It's been a tough, heart breaking week here, as some of you know Slew Foot has been missing since running coyotes on Friday morning. He and Doc ran for 22 hours before their garmin collars died. They were bayed up several times throughout the day and well into the early morning hours of Saturday. with each attempt to get into the bay, the yote would break and move a couple miles. I lost track of them at 4 am Saturday morning. I snowhoed in to their last location and found tracks and spots where they bayed up. but no sign of either dog. Around 2pm Doc came out where I dropped them the day before, but Slew was not with him, which is very unusual since they never separate. Hunting is tough here now with nearly 30 inches of snow in the woods, with water under that, making the search difficult even with snowshoes as I cannot walk on top. The last two nights have been bitter cold and is -28 below zero as I type. I've been out day and night and I'm exhausted but will continue to search and when it warms up some and will put dogs back in that area in hopes he will come out with them. But as it looks now, he may not be with us anymore. It's hard to speculate, but there is wolf sign in the area and dangerous beaver ponds and inland lakes that he may have fallen through. Loggers, trailgroomers, and snowmobilers are all keeping an eye out, so if he is alive, hopefully someone will find him.

I still hope the best for Slew.Elements of the weather would be tuff not to mention wolves.
You did good with Slew give him the opertunity to do what he was bred to do do and he always give it his all.
We never know whats in store for our hounds when we turn them loose.
The roads here are our biggest worries.where you live so many more obsticles.
If you would would like to raise a littter out of Angel and Kid let me know.I think. It would be a great cross.
Hope the best for Slew !

SLEW FOOT HAS COME HOME! Slew walked out of the bush today not 2 miles from home after 12 days in the worst cold spell I've seen in sometime. He is VERY thin weighing maybe 30 lbs and has a lot of frostbite, but is alive! He's laying at my feet by the woodstove now, with some attention, I think he will recover well. I want to thank everyone for the calls and support over the last couple of weeks, it's sure an eye opener what people are willing to do for others in a tough spot! I'm greatfull to all for the offers to help search for him, future breedings, and pups, ect....they will not be forgotten! Mike

Mike, What a feeling it must have been after all the long hours of searching for him. 12 days in that brutal cold weather. I betcha the boys were as happy as you were to get him back in one piece. What a Blessing for you.Get him back to good health and get him collected.
Im so glad he was made his way back home.Made my day to hear the news.

Slew is recovering well, eating good and his system seems to be functioning as it should. He still has that BIG BAWL mouth as he woke me up this morning with it, I got up in time to see the house cat doing a burn out across the kitchen floor! Must have got to close to Slews bed in the pantry! Anyway it's sure a good feeling to have him back here and watching him gain strength each day, hopefully he makes a full recovery without any long lasting effects.

I've had a few calls about breeding to Slew, but until he heals up and I have him checked and hopefully collected he won't be breeding any outside females. I would like to offer Slewicide Doc up for stud as an option, Doc's is toe to toe with Slew in the timber, and even leads the race at times, good nose, speed and great treedog. He has the same hard going mentality with good conformation to run all day, every day. Mike

Mike,
The double Stinger hounds seem to have alot of track speed and your right about the tree also.Stinger could sure crank em off at the tree.No track straddlers in your pedigree.Balance Hounds.
Good Luck with Doc and when you get Slew collected I would Like to buy a collection on Doc for my future matings. So stuff Doc in the box and take him with you.
I like the look on Doc and Lou sure did put a little extra in her offspring.Doc should be a great reproducer.

Take Care and give Ol Slew a pat on the head for me.

I haven't been on here in awhile, busy with the farm, but looking forward to seeing everyone at bluetick days in angola. The hounds are doing well and I am excited for bear training to start in july, I have a few young hounds to start this year and a couple yearlings that need pushed this summer. Slew has recovered well from the winter escapade he went on, and the rest of the gang have dog house fever and are ready to rock-n-roll this summer!

I have two young females from the Doc x Bee cross that I decided to let go as I have 4 others to hunt this year, good looking and acting pups, just not sure I can hunt them all and still keep the older hounds in running shape. If anyone is interested I can bring them to BBOA days in angola. 300 each or 500 for the pair. I'll get some pictures on here in a day or two.

In my opinion, these are the type of hounds that can improve the bluetick breed. Cold noses, great track speed and good confirmation, these are the qualities that made the Bluetick breed and I pray that the desire to produce a competition hound does not destroy that.
Adios,
Gary

Gary, you and I like the same type of hounds and I assure you that I'll never breed solely for a comp style hound. I like hounds that are track minded with big ears, nothing burns me more than trying to cut a dog to a hot race and watch him do a 180 going in the opposite direction! Comp hunters like that kind of hound, but that won't work here. Track, pack and catch is the name of the game!
