Hunters, Smoke's pups are answering the ? On how he's gonna reproduce !! The breeder of Smoke and many other top hounds in both registries and also the owner of Grntch PKC Sch Skippers Unforgiven Saige "Mr. Derek Peterman " stated a year ago when we started to stud and advertise Smoke that if Smoke is given the chance and gets the volume of females that some get "Smoke would be a Top Reproducing Stud " and have a positive effect on the breed !!! By the reports coming in on a steady basis I must say Derek is absolutely correct

Mike,

I had some issues come up and haven't had my pup out since I last posted here. My buddy caught a coon in a cage and we turned it loose for the pups. He struck it, ran it, treed it, ALONE! If I can't get my issues resolved, I will put him in the hands of someone that can hunt him. Nice pup!

Dan- that's a nice looking pup heading to VA. How is he bred? What part of VA?


We have been hunting hard this past week or so. Swag has been holding his own. Went with 4 NICE hounds Friday night. He split twice from 75 yards to 400 yards with the coon both times while the other dogs had a possum, a pine and two slicks. Not shabby for a 16 month old pup. It's nice to hunt a dog that you can load the gun when he trees! This is from the first split Friday night. We couldn't hear the other dogs for him treeing! He's up to about 75 lbs and he has the amp to back it up.



We went again Sunday night. Swag struck a track off the tailgate and treed about 200 yards away. He treed ahead of the old dogs by about 30 seconds and had another big coon. It's been hit and miss here and it's that time of year where the coons are scarce since they are about to have the little ones. Many of the tracks we strike end up long and cold with the dogs cold trailing along and will end up treeing most of the time in a den. We have ran three different tracks over the last 2 weeks that went at least 3/4 mile long from the time they struck to the time they treed. Both of my dogs have been doing pretty well showing us coons on the outside despite that. Swag's looked extra good, especially for a young dog. He ought to be really tough when the kittens start stirring around.

When he is on it's almost surreal to hunt him. I like him.

Put Swag in his 3rd hunt last night after being laid up all week since he had a bum leg.

He got deep (0.71 miles) and treed a coon during timeout by himself. Then he split in a den by himself. He got off by himself at the end and had a track going but ran out of time. We ended up with a score of zero which would have been the CW in the other KC. The other dogs in the cast were well into negative points. He's been in 3 casts and has not taken any minus (knock on wood). His time is coming!

Ronnie- we should get together again before too long. I'll hunt Swag this time. You're more than welcome to head up this way any night.

Swag is hitting his stride. Took him again Saturday night with my old dog. The sows are laid up down here but we are still treeing a few wild ones. On the first drop Swag struck a good track and both dogs ran it hot around the edge of a pond and into a hole. On the next drop they got fairly deep and I heard swag open a few times. He ran the track the opposite direction from my old dog and proceeded to get treed about 900 yards from where we turned him loose. It took us about 30 minutes to get to him and meanwhile my old dog treed about 500 yards away from Swag but in the same hollow. When we got to Swag he had a good sized coon in his tree. My other dog also had a big coon in his tree. It seems like the tracks we strike over the past few weeks are either are a complete pop up or a long hot race with nothing in between. This coming fall should be a very good time for Swag if he keeps going in direction he is now. He's making a big dog- 75 lbs easily. Is he loud?- On the cast the other night we hadn't heard anything for a while then Swag lets one fly and one guy on the cast says "Good Lord what was THAT!"




I see there's a smoke pup floating around out of Jazzy. I'd LOVE to have a female out of that cross but I've got my hands full. How are the rest of them doing?
