dog feeds

I have been feeding pedigree! it keeps the proper weight on my dogs and tey dont seem to run out of juice while hunting! I buy 50#'s for $12.00 I dont think thats too bad. I did like black gold and PKC but I cannot afford to feed five hounds at 15-18 dollars a bag. I generally feed 200- 250 #'s every three months

black gold

the black gold in the black bag is what people here around my neck of the woods love. because it makes a dog hold weight and my uncle swears to me that it has changed the performance in his hounds, for the best part. i have been feeding black gold but tonight i won 2 fifty pound bags of diamond. i got the high energy and i believe ill try that for a lil bit.

I feed Pzazz

It is about $14.50 a bag for 50 pounds and takes very little to keep your hounds in good shape. In my opnion it is the best for the money. I buy it at Bright Eyes Dog Depot in Rock Hill, S.C.

Just what kind of "diamond" are you getting for 14 dollars a bag?

It's 20 bucks a bag here and nothing will touch it when it comes to a hard hunted dog. They got loads of energy, stay "just right" weight wise even when hunted 3-6 nights a week and if you don't watch them they will get too fat on ya quick all while eating and pooping less.

I like Black Gold too, that would be what I would feed if I couldn't get Diamond, but I am wondering what kind of Diamond you can get for 14 bucks.

we feed old roy hi pro for almost a year & the dogs did well enuff. then we got to many dogs & had to start feeding some real cheap o stuff. We have also tried diamond for the adult dogs and could not stand it. Mixed it with the old dog food for a gradual switch and fed it for a little over a month & the pens were a stinking mess. The dogs just were not digesting it right. Also tried purina dog chow with the same results. Now we feed the Black Gold yellow bag $13.00 & out of ten dogs we only have one that is not doing well on it. We switched him to old roy hi pro & thats the feed for him. For our pups its nothing but diamond puppy. They digest it well, its small so i can grind it in the food processor when we are weaning pups and the pups grow at the right speed so we have never had an issue with bone/joint problems. We have feed pro plan puppy with good results but it is really pricey when your feeding a whole litter. Plan ol raw meat is the beat when you can afford it.

Hi,
I have my 2 on Wellness. They love it and it keeps them in great condition. One of my kids had food allergies and they do a great hypo-allergenic that has worked wonders.

Catwoman, that explains it, that's why I asked "what kind" of diamond you were getting for that price. You were using their "cheap" version. I tried a bag of it and it didn't do mine any good either, they didn't like it very much to boot.

However, the adult formula (green bag or "green diamond" as it is called) is the real deal and I am almost 100% sure most everybody on here is talking about the "green diamond" when they say they regularly feed Diamond (that or their puppy food). It keeps em fat and sassy and ready to hunt all night ever night LOL.

We tried purina products but then switched to diamond, but when they got the bad corn batch, we quit feedin cause we're in Ohio...but now we're back to purina cause they do lots of research and make sure their dogfood is healthy.....the dogs like it, they stay full of energy, and they have shiny coats....

Diamond, Pedigree, Purina, Ol'Roy... There's far better food out there.

I can understand some folks want cheap "junk food" like Pedigree and Ol'Roy because that's as best they can do financially, but people can go up a notch to high quality, holistic food like PRO PAC and do MUCH better. Here, take a look:

16. 5 LB bag (Pro Pac Adult Mini Chunk Premium Dog Food) $12
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Adult Mini Chunk Premium Dog Food) $20
16.5 bag (Pro Pac Large Breed Adult Premium Dog Food) $14
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Large Breed Adult Premium Dog Food) $22
33 LB bag (Pro Pac High Performance Premium Dog Food) $22
16.5 LB bag (Pro Pac Earthborn Holistic Premium Dog Food) $22
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Earthborn Holistic Premium Dog Food) $37
20 LB bag (Pro Pac Lamb Meal & Rice Premium Dog Food) $17
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Lamb Meal & Rice Premium Dog Food) $22
20 LB bag (Pro Pac Adult Chunk Premium Dog Food) $11
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Adult Chunk Premium Dog Food) $20
20 LB bag (Pro Pac Lamb Meal & Rice Premium Dog Food 20-Lb Bag) $16
16.5 LB bag (Pro Pac Low Fat Rice & Chicken Meal Formula Premium Dog Food) $16
33 LB bag (Pro Pac Low Fat Rice & Chicken Meal Formula Premium Dog Food) $22

(Obtained prices from PetFoodDirect.Com)

Holistic is great and actually SAVES you money since your dog digests it better and eats less (which means less poo). Not to mention the best thing about holistic food is that it doesn't contain the filelrs, by-products, and chemical preservatives that Diamond, Pedigree, Purina, Ol'Roy and many of the others have. IMHO, Diamond, Pedigree, Purina, Ol'Roy and the others (Iams, Eukanuba, and Science Diet) are the McDonald's of the dog world. You wouldn't feed McDonald's to your child all the time so why feed it to your pets? If you don't believe me about "junk" foods like Diamond, Pedigree, Purina, Ol'Roy, and the like then you should read Mordanna's article The Science Diet Scam.

Anyhow, here's a list of holistic dog food maufacturers. Take the time to go over some of the food. You may just find something a lot better and healthier for your dog.

guess what with all purinas research they also have had the same problem that diamond had and i also remember purina having trouble a few years back with other animals foods this can and does happen with any manufacturer of animal food,
the food quality is only as good as the employees mixing the food and the persons they have in quality control.
now don't get me wrong purinas top of there line foods are hard to beat but there dog chow is terrible RESEARCH has proven time and time again that corn is hard to digest for dogs along with some other grains. plain and simple dogs are meat eaters not grain eaters. your first three ingredients are the basis for the food if corn is first for example that food is mainly cord the first ingredient should be meat and meat products.
when a lot of people say they feed purina which one are they using?
now as far as diamonds mold problem or fungus problem cornell university vet school did research and found most of the dogs wouldn't eat the bad food so people were adding gravy and meat to make them eat it .
i have raised dogs for a long time and have noticed most dogs will not eat a bad batch of food so if this occurs put the food on the side and bring it back to be analized or just throw it out but don't add goodies to make them eat it

I dont know about the discount program but the food is great and is made by Purina.

Hey guys,
well down here purina's expensive so we stick with the next best thing same amounts of protiens and fats just half the cost. nuetrinas pro premium. and you don't have to feed alot and you don't clean up alot of acidents. EVEN though it stinks when you have one in the house given them a bath and they use the bathroom in the bathroom just not in the potty.

It was all caused by the diamond dog food. And ever sence then hes been feeding pro premuim high energy for 15.50 a bag for 50 pnds. just thought i would let ya'll in on that

cajun hounds

tell me how do you know this caused the deformed puppies
was the mother ever sick, how do you know she was fed the bad batch of food and the mother herself would have been real sick right after she ate the bad batch of dogfood'
what you are saying is not fact as you state it's your belief and my belief is your wrong research the problem with the dog food and it's effect on the aborted litter than tell me what you think all the dogs that ate the contaminated food got sick as soon as they ate it and died soon after first eating it.
your just assuming this is what happened

thats what they believed caused the deformed pups. we aren't completly sure thought i was just stating the facts that its possible thats what cause it. like i said thats what we think. she might have been sick but she did not die from it and they have bred her again and she like about 3 weeks and isn't even showing yet. so we are waiting and seeing whats going to happen.

Best food

I feed BLACK GOLD in the black bag. Ive tried a lot of brands such as diamond-sportmix-Purina- still go back to BLACK GOLD. I dont have to feed as much to keep their weight on and the dogs love it. It gives them a nice coat too. Easy clean up.
I think a lot of people just switch foods too fast and dont give the dogs a chance to adjust to it . thats why the dogs have loose stools when you feed a new feed.
You must feed what works best for you in your area and the conditions you hunt your dogs under. Dont just feed a feed because it is the cheepest, You may have to feed more of it to get the same results. For my hounds though it will be BLACK GOLD . I ran out once and had to feed a bag of diamond and the dogs did not want to eat it . Went and got some more gold and they love me for it.
