Thanks George

The pups are some of the best acting pups I have raised. I wish I would have got one out of your litter as they are also bred just like I like. I like the way your female is bred as good as I do the way Lou is bred. Good Luck with them my Friend. Dave

We started to him and I looked up before I got there and there they were, three ringtails looking down at me. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper! That was pure natural ability. I had only turned two coon loose to him and one he never even saw and the second one he treed. This was all on his own. I've had dogs do this before but mostly they were fooled with much more than Satch. I'm pumped!!

It sounds like Satch is well on his way. Good luck in the future with him.

Satch

Dave,
Thanks, He's doing very well for the limited time I have been able to get him to the woods. For a working man, darkness comes too late. On a different note, That is one of the most uniform litters I've seen that you have out of Lou. VERY nice pups. I'll be following those little rascals' progress. Good luck with them.

George/Gary
I watched Satch last night when he struck. Head up, casting back and forth letting the wind help him. He didn't go far but it was impressive to watch and what a locate. A kid would have been able to call that one. He has a very nice "hound" mouth that carries and a great disposition. It sounds like, from hearing about the rest of the litter, this is pretty much the norm. Good luck to you both and your pups, it's gonna' be a fun year.

Update

Took Satch and Tim's old dog Hank out again last night. Hank blew in there at about 1000 yards and over the ridge where whe couldn't get any signal on him. Satch went a couple hunderd yards and came back. We finally decided to drive to the top and head out the ridge. Once we got to the top, Hank was showing treed. We headed out the ridge, he was still over 900 yards. Luck would have it, we walked Satch right in on a couple coon that had been feeding on some berries. He struck and didn't go far till he located and treed. We hadn't heard Hank but we saw him coming in after Satch treed. Hank sat down on a tree about 20 feet away from Satch and they both treed split. Satch wouldn't give his tree up and he held the pressure. Both ended up having a coon. Needless to say, I'm totally impressed with Satch at such a young age and doing what he's doing. It's in the blood, no doubt.

Satch

It is good to see young hounds start showing natural ability. A person who likes to hunt with hounds can't help but get fired up when his or her young hound starts to show promise. It sounds as though all that Satch needs is some wood time to get the experience he needs to finish into a good cooner. Several of his littermates doing the same thing. Sport's second cross ( Sport x Cindy ) is younger but some of those are showing great promise as well. I own a female out of that cross and I am well pleased with her so far. We let Sport go because we had made two crosses on him. You can't keep them all but he has without a doubt shown he can reproduce when bred to the right female.

Natural Ability

Yep, natural ability is the key word. When a young dog has no idea why he/she are out there and do the things I've seen, then there is no other way to describe it. I'd say this will be a succesful cross. Did Sport ever get titled, not that it makes a difference, just wondering. I know he had a 1st and 6th place win. Might have held on to him just a little longer had someone known the future, but that's one thing none of us can tell. Later.... Ron

Sport

I don't know if Sport was entered in any hunts after Dale sold him. If not, hopefully he will be. He is very capable of making Grand Night Champion. He has all the tools. Dale likes a closer hunting dog. Sport will get you a coon treed some where. Sometimes he would tree close but many nights he would take you on a hike.

Lizzy ( blaze X izzy

This little female is the best pup I have ever had to work with, she is not afraid of anything! She will tree on scent like she is looking at a coon, she is gonna be loud bawl on the ground & chop on tree. She seems to have a good bit of grit in her but not in a bad way, the only thing I'm having trouble with her is she hates to be on a leash!! But that will come she is still young maybe just a little more stubborn than I'm use to. Lol I'll get George to put a lil video on here

Fine looking hound George

Even better looking up on the tree. I am more than happy with Satch. The last 4 times out we have seen 20 coon. We didn't tree that many, but have seen 20 as a total. The first tree that Satch treed on had 3 kitten coon, the 2nd tree he split and had one, the third tree he treed with Tim's Hank dog and they had one and last night they both treed but Hank pulled off and was working one out into the field and Satch stayed. There were 3 up that tree. Satch is doing extremely well to say the least. At 9 months he doesn't go hunting very well, maybe 200 yards and then back, and he still is getting sick in the box. Not so much throwing up sick, but water's at the mouth until he's saturated, LOL. He is starting to jump into the box, he had been a little afraid at first. So I guess he has a lot of puppy in him until he smells a coon and then it's all business. George, if you like Sarge as much as I like Satch, I'd say you're a happy man! I'd say this was a very good cross from what I've heard. Good luck and stay in touch.

Mines about the same on the hunting the few times he's been out but I'm not to much worried that it won't come later as mommy and daddy along with all the hounds behind them r hard goin dogs. Keep us posted on his progress as we always like reading about a good young dog coming on.

Okay George, will do. I know the hunting will come. I've been used to hard hunting dogs for years, don't know how I'd act if one wouldn't get in there and get it done. In my upper years now I could use one that checked in now and again but I'd prolly be mad if he did and someone else's dog got hooked in there deep while mine was checking in. Kind of a double edged sword! LOL.

1:00am

And I just got in from another round with Satch. Well, the rascal did it again. First of all Tim's Hank treed one and Satch wouldn't have much to do with it. He treed a little with Hank but not like he should. Next drop, Hank struck and Satch pulled in with him and started working. Hank pulled out the ridge and Satch lagged behind and stuck a tree. He started warming it up so I went to him while Tim went after Hank, he was getting close to the main road. When I got to Satch, he had a coon and was proud as a peacock! He's doing better each night. I think I have a keeper.

LOL! Yep George, he's doing very well. My friend, Tim, has three feeders out, that helps! That's why we're seeing so many coon. Now, that being said, Satch has treed three out of the last five times without feeders. We just free cast them and he did it on his own. He pays very little attention to another dog. Tim originally put the feeders out to start his pup out of Hillbilly Dutch and Satch but I really don't think Satch needs them now so he's going to be free cast from here on. I'm not a fan of feeders other than for maybe starting a pup. I've drawn out with guys that relied on feeders in a night hunt. It's hard to beat someone on their own feeders, but I've done it. If you have a dog that's not been hunted on feeders and the coon aren't moving well, that's where you got em! But to each their own. But back to Satch, I'm seeing some very special things out of him. Now, I've hunted long enough to know things can and probably will change but I'm ready for that. As for now, I'm just soaking it up and enjoying watching this young hound do his thing. I'll try to get some pics of him later. Meanwhile, you may want to try to get Sport back! LOL!

Update/Satch

Took Satch out with my good friend Tim's dog, Hank this past Friday night. We cast them down in the hollow first and right away Hank went up the hollow to the left and Satch went on to the bottom and opened. Hank opened and was working a track toward the top. Satch opened on the edge of a big field and made about a 150 yard circle. I thought he may have been running a deer but found out he was running downwind from some coon already in the tree. He ended up on an apple tree on the edge of that field. When we arrived at the tree he was barking up that apple tree but would drop off and run in a small circle winding and barking. The apple tree was empty but he was treeing good enough to make us look. Anyhow, he kept dropping off and drifting a small circle with his head up winding. Tim happened to look up and on a limb above us was 4 kitten coon on the end of an oak limb. He didn't have the right tree but he was dang close and I figure those coon were feeding on the apples. We just pulled him off and headed up the ridge to Hank, who was treed by this time. Hank had 3 more young ones up a maple. The coon population in the area's we've been hunting is really up this year; best I've seen it sense the early 90's.

Took Satch out by himself last night, just walked him up the hollow from my house. I have a couple hundred acres I can hunt there. He struck fairly quick and worked a track for better part of 40 minutes, located a few times but wouldn't stay. He finally came close and I caught him. He was doing a lot of winding, which he does constantly. We went a little further and then circled around the other side of the hollow, he struck one more track but it was pretty rough. It was getting late and I caught him up and came home, had to work early. He's making mistakes but he's doing pretty dang good for 9 months. Hope everyone else is enjoying their pup from this cross.

Sarge

Made 3 drops with Sarge last night byhiself. He acted like the hunting switch flipped. All 3 drops he fired n there. Two of the three he got struck. First one he worked a track off ridge toward the holler n an angle tapped 5 trees then treed but I could tell he wasn't sure got to him he was on a fallen tree that went off top of rock cliff I got him went back to 4 wheeler moved to another ridge and cut him again. Wasn't long he struck with a locate and treed a min. Then came off trailed it down off ridge few hundred yrds tapped another tree moved about 50 yrds and Located a couple good times and rolled it over I knew he thought he had it. I had to drive opposite direction leaving him to circle below knowing he could hear the 4 wheeler he never missed a beat got to him about 15 mins later he never met me off tree just kept clicking. I could only shine one spot and never saw coon. Don't know if he had it or not but he convinced me that he did. I was impressed to say the least for a 9 mo old pup.

Outstanding George

Sounds like Sarge is going to be the real deal. Also, sounds like you better keep that 4-wheeler handy, you'll probably be needing it to keep up with him, LOL! That's a lot of natural ability right there. I took Satch out night before last by himself. I walked him quite a ways and he finally struck one. Worked it around some downed timber and then got it straightened out and headed up over the hill. He couldn't do much with it and came in about 10 minutes later. We hunted on back around to the truck and never struck anything else. He is getting out between 100 & 200 yards now but not too often. Going again tonight. Good luck with Sarge, keep us posted.
