YEA DARREN DRAKE IS 9 AND GAGE IS 6. BOTH OF THEM HAVE BIG PLANS FOR WEDGE AND THE 2 PUPS THAT WE'RE KEEPING OUT OF LOGAN AND DIXIE. THEY HAVE BOTH TOLD ME THAT THESE 3 PUPS ARE THE NEXT WORLD CHAMPIONS 1 FOR EACH YEAR FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT ALL BY THERE SELVES. I NEED TO FIND THEM EACH A PAIR OF HIP BOOTS AND BUY THERE LIGHTS FROM GERALD EVERETT BEFORE THE CORN COMES IN. SEE IF YOU CAN FIND US SOME BOOTS AT A FAIR PRICE BECAUSE THE WAY THEY ARE GROWING BOTH OF THEM WILL OUT GROW THE BOOTS BEFORE A YEAR IS UP. THANKS TRENT

HUNT

Hunted for a little while last night. First drop we cut Cotton and Andy loose. My cousin came along and turned his 5 mth old English pup loose too. Cotton struck a sorry track and Andy put in with her. They beat around on it for awhile and got it lined out pretty good. Andy soon loaded up followed by Cotton. We made our way into the tree and I soon spotted the coon. One of the guys with us also spotted a rattlesnake. We dispatched him and he was one that will send a few chill bumps down your back. Over 5 ft long with 7 rattles and a button.
We petted up the dogs and recut. Cotton struck followed by Andy. Andy was not with Cotton and headed across the bottom. Cotton headed down the bottom and was drifting out pretty good. I soon heard her load up at about 500 yds in the swamp. We headed to her and my cousin spotted the coon. We petted her up and drove around to find Andy. He was coming down the creek and I ended up catching him before he got in a BAD swamp. It was 11:30 and that would have made for a long night for sure. Gone get after them again tonight!! HUNT

Hunted by myself last night. First drop I cut Cotton and Jim loose in the bottom. Cotton headed straight in the bottom and Jim went right. Cotton soon struck a feed track and started working it out of the bottom and into the hills. Jim ended up coming out on a gravel road about 500 yds across the bottom. I drove around and picked him up. Cotton was checking trees and gave me some half-hearted locates but was still moving on up in the hills. She soon gave me that huge screaming locate and settled in on the tree. I got to her and she was on a pecan tree. I looked for a while and couldn't find him but I saw two coons about 3 trees over to her right in another pecan tree. She may have just missed them on that old feed track. I loaded her up and moved over to the creek. I cut Andy and Cy down the creek. Andy struck in at about 900 yds and started working a track down the creek. Cy opened a little but seemed to be a cold track. I had to start walking to get in better hearing and soon heard Andy load up about 1000 more yds from me. I headed to him and he was in the middle of a pasture. There were 3 large water oak trees out there in the pasture and he was up a huge one. Cy was still opening down on the creek. I started searching the tree and thought I heard thunder, but it was just a stampede!! A large herd of cows came charging into the tree but stopped about 50 yds from where Andy was treed. Made it fun to shine the tree for sure. It was so foggy I couldn't see anything but eyes all around us. I shouted at them and they left out the other way. I backed way off the tree and soon spotted the coon. Andy did an excellent job on that coon. He has improved drastically and continues to adapt to my hunting territory. I am really liking what I see in him. Good looking, hard going, good mouth, good tree dog, and bred up right. I have seen his coons on every tree for the past couple of weeks. Hopefully he is going to fill a void here at the kennel. Got the dogs fed and rolled in at 12:15 am. Got up a 5:15 so I'm glad it is Friday. Hunted late for the past two nights. That time of the year.

I'm pretty much used to these ole Cottonmouths and Copperheads. We are covered up in those suckers. I just knock'em in the head with a stick but this sucker just sends a chill up your spine. First rattlesnake I have ever seen or killed coonhunting. Don't want to meet up with any of his kinfolk a but they will get the same fate as him!!!

Hunted Andy in a UKC hunt last night. We didn't have a great hunt and I costed Andy the hunt. I treed him on a half hearted locate on a sorry track and he moved on down the bottom. A walker gyp did the same and moved as well. Andy ended up treeing the only coon we saw last night but I didn't even tree him because there was no way for me to win. A little black gyp came in and backed him as well as the other two dogs. Coon seen. Oh well, we are still learning about each other and you will see us in the winners circle before long.

Oh yeah that ain't the first time I messed up. Usually pretty laid back but got aggressive and blowed up. Andy tore off his toenail sometime last night. His foot is swelled up bad. Whole nail is gone and just has a hole there. Anyone had any experience with this. How long to heal up? Darren

Darren, how old is your Jobe x Magic pup now? I saw the video you posted of him on the Blaze thread. He is making a nice tree dog already. I am getting a female pup out of Blaze and Ben Smith's Thumper female in a few weeks. I hope she turns out.

My pup is 8 mths old. He doesn't have everything figured out yet but he is a tree dog if he can smell it. He is independent and has started opening more on track. he treed before he ever opened on a track.
I have a full brother to Blaze that I call Andy. I am partners with Gary Uchtman on him. He is a nice hound. I have had him about 4 weeks now. He was hunted about 5 times in 6 mths when I got him but he has steadily improved. I really like what I see out of him. We are still getting used to each other but I have seen him do good work. Good Luck with your pup out of Blaze. Blaze seems to be a really nice hound with the tools we all look for in a hound. I am thinking seriously about breeding Cotton to Jobe at some point soon.

HUNT

Hunted for a little while last night. Andy has a sore foot from the toenail that he ripped out. Gone stand him up for a day or two. I took Cotton and Cy. First drop Cotton hit a track about 100 yds in the bottom and opened here and there for about 100 more yards and loaded up right. Drake and I made it in to the tree. She had left the bottom and treed up on side of the hill. After a little while shaking wet vines, we finally got him to look. We cut them off that tree and Cotton struck another one of those tracks. She made her way 400 yds down the bottom and soon loaded up treed again. We got to the tree and she was up a pine tree with a nest in it. We never could get the coon to look. Cy was off doing his own thing so we cut Cotton towards him. Cotton never said a word and went about 200 yds and just fell treed up a big sweet gum tree. Drake spotted the coon pretty quick. Cotton did a good job last night. It was spitting rain the whole time we hunted. Cy is getting independent and likes to do his own thing. He is just starting to open on the ground some. He is 8 mths old and has treed a couple easy coons alone. Hopefully he will get it all put together soon. Donny McCane came from Kentucky yesterday and picked up Cy's sister. I hope she makes him a good one. He seemed like a good hunter and an nice guy. Good Luck with her Donny!! I let Keith Sparks have half interest in my Sadie Mae female. Keith is a good hunter and can put some pressure on her. I am going to put the pressure on Cy for a little while and I have 3 five month old pups that I will have to get started soon.

Sounds like you've got everything working good for you. I had a dog loose a toe nail one time. It gave him trouble for a while. I kept antibiotics on it and it finally healed up. Sounds like your Cotton female is really nice. I enjoy reading your thread.

Thanks Jack, I appreciate it. Cotton is making a nice hound. She still struggles on some nights when coons aren't moving well, but if you put her in coons, she will tree coons. I really like her heart and drive. I will be hunting her progeny in the future. I like reading your thread as well. I like to see someone tell the good and bad on here and not just sugar coat things to make the dog look better. I tell it like it happens and that's it.

Drake and myself went for a little while last night. My cousin came along and brought his English pup. I had a buddy drop off a coon he had caught and we took it and cut it across a big field. I had my Cyclone pup and we waited about 15 minutes and cut him and the English pup loose. Ole Cy hit the track and left out but only opened a couple times. It wasn't long til I heard him locate and load up. He is a tree dog and I let him tree for a little while. I got to him and he did have the coon. Somehow the coon fell out really alive and feisty. I will give ole Cy some credit, he has some grit and wouldn't back off that ole coon much. He finally dispatched him and we laid a drag for the English pup. She whimpered around but never really fired up on it.
Next drop I cut Cotton, Cyclone and the pup loose in the bottom. Cotton didn't go far and just fell treed. She had a coon. Cy was on down the bottom and we cut Cotton to him. Cotton struck a track that didn't seem too good. She moved it on out and made a big circle and came towards us. She soon loaded up treed and we got to the tree. It was a really woolly tree with lots of undergrowth. We couldn't see much of the tree and never got the coon to look. We called it a night and put up the hounds. Got home early at 11:30pm. Got my oldest son's graduation tonight so I guess the hounds and I will get a break. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!! Darren

NtCh Pr Southern Blue Frost Hollow BB

Terry Tibbs and I after much debate decided to breed BB too Mickey Gilmore's ChNtCh Pr Rook's Bangin Blue Judge. Judge is out of Tree Slamming Hillbilly and has a shot of Jet 6 and Uchtman on bottom with his mom being Lawreson's Blue Ellie gyp. BB is a grandpup of Hillbilly on top and double Jet 6 on bottom. Should be a good cross.
