I've heard different things about the collar and decided to go ahead and buy it. I filed a complaint with Garmin about the collar and it wouldn't hurt if others file a complaint, we might get faster results or a better collar.

It’s like this, Sale thousands with a few complaints, why change a product.

Get thousands to complain and we better do something about it or we could lose business. JMO

Tell Garmin what you think:

Tri-Tronics

I talked to a enganeere from T-t last week. They said they were going to come out with a unit real soon that would be better. It wont have a counter balance. Untill then I think I will keep on using my Tracker Maxama and Intelo or Marshall collars, but these do sound great. Larry

For those of you still looking.....I ordered our unit from Everything for Less (MSN shopping) for $457 including the shipping.

It came new in box and arrived FEDEX within two days.

Here is the link with several different vendors. The place I got mine shows 3 left in stock at this time...they had 18 when I got ours.

http://shopping.msn.com/Prices/shp/...6231,ptnrid=171

Good luck....
Still playing around with ours...but believe we are going to love it.

I am planning on getting this unit. It shoud be able to help you know when your dog is approaching a road so you can possibly save its life.

I would say hook the astro unit to a tracking collar and use the tracker as a counter balance and that way if you lose the astro signal you still have a tracker and all in one collar.

The Astro GPS works better then any other GPS I’ve every used and as soon as the screen comes up it has all 5 bars. I’ve used the GPS inside a 13 story building marking each corner of each floor (even basement) to get square footage and it had a signal the whole time. Comparing the Etrax to the Astro is like comparing a Geo to a Corvette. I’ve also put the tracking system to the test in bad weather, flat lands, national forest, deep gullies, hilly and thick cover even tested distant. You can go back a page or two and see my findings.

For those of you that are having a hard time using the unit, it would help you a lot if you read the owners manual. There is nothing that you can screw up that the factory didn’t want you to mess with and if you did mess things up you can set everything back to the factory setting (defaults). Most important things to remember is to calibrate the unit and turn both units on outside until they find each other.......If that doesn't work replace the DC20 antenna because mine was bad out of the box

If you're PC challenged find a kid to help you

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

KG

Astro and MapTech combination

Use of the Astro GPS system can be enhanced by the Topo MapTech system. The MapTech program produces TOPO maps of your hunting areas (scale 1:24,000). You can use the system with a Garmin etrex GPS or most any other Garmin product. I have map data for the entire state of Virginia. I can print out map sheets of any hunting area. It is a great system and worth the price. Go to MapTech.com. The Terrain Navigator is the site area your looking for.

Guys last night my brother's dog got up a blow down. He fell approximately 30 feet, I tried to break his fall, managed to get my nose and mouth all busted up in the process. The Trasnsmitter hit me square in the mouth. We were shocked to find that the unti still worked flawlessly even with that kind of a fall. The only thing damaged was my mouth, nose, and a heck of a charlie horse in my arm. The antenna didn't even break.....wish I could say the same for my nose and two blackened eyes and busted lip.
