Clyde,
The camera I am using is around 5 years old or there abouts. It is a KODAK EasyShare C633. I use a LEXAR SD 1GB Platinum II card. It runs on 2 AA bateries. I always set the camera to Auto mode and never zoom in on any shots. I use the camera flash and my Laser pro on 2nd to 3rd click. I try not to put my head light directly on the dog . This KODAK camera has proved it's self to be pretty darn durable. I have used it out in the pouring rain and cold. It has also taken a trip into the creek with me and still works fine. Of course I took it home opened everything up and let it air dry over night and the next day, but its still working great. It's not a very expensive camera. I thought about getting a new one, but then I thought WHY. It has become an important part of my coonhunting gear that I rely on nightly. Hope the info helps. Ebay is probably loaded with this camera. Take care, Chris

Re: Blue Iron

Thanks for the info. Do you use any editing software? I've got a Ricoh Waterproof 16MP that wasn't cheap that takes decent pictures but they're not as good as these. I had a Fuji waterproof before this one that was I think 14MP and it took better pictures than this Ricoh.

Clyde,

No, I don't use any editing software. I just take the pictures, come home pull out the SD card from camera and stick it in the computer and download them to the computer. Then I upload them to photobucket, then post them. I got to looking at the side of my camera it says 6.1 mega pixels.

That's wild, I don't buy that the more megapixels the better. I'm going to mess with this Ricoh and see what I can do with it, it should be doing better than it is.

I do have an older cheap SD card, will that affect picture quality?

I'll try to post some pictures on the Brummy thread, most on the first page have been taken in the last year.

01-18-12 HUNT

I took Sonic out last night by himself. Two nights ago Sonic and I hunted in 60 degree weather here. Last night it was 27 degrees with the wind blowing pretty good. I get to my hunting spot. I cut Sonic loose. He starts off a little slow, but not bad. He takes to the edge of the tree line around the corn field. Sonic gets in around 150 yrds and gets struck. Starts off like a cold track. I did wait to go hunting until later last night. Sonic gets the track warmed up. It is running just like the coon I turned loose on the night before. This coon runs long and hard in and around dozer piles, crosses the creek I am hunting on over and over. This coon is making it tough on Sonic. I didn't know if we were ever going to get that coon treed, then I reminded myself I am hunting a pup by himself during the rutting season of the coon. Its not going to be easy. Sonic comes treed 850 yds from where I turned him loose. The Garmin shows that within that 850 yds Sonic has ran a little over 3 miles worth of track before getting treed. Sonic was averaging almost 3 mph on this track, which I thought was pretty good, considering everything he had to go through. I am able to drive down the road and get within 450 yds of him. I get to him, he has a tree that has part of the top rotted out and gone. I could not confirm it was a den and couldn't find the coon. Thirty yards from where Sonic Treed there is a den tree with 2 coons looking out at me. So, I had to mark it up as a miss. But I was happy with how Sonic pushed and stayed with this track. At 8 months old and limited hunting, Sonic is proving himself here. Sonic slams one on our way to the truck, he has the meat. Coons must have been moving pretty good between 10:00pm and 12:00am last night I seen a total of 5, 2, in a den, 2 crossing the road and the single Sonic treed on our way out. We ended it on a good note, and headed home. Below is a couple pictures of Sonic treed last night.

Lowell,
I went to GA. early last week, we spent 5 nights down there. I didn't take a dog,I went along to keep my brother company. He did pretty good down there with his black female Raven. They got 2nd at the mini slam and won their cast Friday night just missing the cut off for placing. Then on Sat.night they drew some minus but was able to comeback and get even with the board. Before we headed down south we had a few days of ice around home. So between the ice,the trip to the Classic, and a few nights of easy chair syndrome, I havent turned a hound of my own out for a while. We have about 15 days left in season. The weather is looking good for the next week, so I will be back hitting the timber with young hounds.

How is everything going with you? All the dogs doing good? Take care,

01-30-12 hunt

Took Sonic out last night by himself. First drop treed in less than a minute out the back of the truck. Sonic is treed on a small concrete slab pile. I look in and he has the coon almost nose to nose. We move, next drop, Sonic gets struck again quick and works a track on a ditch. He comes treed 300yds in, he is treed on a den. I lead away and cut loose. Sonic gets struck quick again moves the track all over the ditch line I am hunting. Sonic comes treed. Its a slick tree next to a den. The wind is blowing across the den towards Sonic. He is treeing the air more than the tree on this deal. We move, next drop Sonic gets struck and runs the track almost to the other road, but brings it back towards me. He then moves the track towards the north in the direction of another road. I head over to him and pick him up off near the road. We move, next drop, Sonic strikes runs in about 350 yds and trees, it is a cross out. We lead off and cut loose for the final time of the night. Sonic strikes and runs the track in at 400 yds. Sonic is treed at the end of a lane in a big cotton wood tree. He has the coon. We load up and call it a night. Below is a couple pics of Sonic treed last night.

A little side note: I bought a replacement collar for the Garmin DC30 at the Winter Classic. Anyway I took the old one apart the little wire that is stitched in between the collar layers is a very delicate connection, so be careful if you take it apart. It's not just a simple plug that pops out and back together. Mine broke and I was trying to be very careful. So I have a $20 new DC30 Garmin collar, and a DC30 that is broke and won't work. Who would have thought anything like that would happen. They should of had a recall on those DC30 nylon collars, they just aren't very durable, stitching coming loose all over, but other than that I liked it very well. So, remember becareful taking one apart.

01-31-12

I met up with my friend John Bishop for a hunt last night. He brought his young female named Lady and I took Sonic. We hunted the young dogs one at a time most of the night. We did turn them loose together in a big creek bottom midway through the night. First drop, We cut Sonic alone. He struck in and hit a tree but moved on, the track looped back around then across the road down towards the end of a tree line about 1/4 mile away where Sonic treed. We get there and Sonic is treed on the side of the ditch bank in a hole. We head to the truck. It is now John and Lady's turn. John cuts Lady, she strikes in and trees about 300 yds in, she has the meat. We head to the truck and move. We get to our new spot, large creek bottom with a lot of water standing, mostly only ankle deep, but deeper in places. They strike and tree we head to them, they leave the tree tracking. We use the Garmin to find the tree they left, it is two trees tied together with a large homemade platform deer stand. I figure the coon bailed out on them before we got there. They get treed again 400 yds on in. We get there it is a large old den tree. We lead off and cut them again back towards the truck. They get struck, hit on a tree move on and get treed. We get to them it is a snag den top blown out. With the help of John I try to get up high enough to look down in the snag den, but it is just a little too far out of my reach. So we lead out to the truck and move. We get to the next spot and cut Sonic loose. I see Sonic cut back to his left , nose up moving quick. He slams a tree, it is another den. We lead off, and Sonic wants to go back to the tree, so with a little help from John, we discourage him from going back. Sonic moves on in and gets struck , moves the track along pretty good. He hits up twice but moves on, then "BAM" hes trees. We head to him. It is a den, but John sees the coon go in the hole just as we start shinning. We head back to the truck. It is John and Lady's turn again. We cut Lady loose down a tree lined ditch she hunts it out and gets struck on the very end of it. She moves the track on out in the field, it is wide open were she is at except for a hedge fence row out in the middle of nowhere about a 100yds long and some of the biggest Hedge trees I have ever seen. She comes treed in the Hedge row. We are almost 3/4 mile from her, but we are able to drive around and get within 300yds of her. We get to her she has 2 coon sitting above her. We head for the truck and call it a night. I had to get down to a tee-shirt before the night was over. Here we are Jan.31 late at night hunting in our tee-shirts around here, unbelievable. John suggested taking Sonic home with him to finish out coon season with him. I agreed and John will finish the season out with Sonic. Below are a few pictures of last nights hunt.

02-01-12 hunt

Hunted by myself last night. I took Zeus. I have had Zeus laid up for a couple weeks due to having stitches in his ear and didn't want to take a chance of it coming apart. First drop, Zeus gets treed in short order, it's a den tree. I lead off and cut back loose. It doesn't take long Zeus is treed again, it's another den. I lead off and cut him loose again. Zeus gets in deeper and comes treed. I head to him, he is treed on a large oak on the edge of a field, he has 2 coon in his tree. We head to the truck and move. Next drop, Zeus hunts the section out very well according to the Garmin. I catch him coming to a road and load up and move on. We get to our next spot, I cut him. Zeus hunts the section out and to the north road, turns and hunts back to the south. He is covering the hunting area very well according to the Garmin. I am watching him on the Garmin, I have not heard a bark out of him since I turned him loose 30 minutes earlier. There is a oil field pumping unit running in this area that has not been running all season, it makes it harder to hear with all the dang noise those things make. Garmin shows him south of me almost a mile treed. I drive out and around and get within 600yds of him, yep he is treed. I head into him. By the time I drive around and fight my way through that jungle to get to him, he has been treed in there for 55 minutes. Zeus is treed on a large water oak den in the bottoms. We head for the truck. Below are a few pictures of Zeus treed last night.

THANKS

iamlegend,

Thank you for the compliment on Zeus. Zeus does take a good picture up on the wood. He is still young with some learning to do, but I am very pleased with him so far.

davemc,

I don't think I will put him in any hunts just yet. I still want to give him a bunch of solo time. Maybe he will make his debut at one of the big blue hunts this year. Just got back from the Vet and had Zeus' stitches removed from his ear. Also had the Vet check Rat(Hardware and Jacks dam) to check her heat cycle. Vet said she was ready. I took her to a friend of mine to get bred. Russ Vernon is going to breed her to his Banjo dog. Hope all is well with you.

02-03-12 hunt

Zeus and I went to the woods tonight. First drop, Zeus goes in and loops back around with out a bark. He is headed to cross the road. I don't want him in there, so luckily I was able to catch him. We load up and moved. Second drop, Zeus strikes quick and runs the track in 600 yds down into the bottoms. Zeus comes treed. I head into him. Zeus is treed on a den. We head for the truck. It was starting to rain and I was going to call it a night, but I also really wanted to turn loose again. So, I made a third drop. I cut Zeus, he strikes quick again. He runs the track in 400 yds and trees. I head into him. Zeus has 2 coon in his tree. The boar coon was really nervous acting and was moving around a lot, looked as if he was wanting bail out, but he didn't. He head for the truck and call it a night. Below is a few pictures of Zeus treed tonight.

Clyde,

I would have liked to meet you too. I went through the barns a few times thinking I see you there. I must have missed you. I do believe we were within 4 feet of each other down there though. I was walking as you(I believe it was you)were driving out in a little truck. You were by yourself, I think the tailgate was down, red hat, red beard. GA plates. I believe it was on Friday afternoon.

You ever get up this way let me know. We will go hunting and have a good time.

02-04-12 hunt

I took Zeus and Bash out for a hunt last night. I just as well stayed home. It was one of the worst hunts I have had in awhile. First drop, Zeus gets struck and moves the track up the creek and trees. I can tell by the way he is treeing it is not the same as usual. I get to him he is treed in the creek bank. I send him on. He strikes back in ,on up the creek. I can tell its a bad track and he is not getting much done with it. I decided it best to get my hands on him and move. We move. Next drop They get in and hunt the section out decent, not a bark. Then all of a sudden they turn back and haul azz back to me, I mean right to me. Something obviously spook them or got after them. We load up and I go to Taco Bell to punish myself for hunting last night No just kidding it wasn't too bad. But the hunt last night did suck. Wind was out of the East with some light rain. I may try it again tonight after the Patriots get a 20 point lead on the Giants before half time.

Lance, we'll have to agree to disagree on the football stuff. Thanks for the comments on Brummy. You feed the kind of hound I like too. "Competition" bred hounds (haha!)
