Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out alone tonight. First drop she went in about 350 yrds and struck a cold track. She worked it on in an next to the road that I was on and treed. I rode up until I was even with her and walked in to her. She was treed up an oak tree. I shined the tree, but I never could get him to look. Sheba said he was there and that was good enough for me. We went on down the swamp and dropped Sheba out again and she struck a good track and rolled it out of there. She pushed it on in for about 750 yrds and treed. I hit another road that went into the swamp and toward the river and got to within about 75 yrds of her and walked on in to her. It was pretty thick in there where she was at. She was teed up a huge Cypress. I finally found a spot where I could see part of the tree and he was sitting there looking at me. I petted Sheba up and we left this one to run again. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out alone again last night. We had some rough weather here early last night, so I waited till after midnight to go. The coons seemed to be moving good. !st drop she went in about 150 yrds and just fell treed. I walked in to her and she was treed on a medium sized oak, just across a slough. I couldn't see much of the tree from the side I was on, so I waded the slough and found an open spot on the other side and when I shined the tree he was looking down at me. I peted Sheba up and we left this one to run again. I crossed back across the slough and started back toward the 4-wheeler and Sheba started winding scent in the air. I figured it might be the coon we just left. I unsnapped her and away she went. She went about 30 yrds and hit a hot track and moved it out of there. She went back across the road that I had the truck parked on and headed on in toward bad country, but she was driving him pretty hard and he didn't quite make it to the bad part. She locked up treed about 400 yrds in. I rode around on another road and got to within about 75 yrds of her and walked on in. She was treed up a large pine. It was real thick in there and I walked around until I found an opening and when I hit the squaller it looked at me. I petted Sheba up and we walked back to the 4-wheeler and moved on down the swamp. I dropped Sheba off again and she took off, and shortly after I turned her loose I reached for my Garmin and it was not in its pouch. I looked all over the 4-wheeler to see if I had laid it on it. It was not there so I knew I had lost it. The last time I could remember looking at it was when I walked out on the road at the truck while Sheba was running that last coon she treed, so I rode back to the truck to be sure I had not left it there. It was not there so I knew that I had lost it somewhere around that last tree, so I went back there and back tracked my self in to the tree and walked around the tree to where I had shinned the coon and there it was laying on the ground. I guess I had forgotten to put the little strap on it and it had slipped out of the pouch on my vest. I was sure glad to find it. By the time I had gotten back to where I had turned Sheba loose she was working a cold track close to another road. I rode around there and she was treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a medium sized oak. I shined it but I never could get to where I could see the top of it and there were no vines on it. I leashed Sheba and we walked back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Sheba 11

Me and Sheba had us an easy hunt tonight. A friend of mine wanted us to come get some coons off their Deer feeders. Dropped her out at first feeder and she went by the feeder and went about 15 yrds outside the deer plot and locked up treed. 1 coon off the deer feeders. Dropped her off at the second feeder, didn't get a strike at the feeder. Sheba went on into the swamp and struck a cold track, moved it on in 175 yrds and treed. Walked in to her and she was treed up a persimmon tree and it was loaded with persimmons. I did not see a coon there. Dropped her off at the third feeder and she struck right off the feeder and treed within 20 yrds of the feeder. would have been a good night to have been hunting a pup, as soon as I shined my light in the tree the coon was looking at me. We called it a night after this one. I'll start Gin 11 soon and I'll carry her down there, That will do her good.

Thank you Steve and all the others that wished me well on my eye surgery, Everything went well.

SEEING

Glad that surgery went well and you back in the woods. Sounds like your finding more coon in those trees now that you can see better. Those feeders will be a great place to get Gin 11 going. Give me a shout when you want to get together for a hunt, Take Care.

Sheba 11

Sheba and I had another good hunt tonight, not quite as easy as the last one hunting on those deer feeders, but she did a good job. Turned her loose on an ole slough and she moved in 150 yrds opened a couple of times and if I had been on a competition hunt with her tonight she would have been 250 points in the hole pretty quick. because usually when she loads up that is the end of it, but tonight
she loaded up for about 1 minute and got quite. I looked at the Garmin and she was on the move. She opened 3 or 4 times in about 75 yrds and loaded up again. She hit that tree about 5 or 6 barks and then was gone again. She moved another 100 yrds like she was looking to catch and loaded up again. This time she did not move again. I don't know where the coon was jumping out or what. I had never seen her do this, usually when she trees that's the end of it. I rode up a woods road until I was even with her and walked in to her. She was treed up a medium sized oak and I saw the coon before I got to the tree. He was nervous and moving around. I leashed Sheba and we left this one to run again. We moved on down the swamp and dropped her off again. She went in about 200 yrds and struck a working track and started moving it on up the swamp. She moved it on in another 300 yrds and loaded up treed. Again I went up a woods road until I was even with her and walked in to her. She was treed up a medium sized tuplar gum. When I got there I had to just stop and look around at this beautiful place in gods creation. I don't know I may see things different than a lot of others, but places like this with the big Cyprus, Oaks and all the others with the mud and water and the Cyprus knees. God put it all togeather to make a beautiful place, and that bluetick hound treed in the middle of it all didn't hurt anything either. I saw the coon sitting up there looking. We called it a night after this one.

Gods creation

Beautiful picture and I'm like you that when I come upon a scene like that I take some extra time to take in the beauty of Gods Creation. Love places like that. Sounds like she was after a Sow with young and as the young went up she located and treed a little but moved on until she treed the last one up which was the Sow and that's why the coon was nervous, worried about those little ones. First time BO did that I was wondering what the heck was going on. When he finally settled on the 3rd tree and I saw two young coon setting up on the way to him I figured it out. He trees the Last Coon Up. Sounds like it runs in the family. They check the tree and if the track went on they move on. Don't happen to me but a few times a year in August and September. Glad to be reading your stories again Mr. Jack and hope you feeling 100%, Take Care.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out for a run tonight. Turned her off an ole woods road. She went in 250 yrds and struck a working track and moved it out. She moved it northeast down a slough for about 500 yrds and turned north and I knew he was headed to about a 20 acre cutover. When he got there I figured he would make a few rounds in it like he usually does, but he didn't. He went through it and crossed another woods road and on toward the River. I knew there was a small lake to the south of where Sheba was at and she turned north east again and headed toward it. Just before she got there she locked up treed. I started toward her on a woods road that was going in her direction. She was treed just below where the terrain drops off into a lower part of the swamp. I could still hear Sheba treeing with the 4-wheeler running. About the time I stopped the 4-wheeler, The coon must have jumped out, for Sheba tore out of there like she was trying to catch. She went about 200 yrds and locked up treed again. This lower part of the swamp that I was in now was a cutover. There was only hedge bushes about 15 to 20 feet high with some big oak trees scattered in there. I guess they had left them for seed. Sheba was treed up one of these Oaks and you could not see anything for the hedge bushes. I leashed Sheba and we made our way out of there. We moved on down the swamp and turned Sheba loose again. She went in about 175 yrds and struck a cold track, moved it on in about 250 yrds and treed. I went in to her and she was treed up a large hickory nut tree that was leaning into another large hickory nut tree. I shinned the trees and he could have easily have been there, but I think she had missed it. We made our way back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.

Mr. Jack,
I sure would like to make a hunt with you one of these nights. I can visualize all the places you write about in your post, but really would love to see them in person. I’m on a turnaround now and will be working 6 days a week till thanksgiving. So if you have a free night after that I sure would like to take a ride up to your country.

Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out for a run tonight, Turned her off an ole woods road along an ole dried up slough. We had a lot of rain back a little earlier this year, but it has done got dry now. Sheba went in 300 yrds and struck a working track, and worked it on in to about 500 yrds and locked up treed. I made my way into her and she was treed up a large oak tree on the edge of a drainage ditch. It was real thick in there with the lower limbs of the oak extending out into the hedge bushes on the other side of the drainage ditch. I found a couple of spots that I could see some of the tree. I didn't see the coon, but I saw the limbs moving up in a part of the tree that I couldn't see, so I'm pretty sure she had him. We moved on down near the river. Dropped Sheba off again and she moved in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track, moved it on in another 200 yrds and locked up treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a huge Cyprus. I found an opening and could see one side of the tree pretty good, but if he was there he was on the other side of the tree or he just wasn't looking. We loaded up and called it a night.

Praying for the ones in the path of Hurricane Matthew.

Gin 11 with Sheba 11

Took Gin 11 out tonight with Sheba. I was really amazed at how well she did on her first trip to the woods. No she didn't split off and tree a couple of coons by her self or anything like that, but she did leave there when I turned her loose with Sheba I watched her on the Garmin as they made about a 400 yrd circle and came back by and never stopped. They went on in another 200 yrds and struck a working track and Gin was opening good with a good mouth. I watcher them as they crossed a woods road and kept on moving. I have to admit Iwas a little worried about what they were running, because the action was beginning to pick up, and Gin was really beginning to like it. a couple of times they broke down and Gin got the pick up and Gin would have to hustle to catch up. They were going thru some 20 yr. old planted pines. They crossed a drainage ditch and moved on into another section of planted pines. I was glad when I heard Sheba lock up Treed. Gin did not tree with her, but I had seen her checking a couple of trees with Sheba when they made a loose. Sheba was treed up a gum that went up into a large pine. It was hard to see any part of the pine for the other trees. I didn't see him, but I'm pretty sure she had him for they drove him in there pretty good. I like what Gin did on her first hunt, but I will wait till we get a little moisture on the ground before I carry her back out. It has done got dry here.

Mr. Steebers, Thank you for the compliment on Sheba.

Mr. Tommy let me know when you get ready to go hunting, Your always welcome.

Bill and Dutch

Good to hear from you Bill. Glad everything is working out where you and ole Dutch can get back in the woods. It's about time foryou to think about getting a replacement for ole Dutch. I wish these ole dogs would last forever, but they want. It will be good to get you back on the board and hear some of your hunting tales and see some good pictures of Dutch doing his thang. Take care.

Gin II

Mr. Jack,
Looks like before long you will have another coon dog on your hands. I had a boy send me a video of a young Tramp II pup treed also. I think Tramp II is going to reproduce if his young pups are an indication. Safe hunting and good luck with the dogs.
Scott
