I started a young fellow coon hunting. The next year he could drive himself and got int comp hunting serious. A few years later I ran across him and invited him on a coon hunt. I had my regular old dogs and he had a nite champ at that time. I kept hearing a stopwtch clicking. We killed afew cOons but I noticed he did not shine if his dog was gone. That's Ok by me, I normally hunt by myself and I am still the best coon finder I ever saw. I even found one his dog was treeing on. What beats me is why does the Comp attitude and body language have to tag allong when you are just pleasure hunting with an old friend? Needless to say I saw no need of inviting him back.

I've been in coon hunting for years and when I was over seas thats all I could think about was hearing those dogs. I joined the Military when I was 18 and been depolyed twice. I just got back into hunting the past 2 years. I bought a young male dog that trees off the tree about 5 to 10 feet. I was proud of him so I put him in a Hunt. The first turn out he located I treed him then we herd a dog fight he came back to me. We turned lose again he struck and was going down the creek. A dog pulled up short my dog came to check him and this dog downed him this all happen within 50 to 100 yrds from us so we could hear. When we got to the tree the handler stated he is biting the limbs above him and laughed. I was boiling, it might have been wrong but I told him and yeah ur dog is also biting on our dogs to he is mean and you know it. I got word back that I was wrong for saying that. I stood up for my dog. I dont understand why people wont to hunt a mean dog. I do the best I can with every hunt I go to. if another dog beats me then so be it my dog wasnt the better dog that night. I will search the tree and help the other handler fine his coon even if he dont help me. It is about the dogs not the hunters and people has forgotton that. They want their dogs to when every night. If you dont cheat your dog will not win every night there is no such thing as an unbeatable dog. I ask everyone who reads this to look back at when hunting was fun and when you was a kidd. I say this because somewhere a kidd is watching you. Dont let him grow up that way, teach him the way it should be honesty and most of all integrity.
Thanks for reading

Once I get a dog that's good enough to hunt for $10k, then I'll think about this question.

LOL i like how some people call people slick handlers. 9 out 10 times its someone that knows the rules better than someone else and they think their cheating them or they know how the rules read and use them in their favor and their cheating. if you know the rules you can call these slick handlers on their BS and just hunt like your suppose to.

you got that right, hillbilly. when they try make'n that ghost coon, i light that sucker up with 4 millon candlepower quick before they can say it moved. they hate that.
ever notice who wins most of the big hunts? honest hunters, but they have to get thru the bull first. then the crooks start say'n, their dog should have won their cast because so and so hit side of tree or some bs like that. keep'm straight that pee's em off. they know the rules inside out, just only enforce them when its to their benefit. i like them rare cast when someone honest ask to judge cast that crook is on, it amuses me. i enjoy it and feel like i got my money$ worth even if my dog don't win that night.
good hunt'n, god bless

Thank You

I got news for you, they will cheat just as bad and have a "I Hate You" attitude for one little yellow sheet! Then, they will bragg about how it went down. Do any of you remember when the old saying (His Concients Will Keep Him From Getting A Good Night's Sleep) really did mean something? It's sad nowdays what lenghs people will drupp to draw attention to themselves. I'm pretty sure God would like it better that way also.

I do however find them better with the old 5100 head I guess if the scanner isnt legal I gould carry an extra head . This guy in question wouldnt see the coon if I put a lazer dot on it or shot it out lol . Not a bad guy at all but has to win and will pull some stuff to do it . I know another guy that probably thinks Im refering to him but its not who you think

Great Job

I have lost my share of hunts because I found the other person's coon. I would go home and sleep better than I have in a long time afterwards. Totally Agree

Some handlers and many "hired guns" will do anything it takes to get a win including cheating and demonstrating a lack of sportsmanship by not shining or refusing to acknowledge seeing coon treed.

In many cases these days it's not about the best dog winning the cast it's about the best / slickest handler winning.

I'm glad the big money hunts use non-hunting judges and panels on the casts to keep the honest people honest....LOL
