John,

You bring up a good point. The problem is that it is darn hard to get a date for a hunt....simple as that.

We are working at having some winter time hunts, with full knowledge that we may only have three or four guys show up.....we will have them, it's your job to attend now. Which club do you belong to? Will you be there to judge and or guide?

I am working with five or six clubs in Northern Indiana to schedule some "leaves off" hunts this fall/winter....

Not sure what your point is though. History has proven that guys don't come to hunts in the winter.

I'm with Joe on this one. As a club officer who puts in many hours for these spring, summer & fall hunts it's nice to have some downtime to recoup a little & not spend my whole weekend at the club. In case you haven't noticed it's usually only a few people "working" to make these hunts possible. The rest of ya just show up to hunt & leave. Most of ya are reluctant to judge /guide & are basically -users.The same guys who want all these winter hunts usually never show up anyways. If you want these winter hunts just tell the club officers you would like to hold some Jan/Feb hunts & run the whole show for them. I guarantee they will let ya!!!I would welcome it-but I'm not holding my breath. And ya wonder why clubs are dying???Too many hogs & not enough farmers.Joe, congrats on getting in the semis at Onsted! I was there too. I bought a hat for $250!!! I was the hunt director for the open/pups on Sat. nite.

Hate to admit it, but PKC CH is harder to get if you don't get the breaks .As far as PKC PCH compared to UKC GRNTCH the thePCH status would be like winning the UKC World Hunt or AO.

pkc ch definately harder. I don't know where you all get that a dog has to tree a coon to be a nite ch. they have to have plus points but this is quite often a result of backing the right dog at the right time.

I havent been able to read all of these threads but covered some of them. U die hard UKC hunters are keeping closed minds. I like both registries and hunt both UKC and PKC. In PKC's defense (imagin having to defend PKC on the UKC board) PKC pays out money to the dog that makes the least mistakes when the coon arent moving. Its not the fact that "PKC pays out to the dogs that cant tree a coon" thats wrong thinking. Dont be so judgemental until you experience it.

i know that the post about bud winning the world hunt with minus was made a while back but do none of you realize that he won 5 consecutive cast to get there. if that is easy then one of you should take home the $30,000 this year.

titles

PKC champion degree is harder in my area. That is if you hunt local at all your hunts. I don't travel good and so don't travel much. Get critisized for not winning away from home, just don't hunt away from home. Anyway, much harder to make a PKC Champion here than UKC nitech. My gyp has won 9 UKC cast this year and won 8 PKC cast. She needs one more win to be a UKC Grandnite and $70 more to just make PKC Champ. Have drawn much tougher dogs in PKC also. Cast wins have all been plus points. Math is simple with my calculater, but also know all areas are different. Takes a good dog to win anywhere cons.

I guess it is harder in my area to make a PKC Ch. Especially since there are very few PKC hunts around here. Folks around here laugh at PKC and the rules they go by. Yes there are a few PKC hunts around here, but very few and getting to be fewer.

Around here there are a many a PKC champion made through the week, and on just cast wins. There are alot of PKC hunts around here though. I think a dog that consistently wins the "BIG" hunts either UKC or PKC has my vote!

I see alot of dogs around here win PKC hunts that i'd barley call a coondog, and most of the time here the casts are won on alot of circle, and maybe a few +points

Without a doubt UKC is harder to make a Champion simply because you have to get a 1st place win. I am not saying the dogs are any better, just more difficult. I like UKC 125 treepoints compared to PKC 100. I like PKC receeding tree rule. Both reg should revise their tree rules. PKC is more open to rule changes than UKC, which I am all for revising rules for the better. I think UKC is a much more "Professionaly" run organization. I think the compitition is a little stiffer at most PKC hunts, at some of the larger UKC hunts you start to see much better dogs that could win in either organization.

ukc vs pkc

I quit hunting UKC hunts 12 or 13 years ago and only hunted PKC. since there are Hardly and PKC hunts around here i began hunting UKC again the last 2 years and with out a doubt the competition in PKC is mucher stiffer than UKC. Most guys won't bring their sorry dogs to a PKC hunt and pay the $25 to enter, and another $25 to ? a call. In UKC they can pay $10 or $15 to hunt and fuss all night for free.

pkc is harder

I"ve hunted them both and Dave is right. If a man pays a 25 or 50 dollars to hunt he is usually toting a nice hound. The way hunts are down if there are only 1 or 2 casts then you have a pretty good shot of putting a 1st on your dog. In the same note with numbers down on hunts it takes alot of cast wins to earn $500. Just my opinion.....

I think it depends on what area you are in and who shows up with which dogs. PKC, UKC, AKC it just depends who you are running against. Around here eveybody hunts all of the registry's and it depends on who is where on whick night.

Everyone?, well for sure at least someone wins at all the PKC events with or with out minus points. So , my point is, yes winning in PKC is simply that easy. Because for the most part you are guarenteed a cast winner. This is not the case in UKC. Someone has to score on a coon, plain and simple. But not always easy.
