The Bevent pond is a pretty long and narrow pond. It is entirely fenced in. It is set up so that the dogs run off a bank out of the starting box, i.e. no concrete block to jump off of. I frequently go to their just for the wr and ft and I haven't been disappointed yet.

They also have a really nice field trail track!

Thank you! I hardly know anyone out here, so I'm still trying to match names and faces but I get embarrassed always asking people what their name is.....especially since I have a hard time remembering names.

Regardless, it was a great final race with 2 really nice dogs splitting the win (if I remember right)!

Thank you for that info! I really appreciate it. As long as my dog doesn't come in heat before then, I'm planning to be there. She's pretty close to finishing to FCh, so that's the main reason I want to make the trip. She swims good too but she won't stay in a narrow pond that isn't fenced, so it's good to know that Bevent has a fenced pond, and a big plus with the bank at the start.
Thanks!

1300 mile round trip and we get 10 of the 15 points needed for WCH!!!
A WCH title takes a ton of effort. With a little luck by the end of August Sky will make it, she only need 5 points.

If it gets real popular they will breed splay footed Bench flunkies on a greyhound.

If you've ever been to the big open water races you already know how popular it is and you've seen just about anything and everything crossed with greyhound. Don't think I've seen very many that were splay footed tho'.

Soooo, speaking of open/grade water races.....what kind of finals payouts do you all have in different parts of the country? I'm curious if $1000-1500 is pretty typical or does it vary alot.

We got ours from the Bakers in MI when we bought a bunch several years ago for the club we used to be officers for in CA. They worked well for the club because they're nice and wide, so the color shows well for judging, and people can choose whether or not they want to pull them up over the dog's ears.

Maybe someone here (Dale maybe?) knows if they're still making them and what their contact info is??? Or they're easy to make if you know someone who can sew swimsuit material.

At some point you can see the Gator about ten feet off the bank to the right hand side and see Clorox and the coon straight out about 50 feet. dog and coon go under but the dog comes back up but the coon does not. I hope you enjoy it till I am banned.

I am sorry if I said someting about splayfooted but that is what I breed for because this is where I hunt. I would not even trim toe nails. And yes , a hard working dog with big feet can cover a whole lot more ground where I hunt than a cat footed dog . I was not putting anybody down and I would ask for the same respect from you.

l.lyle - I am glad to see that I'm not the only one that notices the advantages of those big old wide feet around mud and water. I had noticed years ago hunting in a plowed field that had been flooded, that the catfooted dogs had trouble keeping up as they ran a coon across the field. The catfooted dogs would sink in the mud where the so called flatfooted dogs ran on top of it, just leaving a print instead of a hole.
On the water races, they used to be popular around here, they used to have a swim about every month, but the last time I went down to my old original club, I think they had filled in the pond. I know that House's Clint's grandmother spent a lot of Sundays swimming in the water races ! She was pretty fast about it too .

l.lyle - After seeing your video, I am glad we don't have gators around here ! Just thinking about it gave me an idea why my family came to Kentucky in 1809, after being in VA and Carolinas for 200 years, it was to get away from the gators ! From the video it looks like man or dog would need to be watching when hunting at night around there, otherwise that log in the grass might get an easy meal.

No,I have not been to a water race in 30 years and even then they were just local coondogs. I re-read this whole thing and did not hear anyone mention crossing on greyhound until I said it. None of the pictures indicated greyhound. I did not know people were already doing it. I'm not surprised though. A fast dog with big paddles should do well. Sorry I turned a boat over. It was not intended.

It would be cool for someone to invent hinged rubber flippers for the dogs feet. If the speed improves, breed for bigger feet, if it doesn't, don't.

Probably nobody mentioned it because this is the UKC site and I'd imagine the conversation on this thread is geared to UKC Water Races.....ie UKC registered dogs. But if you like to play the game for money (like they do in the western states for sure) you'll breed to whatever makes your dog faster. I've seen it all my "coonhound life" up until moving to IA last year. Our 4-way titled bluetick has beat greyhound crosses in both the field trials and water races (opens, of course), but she's been beat by them too.
My husband prefers to play the game for money now that she's titled, so that's why I asked about final payouts.
