I had a dog that I was going to try and get qualified but since it is in Louisiana I will have to pass. It is 990 miles to Shrevport and I figured at it will cost me between me between $1200 and $1500 to go to the zones and the finals if I was lucky enough to get thereand that is a little bit more than I can afford. I have no problem with the hunt being in Louisana but I hunt swamps and cutover timber here in NC and if I was going to take off work to go to a hunt I had rather go north and hunt in easy hunting with plenty of coons than to have to drive that far to hunt in the same jungle I have to hunt in at home. Good luck to all that get qualified, maybe I can make it next year.

But, you can't get a World Title this year hunting the same jungle in NC!

You didn't understand what I was saying, I can't see driving 990 miles and spend a $1000 and take vacation time to hunt in the same kind of rought terrain like I have in NC.

Travel

A fellow from Archibald LA qualified his dog last year. He went from home to Wiggins MS. He then went from there to Wooster OH. It cost him a small fortune. He has not complained a bit. Its about having a dog that can tree a coon anywhere. I don't think everyone will be happy no matter where its held.

No trees where I live in September that don't have any leaves. Pretty sure it's the same up your way too.

leaves ?

sure do in sept. i was saying it would be even better to hold it with leaves off.less circle, less b.s.
the hot nosed "tree dogs" will not be there,or not there very long that do make it.supposed to be about tree'n coon, not trees!!

take the coon hound out and enter the coondog!!sure would be a interesting hunt.chances would be good a "pr" or "behind the barn coondog" could win then........

Leaves....now that's the first arguement for having it up North that all might agree on. But, it's more of an arguement for having it in the South but later in the Winter. That helps avoid weather problems all around (too hot, too cold, too much snow...).

Have not been there lately but when i hunted there when i was in the Air Force the hunting was pretty good. It is not swamp land like most people are probably thinking. Not sure the coon population is like i have here in Indiana but we always treed coon when we went while was there. Wish i had enough hound to get there

If I'm able to make it to the world hunt finals, I would be excited. It would be an adventure for me. Going to LA from Indiana would be a long drive but it would be worth it to me to expereince hunting in the south. I might be a once in a liftime thing for me. Something I could look back on when Im older.

I dont have any problem with moving the world hunt around. Thats the way it should be. I hope I make it down there!

They know full well all the drawbacks to having it one place veruses another. They know some will choose not to hunt down here, while others the same about up north. It is really sad when you have to come on here and boast about you won't be there....blah blah. Guess what? I doubt there is anyone who will be there that is going to miss you and ask the UKC where you are and why didn't you come? Just my guess, i don't know, but a good guess i bet.
EXACTLY... and for those on here boasting about not trying to qualify because of the location, well.... good luck winning it that one time it may held at your home club.... if i'm lucky enough to make it through the zones i'd travel to freakin Hawaii

First off UKC don't just flip a coin to see where the World Hunt will be, they check it out and make sure it will work. No matter where it is it will be in late September as it always has been and if there's trees they will have leaves as they always have. World Champions win by coon seen as they always have.
Entries are usually better in some places than others but it's a business and they have to try to keep people happy but at the same time MOST of the World hunts will be around what draws the most numbers, same with most breed days.

Not unless they change the rules and we can win with circle points, or where you planning to scratch any dog that opened his mouth and determine your winner that way?

Final Four

Hopefully I can guide the final four on Barksdale AFB. We have all sorts of terrain and water out there so it will be up to the hunters what they want to go too. 18000 acres for us to hunt just ten min from Hamel Park. To those that think there will be low scores, well you could be correct but i doubt you have won every cast with 1000 plus. Whether it is 25+ of 10000+ the dog with the most wins everytime. I would say the final four will be around 400+. There are lots of other things to do down here as well. So bring the family with you if you can. The Slam Event looks really promising with the amount of money that Shreveport has thrown into it. There are toooooonnnnns of coon down here and the top 100 should be able to tree them. Good luck to you all that qualify.

I don't know? For all I know there may be coon in the coconut trees in Hawaii, and in the Blue Spruces of Alaska.

Sorry, I don't understand. If I were just going to hunt for the fun of it, I wouldn't want to drive, spend, etc. to hunt somewhere like I could hunt at home. But, if I were going to try to win the World Hunt, I would drive wherever I needed to and hunt in whatever was there for the sake of the competition, and the experience of the World hunt. If I make it in next year and it's held in Canada, I'll make every effort to save enough and drive that far for the chance at the prize. The cost, distance, and terrain doesn't matter as long as I have the time and money to make the trip because it's not about the experience of hunting a place or terrain, but about the experience of hunting for the prize.
