It is kinda getting tough to find kids that want to go hunting, I've even had some pretty good dogs that i've offered to get some kids hunting and no takers, just not a ton of interest in my area, i would have killed for some of the stuff my buddy's and i have offered when i was a youngster....oh well, it will pick up i'm sure
yes, and its just not the kids that are hard to encourage to start up. this is a fun sport once you know whats going on, but it is tough getting started. when i started in my mid twenties,i started pretty much green. the guy i had been hunting with didnt [or very rarely] comp hunt. so when i went to comp i had to learn it all on my own. for the newcomers today, it would sure be good to be able to steer them to an experienced comp hunter who could explain how things work. but the problem is that those who are doing most of the talking arent the best to be doing the talking[possibly myself included], and the guys who keep their mouths shut are the ones who should be talking. if every first time comp hunter could be referred to someone like bob hennessey, cliff ladue, shane marcyes to get a tutorial from them, our hunts might be better attended. first timers need to understand that there will be times that they feel cheated, when in fact the rules required them to be minused for that situation. how many first timers got minused for their dog coming in, meeting off the tree, treeeing loosely, etc and thought they were cheated?
