We actually thought we were close to a deal with a network and sponsors, early this year, but it didn't come together.
With the cost of air time, production expenses, equipment and travel, the total cost for just one season would be between $60,000 and $100,000. The lower end if we filmed most everything in Joe, Shane's and my backyards, and on the higher end if we travelled as much as we would like to, as well as meet the requests of the viewers.
A couple things, folks need to realize. One, we were constantly bombarded with requests to come down South, or out East or West, hunt more with Blue dogs, or black and tans, or more big game hunts, etc. etc. But that all costs money, and Joe, Shane and I don't make any money at this. Which means we have to have other jobs that we can't always tear ourselves away from, and we have to find a way to cover those costs.
And two... sponsors have the same requests. They want a more diverse and exciting show, but sometimes fail to realize that first of all they need to come on board as sponsors, and secondly, they need to help pony-up the types of dollars to afford such a show. Otherwise, we are in a chicken and egg situation! People want us to make a better show to sponsor us, but we need sponsors to make a better show.
One common misunderstanding, is these shows are not a paying gig! The network does not pay us for our show, in fact we have to pay the network to air it.
So unfortunately (for the sport more than us) Joe, Shane and I are getting out the hammer and nails, and setting up the coffin.
