HUNT

Hunted last night for a little while. Drake hunted Cotton and my nephew, Griffin, went so we took BB and Andy to see which one he could call the easiest. Griffin hunts with me some and I gave him the Rickett dog and a pup out of Mad Dog John II and Shelly. Both these boys are going to hunt in the BBOA Youth National Championship hunt at Lawley, AL this weekend. First drop we cut Andy and BB together. BB got the strike on Andy and they started a pretty good track. They went about 200 yds and both dogs blew up on a tree. We got to them and they were on a small tree running into a huge pine tree. There were blackberries everywhere. We could never get the coon to look. Griffin thought he could call BB a little easier so we moved and cut Cotton, BB, and Cy loose. BB must have smelled an armadillo close as she didn't want to hunt. I gave her some encouragement with a switch and she left out. Cotton struck in at about 350 yds and BB soon put in with her. Cy had went left handed and opened a few times. Cotton soon let out a screaming locate followed very closely by BB and her dying bawl locate. Those females lit up the bottom and were nice to listen to as we made our way to the tree. We got to the tree and Cy came in but didn't tree with them. I just handled him and we looked the tree. It was very hard to see the tree with all the undergrowth and canopy surrounding the tree. We finally called it quits and never got the coon to look. We called it and night and will hit it again tomorrow night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Boozer will be here at Southern Bluetick Kennels. I have acquired half interest in Boozer from Seth Penn and plan to hunt him up and finish him to GrNtCh. Boozer goes hunting good and is a stay put tree dog. He will be standing at stud if anyone is interested in his breeding. He is definitely bred to reproduce.
His stud fee will be $150 until he is GrNtCh and then it will go up.

I have been inquiring about Boozer for almost a year now. He has the breeding to fit into what I am doing here. Andy has impressed me as much as anything I have had in awhile and I plan to finish him as well. Drake will probly be handling Boozer for me in the hunts. Got alot of work ahead trying to Finish Cotton to GrNtCh as well. She has been in 3 NtCh casts and has 2 wins. Just gone stay after them.

HUNT

I had a good conversation last night with Mr. Jack Smith over in Mississippi. I want to thank him for helping me out with some information. We are going to try to start up the Mississippi BBOA State Championship Hunt again. It used to be held in Brookhaven, Ms. The old club is no longer active but there is a new club there now. They have some good hunting and I talked to their sec/Treasurer last night and they definaltely want to host the event. More to come later.

My son Drake , my nephew Griffin and myself hunted for a little while last night. I had a scorecard and we held a little hunt to get them boys some practice. I hunted Andy, Drake hunted Cotton and Griffin hunted BB. First drop BB struck, and Andy followed a close 2nd. We were ragging Drake a little as Cotton wasn't struck. BB and Andy worked a track down the bottom and we heard Cotton open deep the other way. BB and Andy both let out a locate. I treed Andy and Griffin treed BB. Wasn't long til they both moved on down bottom a little ways and loaded up right. Griffin got the tree on me. BB first tree and Andy second. We made our way into the tree and it was a den. No coon seen. We pulled them off the tree and walked back to where we had turned loose and Cotton was 800 yds the other way. Garmin showed her treed so we walked up on a small hill and she was knocking the top out. Drake treed her and we headed to her. She was on a huge red oak in the edge of a cutover and her coon was easily spotted. At the end of the first drop the scorecard read,
Cotton 175+
Andy 125-
BB 75-

We moved to a different spot and cut them again. BB struck 1st , Cotton 2nd. Those two were headed down a small creek. Andy got struck about 300 yds to the left going down a beaver pond. All three dogs got split up and weren't together. Andy loaded up about 400 yds around the beaver pond. I treed him and we headed out. We got to his tree and BB came in after the 5 minutes was up. I spotted Andy's coon easily and we handled him and BB. BB drew 100- for coming into a tree with a coon after the 5 minutes was up. We moved back up the hill to hear Cotton locate and load up. Drake treed her and she was 900 yds down a rough old bottom. We finally got to her and she was on a wild cherry tree with two large trees growing all together. We couldn't find her coon and circled her up.
Our hunt was over and Cotton came out on top last night.
Cotton 175+
BB 175-
Andy 50+
We are going to have a couple more of these fun hunts. Helps these young guys learn the rules and we had a good time ragging each other. Gone hit it tonight and see if we can get another sick one treed!!

HUNT

Mr. Jack thanks for the PM with the information. Kelly Adams gave me a call and we are trying to get the wheels rolling on the BBOA Mississippi State Championship hunt.

Drake and I went for a little while last night. First drop I cut Andy loose along with my 6 mth old pup out of Razor and Uchtman's Blue Lady. Andy struck a track in a big patch of blackberries and started moving it thru the hardwoods. It sure wasn't a good track and he was opening here and there. He finally got deep and located and treed. We made our way to him and he was treed on a big water oak in the edge of a pasture full of blackberry bushes. We could never get the coon to look. Next drop I cut Cotton and Cy loose up a small creek bottom. They stayed gone for a good while and I finally heard Cy open a couple of times. I looked at the Garmin and Cy was right handed at 475 yds and Cotton was straight on thru the bottom at about 600 yds. We drove around and got a little closer to both dogs. Cy was struggling with his track and Cotton had not said a word. The silence was broken by a big screaming locate as Cotton just fell treed about 200 yds from us. I cut my little female pup out of the box and we went to Cotton. She was on a bay tree and I finally spotted a tail hanging down right at the top. We got a lot of rain yesterday morning and that ole Bay tree must have had some slick bark on it because that ole coon just fell out right to Cotton and that pup. My pup liked the coon and we made our way to the truck. I ended up calling Cy out to the truck and we called it a night. We are taking off tonight and headed to Lawley on Saturday night to the BBOA youth championship hunt. Drake will hunt Cotton and my Nephew Griffin will hunt Andy. I am blessed with a couple of good young men that love to coonhunt. Maybe not as much as they love the GIRLS but we all been there too!!

BTG if you draw them boys you don't have to jus worry about getting coondoged you have to worry more about the ones handling them. They will put a screwing on you in a heartbeat. They will strike your dog,see coons that ain't there or can't see the ones that are there. Which ever will benefit them. I could go on forever about them. Jus watch your back. Good luck to all that is going. Sure wish I was.

BBOA Youth Nationals

It was a rough night of hunting last. Drake hunted Cotton and ended up on a dead cast. They made a couple trees but couldn't find coons. Griffin hunted Andy and couldn't strike a decent track. Andy finally blowed out of the country and got treed in a pine thicket at the end of the hunt. He had a coon and that was the only coon his cast seen. Andy ended up winning King of the Hunt and got another first place win. Griffin was fired up as this was his first cast win. Good way to get the first one. Andy now has 2 first place wins. We rollod in at 5:15 am. Gone stay on these boys and these ole blueticks.
