bush....

no doubt need a leader that will stand strong, but when that stand is wrong need to reposition.... iraq did not have any involvement in 9/11, no weapons of mass destruction, no insurgency or civil war before our invasion... bin laden still at large, afghanistan returning to instability, iran now a real force and threat to the region and our efforts, gaza-palestine in civil war.... we need to stand strong and destroy those who want to kill us, but iraq has proven to be the wrong place-wrong time for that effort... no doubt we will be a presence there for many years as President Bush now compares the situation to korea where we have been for 50 plus years, believe this is the same president that declared the victory won.... our borders are porous and terrorism seems to have an open door policy to enter.... support our troops and their brave efforts as well as the president, but continuing to pursue a policy that has been a failure should indicate the need for not more of the same, but a change that will help to insure a successful outcome, strong and wrong has not proven to work .....

we need to worry about our own country before we worry about the middle east. bring the troops home kick all the alians out shore up our boarders.

i belive if the us stopped buying oil from the middle east it would do more good then then sending the troops in there.

you know i never thought i would live to see the day i would need a passport to go to canada. if canada of all countries has a problem with the us. then god help us we're worst off then what we think.

bush...

lot of sad.....truth in what FC has stated... we do need to be vigilant and continue to pursue-destroy those intent on killing us, but buying that oil from them only fuels and funds terrorism, we become more dependent on those dedicated to our demise, big oil gets richer and the citizen suffers in innumerable ways... terrorism has spread become stronger while we fight in Iraq in the wrong -war wrong time-wrong place...

pres

I dont remember a good president in my 39 years. The working man is screwed either way 1 is for the rich 1 is for special interest.I blame Bush and Clinton for this mess it would have helped to accept BinLaden when he was offered to us but Clinton did not accept and for 8 years allowed Hussein to ignore sanctions against him.As for people who complain about jobs lost this will probably surprise you more UNION jobs were lost during Clintons presidency than during Bush I did not beleive it until I was shown the numbers so if we want a change we need to go in a totally different direction this election get away from the people who have had much to do with the past years.

I guess that means he voted for him in a primary also. Must have voted against him once (or not voted). He could have voted for him 4 times if he chose to.

Rudy's children don't even support him. That should say all that needs said. His daughter is actually publically supporting another presidential candidate, and his son doesn't speak to him. If he can't lead a small family, why should we expect him to lead an entire country.

WORTH THE READING AND THOUGHT TIME.

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see....

"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''

Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes , an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and
computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have , and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?

The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it.....are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful ass every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.

They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage.

Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.

We are the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative."

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Jay Leno

aigh!

Though I very much consider myself a Republican over any other party, if Giuliani gets the nod from the Replublican party, my vote will go Democrat or other. I absolutely cannot support that man.
Duncan Hunter is my choice for a candidate in '08.
I look at is as this, yes the war in the middle east isn't what we want, show me someone from the DFL who has a better plan, we all know Obama has some slick ideas floating around in his head.
We all want to complain about the price of oil, and we're adding money into the terrorists pockets by purchasing it. A) I don't know about your area, but here gas hasn't gone down a cent since Dem's came in after promising to lower it. B) The Dem's are the ones fighting and not allowing the US to tap their own oil.
As far as the war goes, overall, no one seems to have a plan. I'm not about to just listen to what CNN or even FOX news gives me as "the facts". I'll go off of what I hear coming from soldiers and airmen who have seen it first hand, and 99% of the time, they tell a completely different story than the make-up wearing news anchor behind the desk in NY.
I voted for Bush both times. Big points for me was his stance on abortion, gay marriage, gun rights, welfare, and the military. He has done everything I have expected from him when it comes to those issues. Yes there's other things I'm not so pleased about, but when it comes to those matters, I don't see anything better coming from any other politician.

Don't see it often cause Leno didn't write it.

It was written by Craig R. Smith

If you liked the commentary from 2006 (below), you'll probably like his commentary from August 2007. Just don't attribute it to someone else!

bush has proven to be all show, but no real go, the exception, our fiasco in iraq that is costing many-many billions and countless lives and for what.... iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, we must be vigilant and fight-destroy terrorism, but it did not exist in iraq before GW and his failed efforts, hope we are successful there-but not sure what that means, sad thing is neither does this admistration have a clue... believe history we show GW will be judged as the worst president in modern history and not just for his debacle in iraq... Rudy is another in the mold of talk-not action, check his real record of performance, his personal life makes slick willie look like a saint.... not an advocate of either major party and the hacks they promote... they are all just political whores pimped out by the vested interests that fund them at the expense of the citizen... not sure who might be the best of the worst, but at this point in time Gov. Richardson may have the best handle on the needs of the country and he also may well be the most experienced and most capable.... course he has about as much chance as I do of being elected...

i strongly disagree w/ this...
bush has done what he said he was going to do on practically every issue...
even many democrats will say that one respectable trait of his is that he does what he says he's going to do...

the victory has been won..... social security going to be privatized.... tax structure to be reformed.... am a uniter and not a divider... no more business as usual... on and on , believe the president said this as well as many other things, yet to deliver.... now I would agree that he never changes his mind, stands strong- unfortunate that many times wrong... never accepts responsibility, but always claims credit... no different then any other politician in that respect... hope and pray for him to be successful, have yet to to see it... he has created more divisions in this country and the world then any president in history... great thing is this nation is that we have the right to both agree and disagree... far and away the best country ever, but one we can make even better...
