how old is your female and was there any males in that litter? that is what a coma dog does, mine and my huntting buddy's hardly ever puts there nose to the ground on a hot track, but they both take there tracks as they come to them they do not go through the woods huntting for a hot track that they can tree easy,

I've not seen many around here that didn't do some GRUBBIN in the colder months, when coons aren't moving as much. I've heard and read about a lot of hounds that CAN FLAT MOVE EVERY COLD TRACK THEY COME ACCROSS, but I'm yet to see it, and doubt it's true. Some of them old rough, cold tracks just can't be moved with much speed. I don't like for a dog to stand on their head, or grubb often but some nights around here (Like a lot of other places with less coons), those tracks might be the only ones you get, and if you don't have a dog that can run them, you ain't gonna tree many coons.

Yep same here some nights. If your dog cant run a cold track or tree a layup its will be a long wasted night.I ant never seen a ground pounder in action and im fine with that.

I understand what some of you are saying but you gotta factor In a few things ... Especially the guys that hunt the same type of territory I hunt . How often are these dogs opening on junk and switching to coon.the good ones are hard to catch at that... How many times are they striking a bad track and switching onto different and better tracks and having the coon ? ? Do you not think that happens?

I for one must have a dog that can run a track ... But don't like a trailing hound... I love a dog that's quick on getting treed... But don't like a tree monster and have to be looking at coons. I want a dog that can tree any kind of coon and will tree as many coon per acre as possible... basically to look for a track an if there's no track, looks for a coon sitting up.. There's in fact twice as many coon in most woods than what people and most dogs think; but ill never be able to get many people to agree with me on that

I'm not disputing what you say or what you have witnessed in your dogs, but... I can also say that you can take a hot nose, babbling fool, and turn him loose in Northern Indiana and they'll catch coon on the ground. But, that doesn't mean they tracked them there!

Dwills

do you realy think a dog will switch tracks?? if that is the case if a dog is trailing (or ground pounding ) as some people call it and there is so many coon in the woods the dog should be switching tracks untill he hits a hot one.

I absolutely believe dogs switch tracks in certain situations . You bet I do . And another thing ... I never said tracking means ground pounding ... I simply said is more times than not people will label those dogs as cold nosed track dogs . Seen it happen and could easily name some dogs but won't .and wheni say ground pounding ,,, dogs that take abnormally long to get treed and stand one their heads , what may be obvious to you and me isn't so obvious to others...but If coon aren't moving at all and it's a frosty cold night I want a dog to stick with that track until the end . But if coon are somewhat moving an a dog with alot of nose strikes on a bad bad track and works a ways in the woods and there is a better track crossing over that bad track he's running you don't believe dogs switch off onto that better track? I'm just debating the topic here skip I'm not starting no bull here.

But there are many more coon than what people think out there

ARE YOU A TRACK EXPERT OR WHAT ALL HOUNDS ARE DIFFERENT WOULDNT YOU AGREE ON THAT POINT OF THE SUBJECT A GOOD DEER DOG RUNS WITH ITS NOSE IN THE AIR DO YOU AGREE ON THAT A HOUND THAT CAN PUSH A JUNK TRACK USUALLY RUNS A COON TRACK THE SAME WAY BUT WITH A DIFFERENT TONE VICE WOULD YOU AGREE ON THAT

Nope not a expert that's for sure . Just got different opinions than others. This is just a discussion! Yet people find something to take offense to . Trust me I'm not meaning to offend anyone . Just going with the topic that's all

Not to change subject but do dogs bleed out their ass with a twisted gut? Never had it happen to me but seen it happen to a dog lastnite and dog was bleeding bad out the ass . The guy said he fed her at 4 that afternoon and I told him that's not a good idea

Daniel

i'm debating also and we both have a right to beleive what we do i have been at this a long long time, you are right about one thing there is a lot more coon in a woods then what people think/ will a dog switch tracks i do not know for sure you can asume about anything, how many times have you been staning there and see a coon laid up and your dog (or Mine ) runs a track over by that tree and they make a lose and cast all around by that tree and go on, know has this ever never happend to you ? if they was going to switch it seems like they would of there ,THAT is what i'm going by, now when we think they have run a track that started out cold and they start to warm it up (we think) OR did they change tracks?? to tell you the truth i do not know and i do not beleive any one does we can say what we want or think what we want, BUT do we realy know.

about ground pounding, when people say that word it just hits a nerve with me COME ON a dog has to trail a track to tree it, if one of my dogs open on a track i do not care how old that track is i better not see them untill they are on a tree some where sure i would like it to be over as fast as it can be , BUT you and i hunt the same area so you know as well as i do there are times when it will take them longer to tree unless they are just running through the woods looking for a hot track, and that type of dog does not stay long at my house ,for me they have to take there track as they come to them and run it as fast as the track alows as long as when i walk into that tree they have the meat.

Sir, I think you are mistaken, Stylish Coma was born in May, 1994, and he died in May 2007, he was 13, Jerry Hall did not own him Chad Medlock an Darian Wiseman owned him, he is buried in Chad's back yard, Chad buried him.
The youngest pup out of Coma got killed last winter in Alabama
He was out of a litter that only 1 puppy lived..
So my Cash dog is now out of the youngest living litter out of Stylish Coma, there was 3 in his litter.

Boxmanwillie, the way I read what you wrote, looks like you said she was out of Stylish Coma,I am a Coma fan, and when I seen that, it don't jive with the facts about Stylish Coma.
Sounds like you have a nice female, who is a grandpup of the great Stylish Coma.......
And she wasn't out of the last litter out of Stylish Coma, she was out of Stylish Flatrock Coma.
