heres my two cents on this............if my dog comes into a closed tree, hes not comin back home with me, i feel this is something that should be fixed before even puttin a dog in a hunt. the male im huntin now done it once or twce, but i promise he wont do it again!

One thing I have noticed about folks that hunt holsteins, on the whole they would breed to a dog own by an Axe murderer if they thought they could win with it, and the off breed guys are more backward and won't breed to the best thing going cause "ole so and so said X one night, and I don't like em".

I say that as an "off breed" owner. I have just noticed that over the years, it might not be anything big, maybe an arguement over eggs, but the ones that own Black dogs wouldn't breed to a bonafide dominant reproducer cause of something the owner said 15 years ago. It's wierd.

I'll have to agree Rip..

I've got one better than that!!!!

Imagine having the big hunts with the leaves off. I'm sure the outcome would be a little different.

How would it be different? How many trees did the new world champ get circled the other night?

I don't know I wasn't there was you???? I'm absolutely sure that Mr. Bellar has a coon dog. Lord knows he isn't afraid to buy one. Different people judge different casts different ways. Some honestly and some dishonestly.... remove the leaves and you've removed the dishonesty but of course with some people it doesn't matter either way.

Jeff, I was there and I hunt the area all the time.

They should have seen coon. Matter of fact I was expecting about 4 coon or better per cast.

I know the ones the club picked to judge would have judged it right.

Good enough for me. When I first heard the World Championship was going to be in Rogersville I laughed to myself. I thought well at least it's going to be done honestly. I'm not refering to one individual hunt I'm refering to all the big hunts. I was hunting a big hunt up north sometime ago and a dog came in with a score of 2,200 points!!!!! I then hunted the UKC Winter Classic and drew out in a clear cut thicket where a bluetick had scored in excess of 1,500 points the night before. Heck there wasn't anything there for a coon to climb. Scores like that are at the least unbelieveable. That's one of those I'd have to see it for myself before I'd believe it.

I been a member of that club for 6-8 years or so now and I can honestly say it is by far the best club I have ever been to.

Not because of me, all I do is pay my membership and hunt a couple of times a year.

It's because of the integrity they have when they do things. They pick judges that they think will run the cast by the rules to the best of their ability.

I have never had a bad hunt there (at least not from a judging standpoint, a dog standpoint is a different matter all together LOL).

Every time I have ever drawn out of that club I have been put in coon and had a fair judge.

I wish I could help them more, but I am too tied up with work to do much.

did you say......

u wanna change the game?

if u want to really change the game: tree is either plus or minus, no circle.... and scratch after the second slick tree... now that'll change the game and change the way some of these dogs r being bred too......

You've got my vote. I've said the same thing before. Here's a direct quote from an ad I wrote in 1993 : " If all he did was put a tree at the end of the track, I wouldn't be impressed (trees are plentiful), but he almost always has the meat."

I stand by the same thing today. I don't need a dog to show me a tree (I can find lots of them all through the woods). SHOW ME A COON!!! If a dog doesn't do that, it's a failure (maybe the dogs fault---maybe your fault (couldn't find one that was there))---either way, a failure!!!

You either see the coon, or you don't. Forget about the excuses about why you don't see a coon. Results are what matter!!!!
