Smith Rd, yes know it well. We end up over there every now and then when hunting the pipe line.

Geeze, unless ya live more north, you must hear hound music all the time.

Right there along Maple Rd and in Gratiot SGA are the only spots that I have run into our guys in green on multiple occasions.

Roger,
You must be the gentleman down the road from my in-laws farm, I remember seeing some red dogs at a place on Smith rd this fall while we were out chopping corn. We will probably run into each other somewhere in the area at some point this hunting season. Good Hunting to ya!!

Last Nights Hunt

1st drop, another coon hunters was there.
2nd drop, dog caught a coon in a corn field, but is not a kill dog. Coon ended up in a hole in the center of the field.
3rd drop, a den tree.
4th drop a 30 second coon.
5th drop a 40 foot cedar tree in the middle of a tangled mess.
6th drop, a den tree.
7th drop, didn't happen bow hunters were camped in the next 4 spots that I wanted to drop.

Oh ya got stopped by a CO after stopping to taking the garmin collar off the dog and watering her.

Bob,

A crappy night? Naw, I'll admit it wasn't a good night, but I can have much worse. lol

I was surprised by the hole and two dens in one night. On the bright side, I had no crazy bowhunter yelling at me, or better yet I didn't get shot at again.

I have seen coon walking around long into the morning. In my experiences that usually means you won't get much for tracks til later in the night after 11 or 12 . At least that has been my observations.

Had a nice little hunt last night. Deer hunter camps were pretty much everywhere, but I managed to find a couple of spots to cut a dog.

Rain pretty much pounded out a couple of cold tracks with the meat. I even managed to get home by 11:00 pm.

You didn't miss a thing. First track was decent, but the coon put it on Rain. I figured she was in trouble when the coon tapped 3 times in 100 yards. Rain picked the track right up, but I knew the coon was either trying to reach a den or a tree like she treed on. She treed on an apple tree with a dead tree that fell from about 15 yards away and was laying through the top of the apple tree. The dead tree was long enough that it extended 20 yards away from the apple tree going through the middle of about 6 more trees. No coon in any of them. This was right down near the end of Smith Rd.

The tracks got worse from there. In fact, there weren't any more tracks. She just felled tree in an old beaver swamp in the middle of a 5 year old cut-over. By that time I had enough, and I am getting really sick of wild roses!
