Illinois Hunt. Friday Nov. 11
Tonight we started out hunting Smoke, Bobby and Bam. We turned them up a woodland Hollow and they went in about 350 yrds and struck. Smoke and Bobby went left and Bam went Right. Bam got in another 150 yrds and treed and really sounded good. Smoke and Bobby ran theirs another 200 yrds and crossed an open field and caught him in a pond and the fight was on. The coon was so big that they couldn't do anything with him. He weighed about 30 pounds. He went up a tree at the edge of the pond one time and I thought he was safe, at least I thought the dogs were safe, nothing doing he turned around and came back down the tree and joined the fight again. We finally had to shoot the coon to get the dogs and I think they were sure thankful for the help. I took Smoke and Bobby back to the truck and Steve and Kaleb went to Bam. He was still treeing hard and haden't paid the coon fight any attention. I will stop my Illinois Hunt stories here and let Steve tell some, as I know he has a lot to tell. Don't pay any attention
to what he says about me, because he just got mad cause the Coyotes liked to have got him.LOL. I would just like to say that I truly enjoyed these hunts and the visit to Mr. Ed's. Mr. Ed and Mrs. Mary treated us like Royalty and Mrs. Mary is such a great cook. When you set down to her table, you don't have to worry about what she is cooking, You know its going to be good. I also enjoyed meeting their grand son and grand daughter, These were two remarkable young people. I guess Steve is the toughest guy I have ever been around as he was almost down in his back with that Sciatic Nerve and he went all the way To Illinois and hunted those hills and hollows every night and never gave up. I have had that same problem before and its the most pain I have ever had. I sure enjoyed the trip.
The picture above of the dog monument was a tombstone on a grave. I'm not real sure if it was a coondog or not. It looked like a Black and Tan. I thought that the people that did this for him must have known that he really loved his dog. I wouldn't mind having something like that on mine one of these days.
Dennis I sure wish you could have been there, We had a lot of fun.
