Hey great news Richard. I really liked Gobbler when I hunted with him. Maybe the other 3 that are looking good will finish soon. I'm looking forward to seeing their mother again.

Hey Lee, ol Rebel isn't doing too well right now... he has been just laying around in his house all day..acting stiff, joints swollen..figured it was from me hunting him lately...but noticed he has kinda been acting funny even before that, not his happy outgoing self.. hasn't been loading in the truck..2 days ago his eyes were all glazed over and when I called his name, he would just look up and barely wag his tail..
rushed him to the vet..they have everybit of blood work that can be done on him sent out right now.. Doc doesn't think it is the erhlichea.. lymph nodes were very swollen. He is eating/drinking and moving around, and uses the bathroom.. good sign..
doc says whatever it is...should hopefully get him fixed up..
And the last 2 comp hunts I put him in..just wasn't his self..he went hunting alright..just wasn't how I know he can be. Heck, I feel bad now for even of hunting him...
Will keep you informed.

Sounds EXACTLY like erhlichea that wasn't treated long enough and it is hitting again. Good luck with him. Let me know what the results are.

Keep me posted on Rebel. I think I'm taking the weekend off from the hunts. Had one about an hour and a half from here, but have to work in the morning and just didn't want to go.

I have had three hounds come down with it, snowman, moony and scooter. Snowman and moony got treated 60 days, and never looked back. Scooter had it when I got him I believe, and he had problems off and on til right before he got ran over. He seemed to be much better at the end, least he was performing fairly consistently much more than in the past.

Rebel has no disease..he has an extremely low thyroid. That explains why he hasn't been hunting as hard as he should, won't load and has been gaining weight..even though he is being hunted..
The joint swelling and pain is from the extra weight (and being out of shape).
Vet said that he has more than likely had this problem for an extremely long time and thats why he got to the condition he was in, very very sickly.
So, he will be on thyroid medicine for the rest of his life. At least I know what is wrong and that it can be fixed once the proper dose of medication is prescribed.

good deal donnie, glad to hear it wasnt something more serious...did the vet say whether it was a hereditary thing or just something individual dogs get?

they don't know why some dogs get it and some don't, but do not believe it is heriditary.
Typically dogs 4-10 yrs and between 60-100 lbs are most susceptible.

thats interesting....so unexplained weight gain, possible pain in the joints and lethargy can be thyroid...good to know ...once again glad its not a big deal

the pain more than likely came from the weight and being hunted fairly hard... not directly caused by the thyroid.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread Lee...

Hey bud this is just as much your thread as it is mine. And that goes for anyone. I'm glad that rebel is treatable and thanks for keeping us updated. I would like to see some pictures of him on here when you get a chance.

Everything is ok here. Same story on the flooding part. We are suppose to get more tonight all the way threw Wednesday I think. Hope the pup is doing ok for you. I took mine out the other night and like to have never gotten him back. He went hunting by himself away from the other dogs due to them not striking very quick and man he blew a hole in the dark. Too bad he doesn't know what he's hunting for yet.lol. He should start easily from here.

Update

Clear River Chopper(bullet II x Clear River Misty) was finished to a Nite Champion last night. He now joins NtCh Clear River Pearl, NtCh Twin Springs' Blazin Woody & NtCh Smokey River Blue Pete as Nite Champions out of this litter. There is also a littermate male named Dandy that is carrying a first.

The second cross is now about 10mo. old and there are three that I know of Running and treeing their own coon and a couple more that are well started.

The cross will likely be made again in the near future. It has been a good one.

Bred Twin Springs' Dancer's Bl Misty(Ch GrNtCh Smokey River Cheif's Blue Dancer x ChGrNtCh Smokey River Jeans Blue Leary) to Bullet II the other day. This is the second time this has been made. I really liked the first cross and it is carrying real hounds behind them.

Lee

I don't think you know that the Rock dog, that Wes Gilroy bought off here a month ago, won 1st reg. Sat. night at the BBOA hunt is out of II and a Rambo II / Bullet female. Wes is the same kid (young man now) that hunted Bullet for you in Kentucky at the Reunion several years ago on Sat. night. He had the Gus dog out of Bullet that fell out of a tree and died when he was young. Rock also won a PKC cast last Monday night. Take care, Ron.
