2001 Toyota Dual Cab 4x4 with a 4.3 6 cylinder. I will average 22-24 on the highway and between 18-21 around town. Love this truck, worth every penny I paid for it. I have 157,000 on it and still getting this type of MPG. I will average a little over 350 miles on a tank if traveling down the highway. Now my 1983 hunting yota is a 4x4 4cyl and maybe averages 16-18 mpg, never checked it? They are some hard trucks to kill, I do know this much. I tell ya what if Honda Civic would come out with a Hybrid truck that would get 45 MPG and like my car does and also have power I would be all over it with gas prices the way they are geeez!!!

I didnt know Toyotas had 4.3 Cheby motors in em!Anyways I would like to know how some of you calculate your fuel mileage cause I aint a buying it.My 2002 Toyota Double cab 4x4 3.4 v-6 that I bought new was a gas guzzler.14-15 in the city and 17-18 on the highway, needless to say it hit the road and every Yota that I owned except for this one I had to replace the head gasket on them, even the 99 tacoma 2.7 4 banger head gasket went out that I bought new.

are they the same size tires or bigger? if they are larger you would be going farther than your odometer says unless you had it calibrated to the larger tires

Started in 06. I get 18 with general driving and 20 or so on interstate trips.

Is there a reason you never hear of diesel trucks having the option of dropping back to run on 4 cyclinders on the highway like some of the gas motors do ? You would think they'ed have the torque to do well with that but maybe it can't be done with a diesel.

2005 Chevy 2500 HD.... 6.0 gas,4x4, auto with 265/75/16's and 410 gears. it gets 11 mpg around here and 13.5mpg on a trip if i keep it below 70 mph. I bought the truck new to pull the boat and the first 3 years i had Beaters (2 F150's with the 300 ci 5 speed 4x4 and they got around 15 city 19 highway) After i realized my HD was not new anymore, I sold the last truck and Just went back too one truck. On average between insurance, tags and general up keep the beaters cost me around $1200.00 a year ( Thats alot of gas) Its paid for and only has 52,000 miles on it and i need it to tow my boat and i hunt and mow out of it with no payment. So i figure i should be good for atleast 5 more years... before another payment with better gas mileage !

Ford has the new"Eco Boost" motor thats a twin turbo v6 motor thats in the Taurus SHO but modified for a truck. That gets over 20 MPG and has 300+ horsepower...Don't quote me on those numbers but i believe thats
the motor your asking about( The new Ford motor)

Anyone ever put new tires on their truck and have the milage go down 3 miles to the gallon ? 2009 crew ford 18 to 20 out of factory tires, yokahama tires 15 to 17 . Sounds stupid but true. TOM

Yup, would be willing to bet that the yokes are a more aggressive tread pattern than the factory tire....but I could be wrong...dang shore wont be the first time

You might've went from 4 ply tires to heavier 10 ply tires.

My Toyota FJ Cruiser will get 17 mpg tops, the 2002 Duramax would get an honest 18 in town and 22 on the interstate.
2005 F-250 4x4 6.0 diesel got 17mpg but gave up the ghost at 43,000. Now I drive a 1-ton Chevy 4x4 dually flatbed with tilt bed, it will get 14-15, but it seldom goes over 5 miles at a time usually at 45-50 mph.

When my FJ cruiser was in the shop the dealer loaned us a new Toyota Tundra to drive.............what a gas hog the absolute best mileage we got was 11.7 with the lowest at 9.1mpg, I don't know how anyone could afford to buy one and then put fuel in it.

04 expendition with 5.3 trition in with k&n air system, flow masters, royal purple fluids in rear end, trans, and front end get 20 in town and 23-25 hwy

06 silverado with 4.3 vortec with everything above and get 25 hwy and 20 in town.

An oversize tire will record less miles on your odometer. You have to run off of a GPS to track your actual miles traveled. You dont have to empty your tank to calculate your mileage. Fill it up, drive a day, fill it up.
High octain does get better gas milage. Looking into installing a home made hydrogen generator useing salt water and trucks electronics.
My 94 Toy 4x4 32x15 tires with 4 banger gets 20-21 hwy. Header w/2-1/2" flowmaster, (no cad), modified air intake, teflon intake gaskets (to min heat transfer), hi-8 coil w/8mm wires, stock plugs, new injectors, new 120 amp alternator, new distributor, full synthetic w/addative for all moving drive train, constant tire pressure check.
Going back to stock tires and a new ported head for added air flow as soon as I can afford it.

I think some people need to take some math refresher courses. lol I drive a 96 Z71 ext cab with a vortec 350 and 285/75/16 mud grips. 139,000 original miles. If I am lucky I get about 13 miles to the gallon.
