The redbones I had were from a line of dogs that were just not what I would call "people dogs." They could care less about me or anything I did. They would listen and trained up pretty good, but they were not interested in being petted or getting a treat, all they wanted to do was go hunting and when I first got them started they didn't much care what it was they ran. In fact, it is fair to say they would run anything that didn't smell like dirt until I got them semi under control. There was a point in time when I was scared to hunt them near train tracks...I was worried if a train came by they would run that!!!!
Tree as many coons as a lab???? I had one that gave many a serious case of hurt feelings to at least three big name walker men back in the day.
That said, I would give anything to have her back, but I am very happy with the three dogs I have now because they are all three people dogs...they live to have me walk down to the kennel and pet them. The walker, I never seen a dog as happy to see me in my life...he will seriously turn his nose to a steak to get petted. The real benefit, it didn't take much at all to get him broke, and as much as I carry on about walkers slick treeing...on my mothers grave, he'll be 2 in a month and a half and has yet to show me an empty tree.
