Are you the man in PA that got the male pup out of Guage that was of the lighter ticking as a pup? I liked that pup! I cant remember your name but Dan told me at one time. Call me sometime and we will talk about the ones we both have. Thanks Ron Jackson 330-429-0146

Panic's benching progress

Well,he certainly isn't a natural to want to be benched but he's coming along ok! Might help alot if I knew what I was doing but so far not to bad. Been getting him to stay as I move around him and still some work to do there for sure. I'm gonna see how this week goes when I work him on the bench and see if it's worth my time to head over to Ashland Spring hunt to show him. He's certainly not ready for a night hunt yet! Here's a pic from this morning. Seems a bit nervous still but getting better with more time spent! What ya think, waist of time and stay home or he has a chance to succeed!! He does well if I don't move away from him! Hard to take your own pic without doing so!!LOL!! Later,Danny G.

Enjoyed reading your training on pups do you think theres adifference in anet or a rag on a pole. And do you think a tetherd coon is better than a coon just turned loose

Sully! Great thoughts!!

Here's what I believe is best for what I do and you can take it from there. When it comes to the net,I believe it is hard for pups to pic out when you start laying drags when you hang it from a tree in the spring time. You put than net up the right branchy tree and look up in the sky at the net and see what you see! It blends in as black and white and is hard for a pup to just pick right out. In the summer months when the leaves are on,one can hide it where the only the pups are treeing has to be treeing or locating by scent alone. As far as a rag on a pole, might be ok but a net spray good with coon scent and draggin on the ground will put alot better scent on the ground for a pup to smell!! JMO of course. As far as a teathered coon to start with, what better way is there to control and have a 100% positive outcome for the pup or pups being trained. When you just cut a coon loose, you have no control and believe me,I have done a bit of it myself over the years and for the most part, bad outcomes more than not with some nightmare endings!! When ever one can control the outcome at the end, success comes much easier more times than not! Thus, the net works for me and some may disagree but to each thier own!! Good huntin,Danny G.

Speck

Speck was laid up at the beginning of January just before 8 months old. Got her out finally last night 14th of March. Now just 10 months old. 4 tracks 4 trees last tree was empty but the others were great! Short video of the first tree. I will add that she has only been with another dog 2 times, been in the woods a total of 13 or 14 times.

Murph and Ron

Thanks for the post and updates. Nice pic and video!I got out with my buddy Bill tonite. We loaded up Panic and hunted him by hisself and as Ron stated,Panic was just 7 months old before weather got bad and I put him up for the winter till tonite. These pups turned 10 months old on the 6th of this month. Well,Bill and I cut Panic loose,he made a quick circle around us and started to get in the timber as I like. Within 6 to 8 minutes of time gone by,Panic located up,went to treein and was 409 yards from where we cut him. We started walkin to him and I'm here to say,he was soundin good and poundin that tree the whole way into him. He's a very hard stylish tree dog. I know I was impressed and I believe Bill was also! He never opened up at all on the ground which has been his whole for me so far at his young age. He will open sometimes, but not enough. Treeing, hunting and accuracy is not a problem for him and never has been but if he continues to be tight on the ground, not sure he will have a home here in the future. Gonna give him some time to change!Anyways,he had 2 lookin down, petted him up a bit and we headed back to the truck and went back to Bill's to get Hank. Hank is out of Joe and Alice cross. We cut Hank a few times and as he always does, got wooded up on 2 dens and 1 tree we saw the coon and we then called it a night. Going to get Panic back on the bench thru the week and hopefully make it to Ashland and I might even handle Hank for Bill on Friday night if I don't have to go to the shop on Saturday morn, been real busy! Thanks to all that have and hunt Alice offspring,Danny G.

Troop

Troop is in PA and has settled in for Jake. He's hunted him for Trevor and he is picking him up this weekend. Jake told me Troop has run a deer, then recut him and he ran a good track and came treed on a big hemlock and blew the top out of that tree. Unfortunately,Troop has only been to the timber 6 or 7 times at 10 months old. Hopefully when he gets to Trevors that changes alot. Troop has the tools to be a nice hound, the reason I sold him,no time to hunt him and Panic both and I still want to be able to hunt Swimmer some as spring moves forward. Swim is at Nick Mare's place,he owns half interest in him but I would still like to hunt him some this spring. Panic got to nervous at Ashland so I ended up not putting him in the show. After a while when talking to some friends in the building,he got to being his self and was wired up 440 and wanted everyone to pay attention to him which was a good thing. Gonna put him in the timber tonite and just continue to hunt him. For the ones that have called and have ?'s about training with the net,I'll get in touch with you guys this weekend!!Later,Danny G.
