Darren Rejet has two wins towards Gr Nt Ch. Now that May Flower made it some of these others will get around to being finished. I am my only handler and not a very good one, so it takes awhile. I let the dog do it. No man made degrees here, no pitching or riding the other cast members' dogs. Last but not least if the coon ain't there, no plus points-period! I write down every coon I tree and have since back in the 70,s. I want those records of hunts to be accurate. Try hard to rotate these dogs and keep them in the woods. Some nights I come back and take different ones back out. Realize that many cannot or would not do this. I maintain that in order to keep a line of dogs going each generation has to prove themselves. In order to do that I hunt and feed a few hounds. Theories and ideas are good but it is the practical application steps that get it done (wearing out boots). Cold down here for us. Still plenty of water-so breaking lots of ice. Male pup came by me after swimming a slough the other night and sounded like a big old cat purring-he was cold but on his way to the dogs!

CW

Glad we share these same philosophies. Worn out boots equals coondog . Stay on them CW. We gone do the same over here at Southern Bluetick Kennels. Darren

There were 4 of us last night with 3 of our female hounds on a hunt. We had the dogs on the leash walking down a timber road far from where we expected any action. The dogs started pulling on the leash and barking. We were on top of a hill, in the middle of a pine thicket and everyone is looking at me with that "What do we do look?" on their faces. "Turn em loose!" Deer races don't sound as good as this. These bitches drove the track through the pines and a small bottom before pulling up, small lose, treeing but not really convincing. We are listening when the track cranks up again just as hard and fast as before. Our coons are rutting so we are wondering if they are running more than one or if this could be a Bobcat. After another 15 minutes and several hundred yards they come on a tree right. I elect to walk in case it is a Cat and everyone else (the ones with common sense) elect to drive around to the dogs. They did beat me to the tree this time. When we tree cats or Bear I try to get there quick to keep them in the tree. The Coon was in a nest. How do we know? Ruger 10/22 told us!

Squirrel Hunt

Rodney Barfield, Bubba Snyder and Bobby Carter along with Chester and Happy the dogs made a little two hour hunt this afternoon. We have SNOW in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. If it does snow we will say Merry Christmas and the whole world will stop.

We do not get many opportunities to hunt on snow down here. Last night we took out 4 young ones out of Rejet. The 1st tree was a huge hollow. Large enough so that we layed down, looked up and could see the coon. The next tree was a split for a little female and we found it in the top of the tree. The two males in this photo are Jet II on the left and Jr. on the right. Jet II if from Rejet X Hope and Jr. is from Rejet X May Flower. We had a great time hunting on the snow. You can tell how large the hollow was in the photo.

I hunted UKC Saturday night and could not see a coon. Just need a cast win, no pressure. I treed in every hollow or viney tree in the swamp. 1125 circle. Went back to the same places, with the same dog last night. Made three drops, looked at three coons. Petted the dog, put her back in the box having hunted less than half the time and drove home shaking my head, smiling with the thought-That is coon hunting.

Thanks Bob. Calls this morning say it is snowing in and around Atlanta, maybe down our way tonight. Will just have to wait and see how we behave this time. I say bring it on and enjoy. Atlanta ain't part of the South anymore anyway. Had a good group get together for a hunt last night. Two escapees from the frozen North showed up just in time to get a hunt in before wintry conditions get here again. With predictions of two days of this we may be treeing them in the house but last night we did it in the woods. Rodney Barfield, Bubba and Jason Snider, Bobby Carter, Bret Norman and Ed Mead. Bubba is 6'3" and his son Jason is 6'5"-first thing Ed said was "Well you haven't got any shorter since I seen you, that's for sure!" I have pictures but this computer needs a shot of Ex-lax-so I will post them later.

reminds me...

... of the good old days. Always fun hunting with Ed and all of the great guys that showed up at his house.

I need to try to make a trip up to see Ed sometime, but the money and family keeps from going anywhere. My mom is about to turn 84 and we had to move her in with us. Me the wife, 6 kids, and gramma all under one tiny roof.

Keep the pics coming!

Bob, Joe and Kevin thanks for looking in on here. Just got in from a hunt. I lost tie breaker. Had 450 plus on two coon but drew some minus and I took the leashes to wade in to get the dogs off the last tree. Wet and very cold until reaching home and changing clothes-was not the 1st time sure won't be the last. Driving back to Bob Kennedy's to pick up Ed and Bret in the morning or at least when I wake up. Quite a few calls from folks about breeding lately. Nice to know people are making plans and asking questions. Hopefully in a year or two these plans will be paying dividends. I know my hands are full with what few hounds I fool with. I also try to keep up with as many of you as possible. Right now plans are to travel a little more this year. My feet are warming up so I am going to hit the rack.

Ed, Bret and I took the young dogs last night. They struck what sounded like a good hot track and I was glad thinking Ed would get to hear Rejet's pups put on a show at the tree. Everything was going according to plan until dogs started hollering and we heard a coon squalling. Bret went with me in there to find them gnawing on the coon they had caught on the ground. From the looks of things the coon put up a pretty good fight. It was not necessary to lead them back to the truck because they were all winding and barking at the coon which we carried. Our next drop turned out to be about as exciting. The track started North then turned West in a hurry-too much for me cause I'm thinking deer at this point. About a mile from there we are in a position to cut them off and catch them, which we do and I put them in the box. As I look down on the pavement I see wet coon tracks crossing the road. We get the dogs back out and the race is on again for some 20 minutes before they treed it. All in all we had a good time. Ed left on the return trip in short sleeve weather knowing full well what awaits him at home. Priceless visit!

Had a good one last night, the only thing that put a damper on it was me getting wet. Lucy and Boomer's Lady split treed after taking separate tracks on the first drop. True to form those words that always come back to haunt you-let's see if we can tree another one real quick, came home to roost. Lucy took a track into areas I do not venture unless I have to, well I had to. She did her part, so I had to do mine. Crossed a downed tree onto an island. Managed to find one log that was only partially submerged due to all the rain. Placed the cell phone and all the other items that I did not want to get wet on a log prior to attempting the crossings. Got wet going in but it beats swimming this time of year. Found the coon and would have knocked the ungrateful creek crossing resident of another county out if I had carried a gun. The gymnastic movements had to be repeated on the way out with Lucy on the leash this time. Got wetter but was smiling and enjoying myself, knowing that even if I had slipped off the logs, that I had a good night doing exactly what I wanted to do!

Old Blue Books and Magazines

Quite a few people have contacted me about old books and I am searching for some for a couple of people right now. This led me to post this today-I can not find the following BBCHA Blue Books 1992, 93, 94 or 95. I feel quite sure that I have had copies of each but have not been able to put my hands on them. If any of you have an extra copy of those years please let me know. I do have many years of BBCHA and BBOA Bluebooks from years past. Also Mountain Music, Full Cry, American Cooner, Bloodlines, Coonhound Bloodlines and a few magazines about coon hunting you may never have heard of. Comment, call or PM me if you are interested and/or have any of the editions I mentioned. Thank you.

Had a good weekend of hunting. Got to visit with a bunch of Bluetick people at our Old Fashioned Bluetick Get Together in Roberta on Saturday and hunted out of Cochran, Ga. on Friday night. Also killed the first two snakes of the year during the hunt Saturday night. I practically stepped on the first one, because I was not paying attention-you can bet your BP I was from then on because I took another step and reached for the stick to send this one where ever it is that snakes go when they die. The I Love Lucy dog (Nt Ch Gr Ch Blue Bio 6 Again's Big Boy x Blue Bio Terri Tooker) won her cast both nights, picked up two night champion wins and won Queen of Hunt at the Bluetick hunt for the second year in a row. The Big Boy and Terri cross is a half brother, half sister cross off 6 Again. Hunted with some good people's dogs and treed a few coon-5 singles on Friday night and Lucy got 2 by herself Saturday night. Best part was getting to visit with so many Bluetick people-that is what it is really all about anyway.
