ZONE 5. A post above says Darlington, KY. That is wrong. This zone will be held in Darlington S.C. Should be a very good hunt, and i believe the turn out will be a strong one also. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Oh the hunting is so tough in the South lol my butt. Maybe you never hunted in the North but guess what, we got rivers, creeks, mountains, swamps (yeh even in southern MI) ponds, big lakes and cut overs, and crap hole places too !!!

One thing you have is swimming water hunting and yes that might make a difference but other than that a coon smells the same in the West, East, North or South

The one thing that does make a major inpact is the ability to get more than 1 coon treed. Make a bad call and if you can't recover and make another tree or get 2 treed off by yourself then you have lost the hunt. Yes we have good coon numbers, but they don't graze, they don't just lay around the fields ready to be treed and not every cast will see 100 coon in a 2 hour hunt

Seems to me the top 20 dogs when it was held in King and Tenn came from the North, might be because states like IN have more coon hunters in it than say GA ??? Don't know but seems the Northern Dogs did pretty good in them Southern locations ??

Simple thinig to remember - Coon Dog is spelled the same both in the North as it is in the South LOL

Very well said!

Hillarious

No one has even mentioned it being easier in one area or another. The climate maybe harder on the people and or the dogs. God luck to all that give it a shot. Before I got knotted up over something I believe I would get qualified.

Will you be there hunting? Nobody knows... It is a fact I won't be because there is no reason to qualify a dog for me. I can't take 3 or 4 days off of work to have the hunt postponed due to another hurricane Katrina. Is there even a plan in place, or would we just not have a world champion for 2012 due to another hurricane like Katrina? I'm not bashing anyone or asking for anyone to "wonder why I am not there", just being REALISTIC!

Same old story every year some one always complaining about where the world hunt is going to be. If you don't want to go then don't but don't come on here and BI#@#$CH. Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope and they got to tie the knot.

Really, the only problem I have with the location is the expense of traveling 1100 miles and 4 nights in a motel but no matter where you have it , some will have to deal with that kind of expense or more. So this year, if we can get there, it's our turn to shell out some major expense. I think it will be harder to qualify our dog than to cover the expense. As for hurricanes, I don't think I will lay awake at night worrying about that.

WOW!!

I AGREE WITH WHAT MOST ARE SAYING A COON DOG IS A COON DOG ANY WHERE!! IF WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WE ARE COMING DOWN. ONLY ONE PROBLEM IS MOST OF YOU SEEING ME IN A PAIR OF SWIMMING TRUNKS. FIRST THING TO PREPAIR IS LEARN TO SWIM. THEN WORRY ABOUT THE DOG.

I like it

Ukc will have a nice clean non water spot for the final four and most spots will be out of the water. The only problem is I've always is make it right in the central because you never know when you will make it to the finals and it aint fair to dog say in North Dakota to get in and make that long drive just like some guys from south driving up north. Now if the final four is in waste deep water you can bet your hide a local dog or water type dog will win it, Not many dogs can tree coons in water, but I don't see allen walking around in waste deep water all night reporting the score back, lol. But lets face it, the world hunt has been up north and central for years and years, it time to share it back a little.

bring your froglegs and a peet boot dryer. worrying about gators and snakes is an excuse anyway you look at it. high humidity and standing swamp water will take its toll on more dogs and handlers than anything. tote plenty of hydration with ya. oh ya and Rock you made some great points on this thread.

This is not the LA everyone has on their mind. Its 5 hours from the coast and its like hunting Arkansas or Mississippi. No Cajuns in that area unless they moved there. All Katrina gave that area was heavy rain and im going to guess you get that in Indiana too.

Water

Its seldom to have maore than ankle deep water in most areas up here in September. There are some beaver ponds and sloughs. This area of the state has mixed terrain and mixed timber and a few wet areas. Winter time you can get into some water or you can steer clear of it. On the subject of Katrina, we didn't get much of anything off of it. Rita brought us heavy rain and wind. I'm sure in UKC history there have been hunts affected by severe weather. Life goes on as well as hunts.

Yall ever look and see how far it is from Ga to up north where the big hunts have been. I'll tell ya. It ain't close lol. If my dog was right and ready. Id go no matter where they had it. From here on till Aug. Everybody knows where its at. They don't have to try and qualify if they think they can't afford to go. Coon hunting ain't a cheap sport. Folks should know this. Every hunt can't be held in everybodys back yard.

The Northern states will see a huge decrease in RQE entries. Lets not forget we are in a mess as a country.

I agree it needs to be moved but darn that far? Almost out of the US furthest away from where the majority of coonhunters are.

There's alot of people that would love to be able to go that just in reality won't be able to.

There will be upset people no matter where it is an i'm sure everyone agrees with that. But the location of choice doesn't make much sense to me.

yes but...

late fall that far south=no coon, dry, hot, and low scores.

smarter to have it north with leaves OFF.cooler temps will be better for dogs and handlers too.better coon population, better hunting, less walking for split tree.alot more turn outs and alot better chance to score!!

why spend 1 hour walking to score dogs that are split 1/2 mile apart on 1 drop?burn up the 2 hr clock fast.
when in the north we split feet apart?get in, get treed, get scored, get out........leaves off will seperate the coondog from the coon hound.
jmo.
