Hunting around here has been a little slower than normal thanks to several days of high winds and preparing for the Grand American. We just got back but had a great time and even managed to tree a "swamp" coon. We hunted Clyde and Swag several nights leading up to this past week. The last two times I hunted him he's split treed from the other dogs. The first night he did it, clyde treed in a den and then a double. While clyde we were shining the tree, Swag hooked around and got a track going on the river and treed on a bluff. On the way there, we turned clyde in hoping he would pack to Swag but instead he went the opposite way (seems like they always do!) and treed another single. Swag had a coon in his tree also. Then last Monday we went for another hunt in the pouring down rain. The dogs all struck and worked a track back to our left. Clyde and the other dogs treed. We got to them but Swag wasn't there. He went on past the dogs about 200 yards and was treed with the meat again....a slick tail. He's 13 months old but is making progress each time out it seems. He's going to be a deep hunter and I think he's going to make a very independent dog. He will tree with another dog but much prefers to be his own show. He doesn't make many trees but he's accurate when he does. Time will tell but so far I like!
I look forward to seeing you all around SETWD. As of now, I'm hoping to hunt Clyde on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (definitely over the weekend). I also look forward to the possibility of turning Swag loose with you all one night!
