lot of talk..

about the big hunts in the north and the sout!!! Most of the top hounds that win go a spend a few weeks to get acclimated to the land scape!! I can say this the few times I went to Ind, Ohio, and Mich I had pretty good success, however I have bought several hounds from the North that were said to be solid only to find that they struggled around my house. What I have seen is a lack of hunt and the will to get deep but most eventually get accustomed to the land scape and turn in to nice hounds....just takes a while!!!

NC, where the deer out number coons 20 to 1!!!!

I would say by far yea sothern dogs are better than yankee dogs. If you see what we hunt in down here in south Florida and north Georgia.up north theres 1 tree in a corn field and they tree ten coons in it ,down here are dogs have to get deep in the tyty to even strike and a yankee dogs cant hang with a sothern dog down here for shore.

On one hand that makes sense, but if southern dogs are superior, and the plott breed was developed solely in the south(the carolina's) then that would make plotts the best breed! That's gotta hurt you walker boys! Right Hobo! HAHAHAA!!!!
Sorry bud, couldn't resist!

I've read all kinds of opinions on this thread, about a northern dog can or can't do this or that. Or a southern dog doing this or that. Or you have to hunt them in the terrain for a week or two to get ready. If the dog's got it, it doesn't matter!
Went to the Winter Classic for the 1st time this year, never hunted there before, didn't know anybody down there.
3rd place nite ch saturday night, tied for 4th highest score.
600+, no minus, 225 circle

From the results of the Winter Classic it sure looks like the Northern dogs won their fair share of casts! Go figure! LOL I bet when the next big hunt in the north is held you will see Southern dogs winning their fair share of casts as well. So does that mean all the posts on this thread as well as the thread itself are pretty well meaningless? Dang, that includes my posts too! LOL Maybe just good entertainment for those cold snowy nights!

No, we weren't. We got drawed out to the club in Edison and an older gentlemen who lived nearby and owned 3500 acres guided our cast. No bukcets, but it was good area.

I grew up in indiana and had a black and tan female that would tear it up then move here to morehead ky and just where she was used to just hunting a patch woods wouldnt hunt as deep as it consist to get a coon down here...but then again ive seen guys bring dogs from down south up to indiana and just make fools out of themselves not used to the flat land and wide open fields and just take off! so rly it all just depends...id rather hunt with them yankee dogs myself :P!

NOW AS FAR AS BEING BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSES EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY BUT DONT CHANGE THAT HE IS AND ALWAYS BE A COON DOG.... I THINK IF THAT IS HOW U SEE IT THEN U CANT GO WRONG.... AND AS YALL SAY THERE IS A DIFF IN A DOG THAT CAN TREE A COON AND A COON DOG PEOPLE FIRST HAVE TO GET THAT THROUGH THERE HEAD

Yes. Think about it northen has more coons so dog doesn't have to work as hard to tree. Now in the south coons aren't like they are around here they have to have drive for a tree. If that's not true all I know is all my dogs came from the south

REMEMBER

This has been a fun post. there is just one thing yall yankees need to remember, coon hunting was first started here in the SOUTH, it is our culture and part of our history down here. Yall seem to forget that the first breed of coonhound the black & tan orginated in the south, VIRGINIA, if you dont believe that read the UKC description of the b&t breed, even KENTUCKY started the walker breed, NORTH CAROLINIA the plott, and GEORGIA the redbone, read the decriptions UKC has on all the orgins of the breeds of all the hounds and you will find out they all started in the SOUTH, that should say something. Remember even GEORGE WASHINGTON had a pack of blueticks and he was from where, VIRGINIA. Nuff said.
