Thank you very much! Swag is really hitting his stride with the cooler weather. The weather was pretty rough to say the least that night- 15-20mph sustained winds and 30mph gusts! I never dreamed that we would look at 5 coons on a night like that but Swag got them stirred up! This makes his 31st cast win overall. He's won 6 NiteCh casts since he got his last win. The monkey has finally jumped off our back!!!

This should make one powerful cross. I am very excited to say the least! They won't be for the weak of heart.

We are just getting started!!

Thanks Tim and Mike- he is coming along nicely. He will be a good one when he grows up.

He's already got $104 won for this year. The cold weather suits him well. It should make for a great winter! He's really just coming into his own. Candy's pups make coondogs!

When I first started hunting as a kid, I never dreamed of looking at 200 coons through the year here in the foothills of Virginia. I am glad that the coon population is alive and well here (and seemingly increasing).

Hope the big trip west goes well! We all need to get together sometime over the winter to hunt.

I forgot to share this with you all-

A young hunting buddy of mine asked to handle Clyde in the local high school's FFA coonhunt. The local FFA chapter sponsors a coonhunt each year and it is open only to youth. This young man has been tagging along with me for about a year now and has really gotten into it. Of course many of the young hunters in the hunt had already won the trophy before they turned the dogs loose!

On the first drop, Clyde carried first strike and got treed by himself. The other dogs came into his tree and they had a coon. On the next drop, Clyde got struck in and three of the dogs got treed with about 10 minutes left in the hunt. Clyde came back across the ridge heading in the opposite direction. Hunting time ran out and they left to score the tree. The other young men were all licking their chops! They just knew they had my young hunting buddy beat since Clyde was nowhere to be found! Imagine their surprise when they got to their tree and saw sneaky pete looking down at them. Brad and Clyde ended up winning 1st place overall!

Simon the Fact that a School, Any School sponsors anything with the word Hunt it is a win for us all, Next year Homemade Kennels would love to help sponsor, or donate a Pup to the winner, Or maybe school supply's, Simon Thanks for the work you do teaching, That's a job not many can handle these days..

Thank you for the kind words. It's a challenge at times for sure.

I agree about the school allowing them to have a hunt. I was shocked when they approved it. Luckily our community is relatively tight-knit and rural area. Most of the folks in the area cling to their heritage at least somewhat and we have many hunters of some capacity in our ranks. The kids had a great time. As far as I know, it will continue next year. I will keep you updated. I am sure that they would greatly appreciate anything that would be donated! They get excited over any type of prize. I've never seen someone so excited to get a bag of dog food and a collar

Swag picked up another cast win last night and $45.00 more last night in a $KC hunt bringing his yearly earnings to $149. He has already picked up 3 cast wins this year in the 4 $KC hunts that I have been able to take him to this year. He ended up with 200+ and steamrolled the only coon we saw in the hour.

We got snowed/sleeted on last night on and off. Sometimes it was pretty heavy. I don't remember it snowing this early in recent times. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come....

Low of 18* tonight with highs during the day barely above freezing. At least it looks like we warm up next week a bit. Here is a picture from last winter:
