Now feeder bucket banning would be nice. I like the Nt. Ch. hunt off idea given to us by Flint. I also would not mind seeing ukc give the clubs a little bit more slack and let them vote on a 60 or 90 minute hunt. I cannot see having 3 hr. hunts anymore, most of you guys must have more land to hunt they we do around here. I bet if we had held a three hr. cast and your treeing coons and calling time out to move to other spots, all the cast would come back in without hunting the 3 hrs. or at least in our area that would be the case. Again not enuff land in this area to do it. * Except if I hunted the rough straight up and down mountains here and in 3 hrs. you might tree one coon in that 3 hrs., so I don't see how the cream would rise to the top by doing that.

If you got coon and dogs that hunt for coon and dont blow out of the country you can have a decent score in a hour i'v scored 400+ 450+ on wild coon your dog has got to have its own head and not just doing what the rest are

Hi there, complete newbie on here but I'm looking to get back into UKC hunting after taking ohhhh roughly 25 years off from the sport.
so please understand that I am looking @ this from a very old school point of view.
I like the 2 hour hunts.
But I can also see the benefits of a one hour hunt from a time/money stand point.
However I believe the best answer may be some where in the middle. How about a 60 or 90 Friday night hunt with cast winners slugging it out on Saturday night, while the non cast winners and anyone who couldn't make it on Friday cast out on Saturday night. Saturday night is a two hour hunt with the Saturday night "regular" hunt paying regular points but the cast winners from Friday fighting for double points.
It turns a hunt into a whole weekend thing, gives the people willing to play on Friday night a chance for bonus points while preserving the sanctity of the traditional Saturday night hunts.

And again

The rules allow it Joe. A rigidly enforced scratch for babbling would take care of that. The modified point system for 1 hour hunts would also take more cast wins to finish out to a title even combined with wins on 2 hour hunts if 1 ntch. win in a 2 hour hunt was a requirement & some form of placement for registered in a 2 hour was required, but would bring participitation up in some areas. 2 hour weekend hunts only with full points awarded. I just don't see why anyone thinks it wouldn't work if clubs weren't being required to hold 1 hour, but letting them have them if they want them & not over saturating them. We all know that some dogs aren't what we would ever consider being worthy of holding a GrNtCh title today compared to what GrNtCh was a few years ago to begin with & lots of hunters go to the hunts simply because they're competitive & not necessarily because their dogs are. I just don't understand why it wouldn't work. I aslo can't agree more with Walker1. The me tooing thing in UKC is pretty bad anyway, but not near as bad as a few years ago with a lot of serious breeders breeding for independence to begin with. I personally have hunted a bunch of UKC hunts over the years & several PKC & have saw way more independent get to themselves & have the meat coondogs by far in PKC period.

IMO keep the UKC hunt times the way they are.

Lessoning hunt times, breeding for treeing power and allowing feeder buckets in hunts are the reason the tracking ability has been all but bred out of many lines today.

one hour hunts

Don't know if "dan" will get there but there is not doubt that he and his hound can handle it.

I know in our area a 3 hr. hunt is almost impossible to do, because we do not have enuff land. I hope you guys have enuff property to hunt 180 minutes because the dog that wins that then probably is a True Coondog! Only place we might have is the straight up and down mountain chain here and that would be no different than a 2 hr. hunt, you will be looking for dogs for the whole time, because of the hearing situation and especially if they go over the mountain. Then your in for a walk of over 3 hrs.
But, I sure am still hoping Allen at UKC could be looking at this, to guide us in a direction of who to talk to about a 60 or 90 minute hunt.
