Thanks Simon, That Clyde sure is a looker.
Well I took Big Money to a nite hunt Saturday, we had a 2 an 3 dog cast, I was on the 3 dog cast, after 1st drop our guide had 200- next dog had 200 circle I had 175 circle, we loaded up an started up the road, like always im last an got pulled over, he just wanted to tell me my tail gate was down, so I thanked him but i had no idea where the guide went, I sit on the road for 45 mins, then called master hound told him what happened he said he would try to call the guide, after 20 min he called an said they thought I had quit an had turned loose, Well Why Would I Quit We Had and hour an 20 min to hunt, he said they would be back to pick me up, well after another 45 min I called an said im still sitting here but wont be any longer im going Home I sit here from 11;15 till 1 am, I think they should had been scratched after they turned loose but only in my world can this happen, I told my self They Was Scared Of The Big Dog!!!
That sounds like some of the rounds I have been on!! I agree the whole cast should have been scratched- it's pretty clear about that.
It's been humid and hot again this week. Last night it was about 72* when we finished but the humidity was 97%! I don't know about everyone else's hounds but the heat (and mainly humidity) really takes a toll on their performance when it gets that bad. Either that or I just need a little more dog power!! It's hard enough on me!
Not many hunts coming up nearby for the next month or so. I'm focusing on a getting a puppy going before the season. She did a good job with a big black 175lb coon the other night. She has the grit, we'll see what she'll make. I hope to know pretty quickly so I can move on to something else. The wife isn't attached to this one like she is the other one so it will leave quickly if it doesn't suit me.
I have pretty much given up on my other female (ride). She has all the tools and would make a fantastic dog if she just had a little more grit. She has treed about a dozen coons completely by herself. She is very independent and handles like a dream. I genuinely believe that if she had the grit that Clyde or Swag has, she would be almost the same caliber of dog as Swag. I just don't think she has the grit for the competition world though. I have seen her tree coons around my old dogs and I have seen her lay them up. I just can't stick her to a tree long enough. Its hard to give up on one like that...
