Just got off the phone with my nephew.

Queen turned the corner and is doing real good. Talk about a late bloomer. lol I sure am glad to hear that. She started to go from start to finish. He is very happy with her now especially that she doesnt have to live as a pet. I guess if you look at it in weeks, it didnt take too long but having her sit on a chain during off season, it took a long time. I figure hounds were born to hunt and sooner or later, that has to kick in. Its just most people wont wait that long. I do and so does my nephew and his wife. With 2 young kids who love dogs, they cant go and cull because the kids love the dogs. Id say Queen came to the right place and got a chance. What do you think buddy? lol I never had it in me to cull, and keep hunting the dog till they turn out at their pace. In the long run it seems to always work out though. You had said her littermates were late bloomers. I cant remember if this was her second summer or 3rd. I believe second? Take care

Got it

Met the guy with light tonight. Talked for a few minutes about it and checked it out. Said he bought it brand new in march with income tax money and was going to get back into hunting but hasn't had the time so he just decided to get rid of it. Guess it was good timing on my part to find it. Now all we need is some cooler weather so I can break it in looking for some eyes ( but bright enough I'll settle for a tail or anything else)!!!

got a report

on Kid Rock. He has turned it up a notch. They said he was up 10 feet up a tree (pine) trying to pull to bear out.lol Hes had a full season in and is a complte bearhound from start to finish. My nephew said he was dodging the bears swipes while standing on some branches. Had them climb bent over trees but never had one use branches to climb the tree before. You'd be proud of him Steve. Kid has always been a smart dog though.

What? That's crazy she just got to going finally. I sure hate to hear that. She had an All Grand PED, with the top side being straight Fireball. You better look out for Kid Rock to make sure he doesn't get messed up. With him climbing up the trees after them now. I sure wouldn't want something to happen to such a nice hound as he is. That's pretty wild Rock's climbing the trees trying to pull the bears down.

By the way it sounds

she got caught from behind and the bear ran her down. Thats 4 I heard of so far this year. Back to one female here again. Annie is being hunted by a friend. Angel will be bred and so will Annie. Im breeding Annie to Chief Next January. Angel will be in heat next winter about the same time. It will be my first litter in several years. We will keep a female pup to breed to Kid. Will have grand pups from Jabo. Ill make sure Larry Stringer gets choice pup. If you would like one, its free to you also. Chiefs nose is unbelieveable. You wouldnt know him if you saw him. He is all business in the woods. No taking a leak first and rigging everytime to the woods. He's missed 3 trees in close to 200 trees and those were layups and he was one tree off. Id like to get him and Kid together and see how many they could tree in a nite.Kid could always fly on a track and has a very good nose. Its hard for any of them to pull anything on Dozer though. Hes had less experience on coon but is no slouch on coon. He is a joy to handle now also and is also a big baby.lol Ill be looking for a female in the fall to breed Dozer to. Im looking for a certain line and you know what that is. My Ciscoe IV pup is doing great also. Been lucky but these dogs have been hunted alot and they breathe to hunt. Wish I could get more interested in comp hunting but it just isnt in me. My young partner is ready now though. Take care

Laying a track

Boy come fall when it cools off we are going to have to be in the woods!!! This little coon I have is beginning to calm down some but hates having the pup near him. I've laid a track the last 2 evenings with the cage a short distance and out of sight of the pup and hiding it. I can turn the pup out And she will run around for a second but as soon as she hits the trail she's all business pretty surprised with her. Sure wish I didn't have to work so much the next few weeks sure would like to turn your pups and her out to see what they will do. I'll let you know the first chance I get that I can go and maybe you can bring them over and the 4 wheeler and we can turn loose on some of these strips over here.

Hey that's great! Sounds like she might be more of a tracker than ol' Duke was. He was the first hound other than a walker I had seen at that time that was treeing before he was trailing. Now we even have these old Redbones doing that sort of thing. 4-wheeler sounds good too. That's about the only way I'm getting around anywhere much right now is driving. I was laid up for two days just over messing with the pups the other day. Right now I can't hardly sleep, I hurt so bad, even with a full hydro and strong muscle relaxer. I'll be up one night until 5 or later and wake up at 8 and then the next night I'll be so tired from no sleep the night before I can sleep but I rolling back and forth all night then the next night it's back to no sleep again. This really stinks. I'm going in first thing next week to get it all set-up but you know how the VA is even if I just drop everything and go in when they have a cancellation it still may be a month or two. I should be ready ready for the start of season now though.

Man hate that

Sounds like you are having a pretty rough go out of it now. Hopefully they can get you in pretty quick. Even if ya don't I reckon we could probably get around fairly easy over here that you wouldn't have to do any walking. I figured after messing with them the other day you would be laid up for a while it's just hard to not do the things you use to. Your heart wants you to just your body can't handle it.

When's school start back up may come over and visit one day I'm off even though there isn't many of those days this month

Weather looks better

Hey man may try and get together the last weekend of the month if I'm off to hunt. Weather looks like it may try staying a little bit cooler at night and be fairly comfortable to hunt in.

Yeah it sure stinks at times. I want to most every night like I use to, just took Sun. off as you know, but I want to go super bad some nights and there's nothing I can do about it. Hopefully, this next surgery will get me in the woods for a year or so once I recooperate. That should give me enough time to finish Kitty to GrNtCh and I really think Daisy to GrNtCh too. With as little as she has been hunted to look as good as she does I really think she is going to straight blow some nice hounds out, especially if someone messes up and puts me in some thick coon. Well I'm getting off here for now just got in and got everything straightened out from open house at school tonight.

It's all good. I'm sure no show man myself but have definately improved thru the years. That what it takes is time to improve. Same with handling a hound in the woods too. It all just takes time and having someone like Joe around to help ya out is sure nice too. He sure knows what he's doing with those hounds. Tell Travis to just keep after it he'll be keeping up with the big guns before to long. It's a learning experience and keeping the new ones in it is what it's all about. Without the new blood it'd all be gone in a few years.

Yeah it works it just ran out of juice. I got your message. I figured he'd come around. I'm sure glad that you've been there to stick with him. They is no way I could have put this much time in him. I was up at the VA all yesterday and was trying to buy a truck while I was up in the big town and ran the cell phone down. Good thing is I think they got me fixed up.

Hey sounds to good to me. Once I get this neck stuff straight I don't plan on hardly taking a night off again, like back in the day. That should give me plenty of time to finally get the pups really going and finish out Daisy in the woods. I think I've got someone to handle Kitty so she might be finished to GrNtCh before I get recovered from the surgery but for sure I plan to finish her after that. Good thing is the cool weather is starting to show up and I've got some new stuff from the VA.

Busy week.

Started off the week at school, then party for the kids at church for our back to school bash, then was all locked up from my neck stuff on thurs. so I couldn't do a thing but sit here. Well I finally made it to the VA on Fri. The doctors gave me some new stuff that is made for seizures patients that helps slow down the nervous system so that the pinched nerves weren't flared up as bad. They also switched my pain meds to some stronger stuff and I've still got the strong muscle relaxers. I was in such bad shape that they put my MRI with die added in on urgent priority. So I should have that out of the way pretty soon, it's the first step toward surgery. With the new meds for the first time in almost 3 weeks I am not in severe pain, my muscles have relaxed and I got a full 8 hours of sleep, a first in 3 weeks. Hurray for the VA!

So Dusty when you get ready to go just let me know. I'll ride the 4-wheeler and let you get em off the tree. You know these girls will show ya some coon.

Clarification

Seems there are some people that are aweful confused or just don't know much about dogs. This is a Siberian Laika, next to the pup from me. These Laikas are high dollar even as pups, squirrel dogs. The guy that has these also has two of my pups from the Daisy x Harry cross. His buddy has the other one from this cross that is doing so well and he called me about getting ahold of some of this. He's got the perfect place to train hounds and sure knows what he's doing so it's yet another place these young hounds have ended up that I'm really looking forword to things in the future on.

There are actually several hair lengths on the laika's so pretty sure it's just another one of them. One things for sure it's not a collie either.

How about one of these nights

Im off the weekend of the 31st if you feel up to it we could turn these pups out and see what they will do. I've been working with mine with a drag and she's starting to put it together just need to get her in the woods some now.

Let me know if you think you will feel up to it and we will get something together

heres a

Norwegian Elkhound. We had one a long time ago. Supposed to be a squirrel dog but was just a pet. These were popular in the 80s. Somehow a friend of mine ended up with all kinds of dog people didnt want. That was when people sold dogs to research companies so they could be used for test purposes. I never believed in that crap and they should use convicts for that.

I'll drive the 4 wheeler and should be fine. However, I'm going to pick up a new farm truck this coming weekend. The one we have now works fine but I have to work on it every so often. We're getting what would be a little much for most for a part time farm truck but should be something I shouldn't have to work on. 2002 Dodge 1500 4x4 extended cab, leather, and power everything, with the old 5.9 gas burner in it. It'll be a big step up from the old 1992 Chevy 4x4 single cab. Then after that I should be back and ready. With these new meds I am in so much less pain but the seizure meds have me kind of off balance. I probably won't take those if we go but will keep them on me in case we are out to late. These are about like my muscle relaxers it's so strong it has all kinds of bad side effects if you miss taking them.
