Not hunting

Mr. Tommy I'm still down with what ever this is I got. One day I will feel like I've been run over by a truck and say I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow and the next day I'll feel a little better and I think I may be getting over it and don't go to the Dr. and the next day I'm back in front of the truck, but I have been down with this stuff for about 2 weeks now and you can bet if there is a Dr. anywhere to morrow I will be there. Mr. Tommy I saw where you sold your Merle dog. I know that he was a real good young dog and there is someone out there that is happy hunting him.
Take care Mr. Tommy.

Lucas mcree and smoke

This pic is from last Saturday night at ms state youth hunt.lucas mcree handled smoke and placed 2 overall.I don't think he woulda been any happier if he woulda won the world hunt.He and his little brother Trevor are to of the most respectful well mannered young men that you could ever ask to be around.A fun time was had by all and were looking forward to next year.

SMOKE

Congrats to Lucas! I know he is a happy young man! I wish I had been keeping up with the hunts because I know Mason would have loved to been there that day with all the other kids and we were keeping him to sitting around the house on that rainy Saturday with nothing to do. My fault that I haven't been keeping up with whats going on. Proud for Lucas and Smoke! New Coonhunter in the Making!

Sheba 11

Took Gin 11 out first tonight for a couple of drops and never got a bark. Came back to the house and left Gin and picked up Sheba 11 and headed down to the river, turned her off an ole woods road and she went in 300 yrds and struck a working track, worked it on in another 200 yrds and treed. I went around to her and walked in to hr and she was treed up a large hardwood with a hole in it about 3/4 of the way up. I went on down toward the river and turned her loose and she went hunting. She struck a cold track about 700 yrds in, but it was just to cold for her. She finally worked it within 200 yrds of another road and I went in and got her and we called it a night. It had been about a month since these dogs had been hunted and it showed, but I don't think the coons were hardly moving at all, and with all the rain we have had in the past few days makes it hard on the dogs.

Mr Combs was up for a hunt. It was a little frosty, moon light and at 23 degrees not a perfect night to hunt. The blue dogs managed to tree 3 trees with coon, a couple den trees and a few slick trees. The young dogs couldn't do much on the ground and would blow up treed.

Tramp 11 and Gin

I took Gin 11 out for a short round tonight. I turned her in on a feeder bucket, but the coons hasn't been hitting them. She went in on the bucket, but she didn't strike there. She went on in another 100 yrds and hit a cold track. She took it on in another 350 yrds and I went around to get closer. I went as far as I could on the 4-wheeler and she was still 180 yrds in. I knew she had gotten into some steep bluffs. I was sitting on the 4-wheeler listening to her work and about that time she came treed. I grabbed my rifle and went to her. When I got to her she was treed on a tree laying across across what we call Dry Creek. The water was from knee deep to waist deep with the rain we have have had lately. The bluffs on both sides were about 8 feet high. I knew that she had done her best. I have had a lot more experienced coon hounds that had problems treeing coon in here. I leashed Gin up and we walked back to the 4-wheeler. I like this little dog more everytime I hunt her.

Scott, that sure is a beautiful little female on that tree in the picture you posted. That whole litter looked a lot alike. Thank you and stay warm. I read where you said the wind chill will be 25 below. My gosh, I cant stand it 25 above.

HUNTING

Just checking in on you Mr. Jack. Hope your over your cold and feeling good now and hunting some. I'm going to give Bo and Bam a round here in a few minutes for the first time in about two weeks. I'm still in pain a little but not near as bad as I was so hoping the hunt goes good for me. Mr. Ed fell on ice and frozen ground the other day doing chores and is in the hospital with 6 broke Ribs. I sure feel for him cause that's a slow, painful recovery. I will talk to you soon, Take Care and have a Merry Christmas.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a short run tonight, dropped her off on a couple of feeder buckets that the coons hadn't been hitting very good. I could tell she was smelling one but it was cold. She moved it on in 100 yrds before she got it warm enough for her to open on and then she moved it on in pretty good, I came back out and hit another road to stay fairly close to her. She went on in another 400 yrds and treed. I got even with her and walked on in to her. It was real thick in there where she was at. She was treed up a small tree going up into a bigger tree. I tried to shine it, but you couldn't see much. We left there and headed to the river. Turned her down a branch, she went down it aways and struck and worked on down the branch about 100 yrds and swung out away from the branch and started coming back toward me and she came by me like a streak, I thought she might have picked her up a deer, although I've only had to bump her off of one and I haven't had any more trouble with deer. and she headed on up the swamp. I went around and got ahead of her just in case I needed to cut her off. about the time I killed the 4-wheeler she treed. I grabbed the rifle and went to her, again she was treed up a smaller tree going up into a bigger tree. I took a couple of pictures and started looking for the coon. At first I didn't see him, but there was a vine and I pulled it and he looked at me. I had to give her this one. We went on down to the river and made another drop, She went in and struck again, but it was another cold track. She worked it a while in and out of a slough, but it was just to cold a track for her. I called her out and we called it a night.

Thanks Steve, I'm doing fine, I done got to be one of those fair weather coonhunters. I'm hard to get out of the house if it gets below 30 degrees. I'm sure sorry to hear about Mr. Ed. I've never had a broke rib, but I've seen a few fellows that did and I know that it is a painful injury. I'll be praying for Mr. Ed. I'll wait a few days and give him a call. I hope you are doing a lot better with your Siatic nerve problem. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Beverly.

Hope things are going well Mr. Jack. The young Gin II female sounds like she is getting the hang of it. I wish you the best with her.

Coon hunt

Mr. Tommy, I would sure love to have you and Mr. Donald up for a hunt, but at this time of year the deer hunters have got everything so tied up that I'm afraid to get the hounds out very much. I have only hunted Sheba once or twice since Deer season came in and I haven't hunted Smoke any on account he hunts so wide. I got a couple of small places with feeders that I hunt the pups some. As soon as this deer season is over with I would sure like to get you and Mr. Donald up for a hunt. Take care Mr. Tommy and Merry Christmas to you and Yours.

Gin 11

Took Gin out for a short run tonight. Turned her off an ole woods road. I have a feeder in there, but the coons for some reason around here are not hitting them. I guess the deer hunters are keeping them fed up. she didn't hit on the feeder and made a circle and went on in another 150 yrds and struck a cold track and started working it. I went back toward the main road in case she started that way. I wasn't far from where her mom was killed. When I got even with her I stopped and just listened to her work and watched her on the garmin. She kept it moving, opening about right. When I got even with her she was about 75 yrds in and started moving deeper. When she got to 225 yrds in she locked up treed. She sure does sound a lot like her mom and she was really lighting it up. I got the rifle and went to her. She was treed up a big Turkey pine. I found a couple of spots where I could see some of it. I couldn't find him,but she sure acted like he was there. The only way that you are going to find them in these big turkey pines is if he just comes out and looks at you. This would have been a good place to take some pictures, but my camera went out on me. I been looking for something to buy myself for Christmas, so I guess that will be it. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and went to another spot, She opened about twice about 150 yrds in and quit it and come on back. I figured it was something she didn't need to be fooling with anyway. We called it a night.

Congratulations Jeremy and Bell

Jeremy Traveled over to Ovett, Ms. last night. He showed Bell (Shadow and Gin) in the bench show and won Best of Show and Hunted her in the nite hunt and won another 1st Place. This is two 1st place wins, 2 week ends in a row for Bell. Jeremy said there was 20 dogs there last week end and 25 dogs there this weekend. Those are pretty good turn outs in this part of the country. Maybe I can get him to put a picture of her on here.

That's great news Mr. Jack! Jeremy sure knows what a good one is and can win in the hunts! The cross with the Tramp sons and Gin sure are getting it done. I have equally high hopes for the Shadow and Hammerhead cross that was made here.
I wish you all the best of luck with your dogs and a Happy New Year!

Scott

Sheba 11 and Gin 11

Chris came by a little earlier tonight. He wanted to go to his place and get some of the coons off his deer feeders. We loaded up Sheba and Gin, dropped them out on the first feeder and they struck and went about 50 yrds and Gin locked up with Sheba right behind her. We found the coon pretty quick and Cody, Chris's son knocked him out , but he lodged and we never did get him out. We went to another feeder and they struck quick and went about 50 yrds and Sheba locked up with Gin right behind her. It was a big den tree. We went on to another feeder and they struck again right quick and another 50 yrds and Sheba locked up treed again with Gin right behind her. We found this one pretty quick and Cody put it out. It was good to get Gin on some good tracks. It was good to get back out hunting with Chris and Cody. We called it a night.
