Can that coon dawg not tree hot pop ups to, if they are every were up north then how can the coon dawg loose? If he runs under a tree with a coon in it that just went up he should tree it thats what a hot nose dog is going to do. The ? is does your dog tree the first coon up or the 2nd one? Thats what most of the dogs that trail 1/2 the night are doing anyway. If the coons are all over the place then why is your dog going to get beat by a hot nose dog?If you are in thick coon and have a "cold nose dog" you should have no problem with a pop up dog and if you do you need to take a closer look at what is on the end of your chain.

Joey, I dont know who your talking to but I'll answer your question. My dog most defenitly trees the second coon up, or the third of fourth or whatever it takes. SHe dont run all night as a general rule either. If there are two or 3 coons running together she's not gonna stay hooked until there is absolutly no coon scent leaving and going away from that tree. In other words she checks. SHe aint no quick tree dog. She wants the last coon in the gang up a dang tree and then thats where she trees. I have listnend to some good races an seen a whole pile of coons with her. She dont usually run a really long time either. If she's in there opening on track longer than 45 minutes she AINT RUNNIN NO COON. And no she aint perfect. LOL LOL LOL LOL Or thats just the way its been for me around here with her.

Baldwian1997,
I'm not downing your dog but you cant win the world with a dog that trees the 2nd coon up it just doesnt work. I have two dogs I hunt one that will tree the 2nd coon and I love the dog I even placed in the top 20 of the world hunt. The problem is the 2nd coon up thing is the reason she didnt go any further. I have a female out of her that trees the 1st coon and yes she checks and has the coon on most of the trees she makes. The point is if I ever take her I would think I could place a little higher. I just get tired of the bad mouthing and complaning about a pop up dog when the simple fact is if they are treeing more coons they deserve the win.

Joey, your probably right. I couldtn win the world hunt for other reasons too but we wont discuss that right now. However, I guess your from up North like most of the rest of these fellows on here(above Tennessee) . Anyway, Theres one little catch to what you said about the 2nd coon up and all that down here where I hunt. IN MOST PLACES DOWN HERE THE 2ND COON UP IS THE LAST COON UP. By this I mean the coon are EXTREMELY THIN IN COMPARISON TO WHAT IS UP NORTH FROM EVERYTHING I BEEN TOLD. Most of the time 225 plus is gonna easily win the cast and could win the whole hunt. On average anyway. IF you got 3 or 4 dogs all split treed down here and they all have a coon in there tree. YOUR GONNA WALK ALL NIGHT. THATS A FACT.

I think Wisconsin is pretty nice except for those hills.
I like Minnesota or Iowa a little better because they are flatter.
Indiana & Illinois seem nice & flat too.
This is getting more important to me all the time.

World Hunt

They had a big hunt at Hillsboro,Ohio back in the 1960's, it was held at the fair grounds, they called it- The Coon Hunters Reunion, i think it was put on by Bill Boatman, and some other guys. I'd say a long about the middle of December, with no leaves on, just coon, would be nice.

No Im from Arkansas, but I'v hunted up north and didnt see all the coons they talk about. Most of the time two coons will win a hunt here ,but at the world you dont have to score big just win every cast with plus points and you got your self a world champ.

A coondog should be a coondog no matter where you drop them. PERIOD! And as far as the leaves are concerned, you will usually find'em if they are there! Location should only be about being in a place where as many hunters as possible can participate, without having to travel extremely far to do it. So, I would be for a central location, same spot, year after year.

interesting............

look at the addresses of folks responding to this.............seems like there's some southern boys that wouldn't mind havin' it up north where the coon are thick as ants...................but it seems NO northerners wanna come down here where it might be a little rough.............why is that??

A Coondog is a coondog. If people are going to take the time to huntin the world and spend the money. Why not make it a area where you score 5-6 coon. why would people want to hunt down south and score one coon when there where only one coon and the next cast scored two coon and another didnt score any at all. And for the trash thing those little shell things shouldnt distract a realcoondog. Im sure you have deer down there but Im sure alot southern dogs would bump one easily when you constantly see 10 15 deer in one spot. I really dont care where its at But i would prefer it to be centrally lacated and That way its fair for everyone.

Cody..........

very few casts down here don't see a coon...........it's just that the dogs have to WORK to tree 1,2,or 3 in two hours.........I guess you answered my above question.........ps-the deer densities in my county are between 60-80 per square mile........we have a deer or two.LOL

It just needs to be centrally located for all hunters, If I get through the zones I dont know about going all the way to NC. I might have to get a friend to take Rock.

Ill. or Ind Just ask real coonhunters like Jim Merchant, John Monroe, Russ Bellar, they have hunted almost everywhere, but look where they have been most of their hunting career. Then there are people like Tim Whitaker, Jeff Nelson,Monty Gusse, Don Huber, and Dallas Stafford. All Ill. or Ind boys who run ads not on potlickers ,all the time for years. They make good hounds in good hunting territory. Bob Marti Ambraw Valley B&T's

NOt something like uhhhh lets see......... Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana............. and so on............... I think either

Kentucky or Suthern Illinios with no leaves on the trees and then we would find a World Chmpion that there is no bad talk about because it is plain and simple has to hunting hard to find a coon and also has to see the coon or a hole or minus points would be awarded I think that is a good idea

unfortunately,it doesnt matter if the dog shitts gold and trees 50 coon that no other dog can smell, some will talk bad things about him.
hes mean, thats why the other dogs wouldnt tree with him.
he can tree coon in the winter, but in the summer when the pollen is bad he cant tree a coon.
hes a coon dog in thin coon, but blows up in thick coon.
the papers arent right on him.
he has a white toenail.
ect ect ect
