Gin II

Mr. Jack,
Hope things are going well. I sure enjoy reading about your hunts. Tramp would sure be proud of his daughter out there getting it done. I never seen a dog that takes as good of a picture as that little female!
Take Care,
Scott

Gin 11

Scott, I think Gin 11 just likes to show off sometimes. She sure does remind me a lot of her mother. They are both naturals. Gin 11 is only 10 months old and has been treeing coons since I started her about 7 mo. Her mom Gin 1 started the same way. When I got her she turned 1 year old and she had never been fooled with. She started the same way as Gin 11, of coarse then there is Tramp 11, Gin 11's dad that has always made me proud where ever I hunted him. He started the same way that they did. I have been asked several times to put Gin 11 pedigree back up.

BRIGHT MOON

Beautiful Picture of Gin 11's Coon against the Moon! Moon going to be bigger and brighter by the time Mr. Ed and I cut one loose in Illinois. Hope to get a few pictures just like that while I'm up there. Going to miss you and Smoke up there with us helping put those Big Coon up a tree. Take Care and we will get together when I get back and see if we can get our hounds to put the White One up or Ole Rocket.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a short run alone tonight. Turned her into the sunken swamp and she went hunting, a little over 800 yrds before I decided I had better cut her off and went around next to the river and got to within about 75 yrds of her and she was across a wide slough. I called her a couple of times and she hit the water and swam across. We loaded up and was headed back to the truck to come home and I thought of a deer feeder that I hunted off of some before deer season opened, so we turned around and headed for it. We got there and Gin hit a coon off of it and treed it pretty Quick. I got my rifle and walked in to her. She was treed up a large cedar tree with a big pine beside it. Usually in a pine or cedar you will find the coon sitting right in the top, but I could see the top of both trees pretty good, but he wasn't in the top, of coarse there were plenty other places for him to be, and there is always the chance that she could have missed him. I shined there for a while and squalled some, but never got a glimpse of him, so I petted Gin up some and we walked back to the 4-wheeler. As I was turning to leave I took one more look at the cedar tree and there he sat about half way up looking at me with both eyes. I reached back and patted Gin on the head again and told her we would get him next time. We called it a night.

Mr.Jack

Mr.Jack
I haven't got the chance to touch base with you on the pup I got from you a few weeks ago ( CAP. ) I will have to say he is doing way better than I expected. I have tried my best to put him in some places where the coons are pretty thick. I have managed to hunt him in just about every terrain you can think of in the short period of time I have had him. I have hunted him 14 times and looked at 6 coons that he treed alone. I've took him 4 times with Jeremy and his young female and he doesn't pay any attention to another dog. Hunts just as good alone as he does with company. Very tree minded and a Great Mouth. We still got a long way to go but I couldn't be more pleased or ask much more from a 11 month old pup. Look forward to coming to visit soon.

Thanks again

Pictures

Bill, here are the pictures that you wanted to see.

Layne, thank you for the feed back on Cap. Looks like he is coming along great for you. I hope he makes you a great one. Keep me posted on him.

Talked to Jeremy tonight and he won his cast in the Slam hunt at the Winter Classic with Shadow, but did not have enough points to get in the money.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba out for a run last night, dropped her off an ole woods road into an oak and Cyprus swam with a lot of water in it. She hit a real cold track at about 100 yrds and started working it. She worked it down the swamp about 300 yrds and treed. She was in there next to another woods road and I road to within a few feet of her and walked on in. She was treed up a large oak. I shined it, but I think she just did the best she could with the track she had. The tree was slick. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and moved on around to the sunken swamp. I looked at my watch and it was about 2:30. We had got a late start tonight. I turned her into the swamp and she went in about 200 yrds and hit another cold track and started working it. She trailed on in another 500 yrds and treed. I went around on another road and got within 250 yrds of her and walked on in to her. She was treed up a turkey pine. I shined for a while, but if he was there he wasn't looking. It was after 4 oclock so we decided to call it a night.

Lake sure was a good looking rascal. Out of all the dogs you have or had, which would you call the best or your favorite? What was it about that particular dog that set it apart?

Lake

Tommy, Lake was a good hound. He was as good as I ever hunted. Lake's only problem was that he was born at the wrong time. In Lakes younger years when I should have really been pushing him. I had ole Tramp here and he was going strong and I also had Doll 11 here, Lake's older sister and I have always loved to hunt the females and I was pushing her. Lakes reproduction was never realized because Tramp was here and most of the females and especially the better ones went to him, because he was a proven reproducer. I have had two females here, both were out of Lake, They were the Doll 1V and the Sheba female and they were both good ones.

Tommy, In answer to your question of which dog was my favorite. I have been asked that question many times thru the years. The truth is, I never had a favorite. and as I sit here tonight thinking back over each one. The answer is still the same. They all did their part in making my life more injoyable. Thank you Mr. Tommy for your comment on lake and for your question.

Lake

I owned three hounds out of Lake. They were three of the most accurate dogs I've ever owned. I can honestly say that Lake is the reason that I love coon hunting, and I have a soft spot for that old dog.

Sheba 11

A vetenary friend of mine talked to me the other day and told me since deer season was over he wanted me to come down to his place and get rid of some of his coons, so I loaded Sheba up tonight. I went kind of late to let the traffic die down as he lives pretty close to a high way. I didn't really know remember much about the place. I use to hunt in there probably 30 years ago and a lot changes in that length of time I dropped her off an ole woods road towards Greens Creek. She went in almost to the creek, went down it a ways and made a circle and came back. I loaded her up and went on down farther and cast her on the other side of the road away from the creek. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track, worked it a little in there and got it lined out and headed toward the river, which was probably about a mile away. I didn't know where all the roads were so I started looking for a way to keep me within hearing of her. She had it running now and was sounding good. I followed an ole woods road that went across a field and thru a section of woods into another field. When I got to the field, it was probably at least a 75 acre field and she was in the woods on the other side, close to 300 yrds away, I could hear her good and I just sat there and listened to her work. About the time she got to the corner of the field she gave that long dying bawl of hers and I knew that was the end of the trail. I followed a fire lane around to another corner of the field and turned and went down the other side to the corner of the field where she was treed. She was treed probably 75 yrds out in the woods from the fire lane. I got my rifle and walked in to her. She was treed up a big oak. I took a couple pictures and started looking for the coon. It was pretty thick in there and I'm pretty sure it had a hole in the tree. I looked for a couple of minutes and didn't see anything, but when I hit the squaller he looked at me from up toward the top. I knocked him out and Sheba finished him. We had had a good hunt, so much to Sheba's disappointment we called it a night.

Codykennels, Thank you for the info on the hounds out of Lake and the kind words about him. Lake was a good hound and like you said about the ones out of him. He was the most accurate tree dog that I have ever hunted. The Sheba female in the picture above is out of a daughter to Lake. Thank you for posting, come back anytime.

Squirrel Hunt

The top picture above is Windy doing what she loves to do. The bottom picture is my son Wade and Windy with Eight squirrels that we got in about a 2 hour hunt this evening. My next door neighbor went along with us and we really had a good time. I don't never carry a gun if we have 2 or more shooters. I just handle Windy and shake vines. I let the other guys do the shooting, but now I really give them a hard time when they miss. I think they shot about a box and a half of shells getting those 8 squirrels. I really gave those guys a ragging. That's the good thing about squirrel hunting with a dog. You can laugh and talk and as long as everyone is safe with their guns the more the better. It was real cloudy this evening and the squirrels were not moving like I figured they would, but we will be back after them in the morning.
