I was told once by the Fireball man, breed a thoroughbred stud to a Jenny you'll end up with a mule. 😂

Preston, are you saying that you need to breed a thoroughbred stud to a thoroughbred mare? Why do some people breed a throughbred stud to a guarterhorse mare? Then AQHA registers the foal as "appendix bred".

Thats a cross breed i think richard...thats why it works...imo

I agree with both theories....but i think the problem with some well known breeders is that they put to much weight/credit on the stud...You cant breed a thoroughbred stud to shetland pony and get a world champion dressage horse..

Dont overlook what the mare brings to the table...she can make a lesser stud a great reproducer...JMO

I am not sure how to define lessor in a female....one that has never been hunted ?? One that has been messed up by a human ??? How do you know she is lessor....I guess you have to know her genetics...ability etc..for me o would say that the female is a major contributor....each and everytime...good or bad..i have owned females that it didnt matter what you bred her to and she reproduce...not sure i have ever seen a male like that...not trying to talk down about anyones dog or single out anyone or dog...but look at BTK...his first go around as a stud dog numbers are not impressive at all...Now look at his results as of late...by selective breeding and breeding to better females it is much more impressive this time around...major difference..thats just one example...
