.

Rattler

I was hunting a pup tonight over in front of the house on a feeder. She struck off the feeder and went in about 100 yrds and I thought she had treed and the garmin confirmed it. I started toward her and just before I got to where I could see her she came off the tree to the left and she ran right over the snake. The snake was coiled up and laying flat. I saw the snake raise his taill up as if to start rattling, but it never rattled and lowered its tail back down. When she ran over the Snake I guess she saw it and smelled it. She whirled around and started barking at it and I saw the snake raise it rattlers again. I made Star come to me and tied her back out of the way, but it never moved and never rattled until I shot it, and then it started rattling. We made one more drop down at the river, but she never was able to do anything with it. We called it a night. The snakes are sure starting to move early. I saw 5 or 6 that had been run over on the road Sunday evening while I was driving home. A friend of mine killed a big Rattle Snake down close to where I hunt on the river the other day. Looks like there are going to be a lot of them this year.
