Smoke
Took Smoke out for a run tonight. Turned him off an ole woods road and he went in headed east for about 75 yrds and made a sharp turn south for another 75 yrds and slamed a tree. He never opened on the ground. I walked in to him and he was treed up a medium sized hard wood tree. It kind of looked like a persimmon tree, but it wasn't. When I walked into the tree, there was a small branch between me and where he was treed. There were only a few leaves on the tree and there was no doubt in my mind that this tree was slick. I started not to even walk out on the other side and look, but I did and I could see a buldge in the tree way up near the top and when I put the scope on it I could plainly see that it was the coon. I figured it was a small coon, but it wasn't it was a big boar coon. We moved on down the swamp and turned loose again. Smoke went in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track. He moved it across a slough and on through an oak flat and into a bad cutover, but he only went through the edge of the cutover and back into the oak flat went silent for about 75 yrds and locked up treed. I rode to about 20 yards of where he was treed. He was treed up a large Oak and unlike the other tree it was loaded with leaves. There was also a big Turkey pin close by with a big limb going into the oak that he could have crossed out on, but with out him looking I wasn't going to find him in either tree and I didn't. We moved on down to thee sunken swamp and turned smoke into it and he went in about 300 yrds and struck a working track. Moved it on out to about 600 yrds and bumped a tree and turned and trailed back toward where I was at for about 150 yrds and locked up treed. I rode right up to the tree. He was treed up a huge oak. I walked almost all the way around the tree squalling and shining. I had planed on shooting this one out but I had decided I was not going to find him, so I said coon If you will let me find you I will not shoot you. When I looked back up there. There he laid in plain sight on that big limb in the top picture. I told the coon how lucky he was and leashed Smoke up and we called it a night. I don't think Smoke liked the Idea to much of Him doing all the work and me making deals with the coon
