I searched all of the Craigslist ads for cities in western NC. Found a post about Ace on the Asheville, NC Craigslist too. There is a found male Walker coonhound listed on the Winston-Salem Craigslist and I called and spoke to Quincy. Gave him the number since the posting was just put there yesterday. Keeping fingers crossed.

We spoke by phone this afternoon and I will get more information to you tomorrow.

HAVE FOLLOWED UP WITH A COUPLE OF LEADS.

NOTHING YET.

STILL HOPEFUL THOUGH.

I HAVE FOUND OUT SOME VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION IN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. I SPOKE TO A DETECTIVE YESTERDAY. LOL. HE HAD THE NERVE TO ASK ME WHAT INFORMATION I CAME UP WITH. If it was my dog missing, I'd be more concerned about finding him than I would be about who got the credit for finding him. Come on Christy, tell them what you've got and help them to help you. Not all law enforcement people are the enemy.

WHAT I FOUND OUT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ACE'S DISSAPPEARANCE. OR I DONT THINK IT DOES. EVERYTHING I FOUND OUT IS STUFF THAT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL (5-10) YEARS AGO. BUT, IF IT IS STARTING AGAIN, IT COULD PERTAIN TO OUR CASE IF ACE WAS STOLEN BY ONE OF THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE PAST DOG SMUGGLING RING. AND THEY ALREADY KNOW ALL THE INFORMATION ON THAT. SO REALLY, I DIDNT FIND OUT ANYTHING THEY DIDNT ALREADY KNOW, BUT IT WAS VALUABLE INFO FOR ME.

WE WERE TOLD THAT ACE IS THE 1ST STOLEN HOUND DOG THAT'S EVER HAD THE COLLAR THROWN IN THE RIVER IN JACKSON COUNTY.

THEY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW TO INVESTIGATE IT.

Based on my experience through the years with losing dogs and talking to many sources for info, I discovered that law enforcement does not have the resources to track down missing/stolen dogs (even when some of the officers are hound owners).
HOWEVER,
I found that talking to every possible dog-related individual can give you some good leads. "Innocent" conversation with those who hunt, buy/selldogs, trade dogs, have out-of-state connections, etc. can be valuable. Sometimes it's good to have a friend ( looking for a good TW) talk to people without mentioning YOUR situation. Have any of your NEIGHBORS seen any cars/trucks slow down or stop at your property? I realize that you've probably done ALL of these things - just mentioning past experience. A friend in Okalahoma found his TW in Ohio because he chatted with locals & I was told (too late) by pleasure hunters down the road from me that one of my missing (while hunting) Blueticks had been sold to someone in another state as a started dog.

THE ONLY THING THAT BOTHERS ME IS THIS:

AND I TALKED TO THE COPS ABOUT THIS TOO, AND EITHER WAY, WETHER HE WAS STOLEN TO BE RESOLD, OR WETHER HE WAS "RESCUED" BY A CONCERNED CITIZEN.

ACE HAD A NAMEPLATE COLLAR ON AS WELL AS THE TRACKING COLLAR. IT HAD MY NAME AND BOTH OUR NUMBERS ON IT.

SO WHEN THEY TOOK THE TRACKING COLLAR OFF, AND KEPT HIM, AND DIDNT CALL US, THAT IS THE SAME AS STEALING TO. BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE CONTACT INFORMATION RIGHT THERE BUT THEY ARENT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

Collar

A possibility is that they kept the collar on Ace so they'd have a way to control him. If so, they'd get rid of the collar at their destination - which, unfortunately could be ANYWHERE. Almost appears could be an opportunity seized by "AR" people. Any of them in your area? Any oddball "rescuers" in your area? If so, do they hold the animals on their property or do they take them somewhere - to a facility or colleague?

............Christy..........I apologize if I missed this somewhere else in this thread........but were you hunting him alone??........with other dogs??................if so, where did the other dogs turn up??..................most of the hard core dog theives that specialize in hounds move them VERY quickly, to a far off area..............I hope through all this attention and pictures, somebody recognizes him in a northern state if that's where he got gone to......prayers still bein' sent.......John

WE TURNED SID JR, HERCULES AND ACE LOOSE.

HERCULES AND ACE WENT ACROSS THE MOUNTAIN, JR DID TO BUT HE CAME BACK AND TREED.

THEY WENT TO HIM, GOT HIM. PUT HIM IN THE TRUCK. WE WENT AROUND TO TRACK, AND IT WAS LIKE 10:00. THAT TRACKING BOX ACTED CRAZY ALL NIGHT. WE'D TRACK HERE, THEN THERE, IT WAS VERY WEIRD.

THEN HERCULES AND ACE WERE BOTH ON THE HEAD OF LEWIS COVE. THEY WERE CLOSE, BUT NOT TOGETHER. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ACE JUST DISSAPPEARED OUT OF TRACKING RANGE, AND HERCULES WENT BACK ACROSS AND WE PICKED HIM UP ON THE ROAD WE ORIGINALLY TURNED OUT ON.

WE TRACKED FOR ANOTHER 30 MINUTES WITH NOTHING ON ACE, AND WE WERE GOING HOME, AND LEVI JUST HAPPENED TO TURN THE BOX ON CLOSE TO THE CHURCH AND IT STARTED BEEPING. IT TOOK US ABOUT 30 MINUTES TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE COLLAR WAS. BECAUSE AT THE CHURCH, YOU TURN LEFT AND GO ACROSS THE WILMOT BRIDGE. AND THEN YOU ARE AT THE 4LANE.

WE WOULD GO ACROSS THE 4LANE AND IT WOULD TRACK BACK AT THE CHURCH. DID THAT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND DECIDED THE COLLAR MUST BE BETWEEN THE TWO. SO TURNED THE GAIN DOWN TO LIKE 1.5 AND IT STARTED BEEPING AS WE WENT ACROSS THE BRIDGE.

WE PULLED OFF, QUINCY AND LEVI WENT ONTO THE BRIDGE AND I COULD SEE WHERE THEY WERE TRACKING AND SHINING THEIR LIGHTS, AND I KNEW RIGHT THEN WHAT HAD HAPPENED.

I KNEW ACE WAS GONE RIGHT THEN. THEN QUINCY AND LEVI AND QUINCY CAME BACK

..when Ace's signal got gone, was it way off the road........near some homesteads?????.when they were at the head of Lewis Cove.....were they trailing, or did ya just have them on the telemetry box???
