Brummy is a grandson to 6 and I haven't ever hunted him down, but I haven't ever hunted him 4 hours a night for a prolonged period of time. I have hunted him from dark til daylight and pulled him off a tree a mile away from where I cut him and found the coon without a light.

I was mainly asking because of the punishment a dog takes, being hauled, and hunted from Zones to the following weekend at the World Hunt. I believe a lot of dogs are plumb wore out by Saturday night at the World Hunt.Seen a lot of dogs that fizzled on a breed hunt weekend.Hunting Thursday,Friday, and Saturday night.
A dog has to have the heart, and desire to keep going. What line of Blue Dogs produces this? Or,better yet, what Blue Stud dog produces this?

You need to come and hunt with GrChGrNiteCh Mad Dog Mo Blue Smoke. He has the heart and desire with a big drive that gets stronger toward the end of those long weekends. Getting ready for a big dance he is hunted every night and if we cant hunt he is roaded 5+ miles as hard as he can go. Haul him 600+ miles and hunt Thur., Fri., and come Sat. you would think he was a 1 year old puppy getting to go hunting. He won King of BBOA Nationals last year and was as strong Sat Nite as he was Thursday.
I said all of that to say this, There is a lot of dogs that we have hunted against this past two or three years ( Blue dogs) that have that kind of drive also. We all just need the dedication to hunt hard and make our hounds consistant for the big one.JMO

If you have to hunt 40 hrs a week to try and make a silk purse from a pigs ear I dont agree. I have had some pretty decent hounds but hunting them that hard, once they are solid would not make a difference. They lack better genetics not more hunting. They must be hunted alot by themselves once a solid dog. Example I had a 6yrs gyp which was soild. It got hot in May 100+ so i quit hunting. July 4 turned loose one time two water holes with at least 10 snakes at each, run her down went home. The next time was Friday UKC zone hunt. Won my cast. Saturday won cast and placed 2nd at the zone. If they are solid they will be the same no matter what. She had a lot of heart and desire. Genetics Genetics Genetics

I dont like knocking alot of coons out to them, old man says if you have to shoot alot out your aiming to high. Lots of truth in that.

I know ALOT of you don't like what you THINK you know about certain dogs. This a main reason the blues aren't as competitive on a REALISTIC and BIG level. Because of what people THINK or SAY. What I can tell you and I've hunted with , against, and just plain hunted some of the best is this..... You want to talk drive in a blue dog? I will guarantee there is NOT one with more drive than HEMI. Barks alot on the ground ya, but that's fine with me cause she RUNS a track and doesn't straddle it like most. And trees real live coons not circle trees and "excuse trees".
Gauge..... He has as many tools as anything out there and as well balanced as any. Without a doubt my favorite blue dog ever to just go coonhunting with! Tree coons lots of ways and looks darn good doing so and more brains than most people. And beat lots of good dogs who won lots of big things. Been in final 4 of prohunts and won final 4 of some major added purse events as well as AKC and plenty of UKC events so I guess the moral to that is take a coondog to a coonhunt no matter what rules/ registry and you will do you're share of winning. That's a FACT! We've proven that as well as some others have!
The real reason for the blue dogs not living up to the expectations of the people in the breed is the people would rather lower there expectations to "toot there own horn" than go outside of the box to improve the breed.

It doesn't bother me a bit. Personally I hate a dog that gets a case of slickitis if you knock coon out. I thought we were supposed to have COON DOGS, not TREE DOGS.

Not all of us have all the coons in the world to be knocking out.

My only point was to answer the question. Is it real? Yes and been proven by several people/dogs but lots of people don't want to give credit where it's due because of the kennel blindness within the breed. So it's there in the breed just needs utilized.

Erik, I suppose that most on here don't even know who you are? That's in itself is kind of humorous to me. Are you going to bluetick days this year? Good post! Lance

Lance,
Nobody knows much about old washed up dog trainers/handlers. Lol
And I'm not sure about Bluetick Days. Would sure like to have my young dog ready and go but I've pretty much retired (from coonhunting) as I have been working alot and spending all the rest of my time with my daughter really.

Lol

I understand. I appreciate the hard work and success you achieved promoting blues. Guage really built a résumé. Family comes first. I hope you get time in the future to promote the young hound. It helps us all when good ones rise to the top no matter what the bloodline is.

Competition style bluedogs have always been there,as far as deep and alone every drop not my style.First one treed with a coon no matter what others are doing is what i like.A comp.hunter needs a partner to help with expenses or deep pockets these days.Won my share in 00,01,02 with a female called jillie.May tree beside you may tree deep.strong point was she was accurate. Will give it another shot with a blue when i can save the expenses, family comes first.
