WB, do u vaccinate ur dogs for the H3N2? I was going to try to talk Chuck into taking the dogs to NRD in OH. We wouldn't have time to get them vaccinated for it. Ruby got her 5th Champion win slip tonight. Almost didn't get to go to the BS. Dandy took off after something when we were out with them this Am. I found him back where we lost him 3 hrs later! I should of beat him, but I was so happy to see the big galoot running at me with his ears turned inside out, that I could only hug him.

CORKY,
TOO BAD ABOUT THE MATTERS. DEER STEAKS SOUND REAL GOOD. AND PRACTICE FOR RETIREMENT SOUNDS REAL GOOD.

JR,
WHATS THE BALL PARK PRICE FOR ONE OF THOSE RUGERS, MIGHT ENTERTAIN THE IDEA OF A .243 FOR MY DAUGHTER.

DANW,
GOOD LUCK WITH THE .223. NOW I GUESS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET THOSE PESKY TURKEYS AT LONG RANGE WHEN THEY GET INTO YOUR CORN RESERVE.

REX,

Hay all, we've been busy. Went to another competition with the dogs on Sunday. Ruby got her first Gr Ch win. She won her heat in the water race and field trial. Then got first line in the field trial.
Dandy got first line in his field trial heat. He should have had first tree, too; BUT just before he got to the tree he stopped to take a crap!!! Then he forgot what he was doing...wondered around until 2 other dogs treed and then he finally decided to tree.
Made over 500 bales of hay yesterday. Chuck, me, his 74 yo old half sister and his 86 yo dad....we didn't move to fast, but we
got-r-done!

Rob,I think I paid $350 for the Gun, and $85 for a Simmons 3X9X40 Scope with a 6" Eye Relief. Simmons scopes are a mid grade scope but come with a life time warranty and the 6" eye relief is great for youngsters to keep them from being scoped in the eye.

GOOD MORNING ALL
HOT HERE...!!!

JR COLLINS,
THANKS FOR THE INFO. GOOD ADVICE ON SCOPE. SHE HAS A NEW ENGLAND FIREARMS IN .223 WITH A OLDER TASCO SCOPE OF MINE. ALL THREE OF MINE HAVE ONE OF THOSE NEW ENGLAND FIREARMS IN .223, I LIKED STARTING THEM WITH A SINGLE SHOT. SHE IS READY FOR A LARGER CALIBER FOR DEER. NOW SHE SHOT A TURKEY WITH MY WINCHESTER MODEL 12 FEATHERWEIGHT WITH A PISTIL SCOPE ON IT. I DID NOT THINK HOW IT WOULD KICK HER. FEDERAL PREMIUM #4 IN 2 3/4 ROCKED HER. GLAD I WAS BEHIND HER. SHE GOT THE BIRD AND SHOT A DEER TWO WEEKS LATER.

REX,
WARM TO MAKE HAY. GLAD YOU ALL GOT IT DONE. THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING IT HERE. MAINLY ROUND BALES NOW.

Prayers for your mom and family, WB.

Ruby got her HTX certificate this wk.

Sounds and looks like we're in for a good storm. Pgh news keeps interrupting Days of Our Lives with SEVERE storm warnings, but they aren't showing them here yet

Thanks for the Congrats, Corky.

Chuck has a Browning 243 he won yrs ago. under the bed in the box. We can't find 6MM shells anymore so maybe he'll let me start using it. Doubt I'll like anything better than my little Mohawk. He bought it for me over 35 yrs ago...it was my first and only rifle.

GOOD MORNING ALL

REX,
CONGRATS ON HTX. THE 243 WILL GET THE JOB DONE. ACTUALLY .243 AND 6MM ARE BASICALLY THE SAME JUST MADE BY DIFFERENT COMPANIES. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD GO TO SOME LARGER GUN SHOWS IN YOUR AREA, SOMETIMES YOU CAN FIND SHELLS FOR HARD TO FIND CALIBERS. OR MAYBE CHECK AT SOME GUN SHOPS MAYBE THEY CAN FIND THEM AND ORDER FOR YOU.

EVERYONE WE WILL BE AWAY OVER WEEKEND, ANOTHER SOCCER TOURNAMENT. SO EARLY HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL.

New Tick-Borne Virus
admin May 2, 2017

Deer Tick CDC

If ticks were not scary enough already, there is a new tick-borne virus on the rise this year. The Powassan virus, which is rarer than the bacterium that produces Lyme but is far more deadly, is now being spread by the deer tick. The Powassan virus causes inflammation of the brain, which leads to death or permanent disability in 60 percent of cases. So far, the CDC has reported 75 confirmed cases, but this number is predicted to rise as we enter into summer and fall when ticks are more active.

Signs and symptoms of infection can include fever, headache, vomiting, weakness, confusion, seizures, and memory loss. Long-term neurologic problems may occur. As of right now there is no specific treatment, but people with severe Powassan virus illness often need to be hospitalized to receive respiratory support, intravenous fluids, or medications to reduce swelling in the brain.

Symptoms

Many people who become infected with Powassan (POW) virus do not develop any symptoms.
The incubation period (time from tick bite to onset of illness) ranges from about 1 week to 1 month.
POW virus can infect the central nervous system and cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and meningitis (inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord).
Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, weakness, confusion, loss of coordination, speech difficulties, and seizures.
Approximately half of survivors have permanent neurological symptoms, such as recurrent headaches, muscle wasting and memory problems.
Approximately 10% of POW virus encephalitis cases are fatal.
Treatment

There are no vaccines or medications to treat or prevent POW virus infection.
If you think you or a family member may have POW virus disease, see your health care provider for evaluation and diagnosis.
Persons with severe POW illnesses often need to be hospitalized. Treatment may include respiratory support, intravenous fluids, and medications to reduce swelling in the brain.
The Powassan virus has actually been around since the mid-1950s, but was only carried by a tick that rarely ever bit humans. Everything changed recently though, when the Powassan virus was discovered being carried by a deer ticks. Deer ticks, unlike the tick that originally carried the virus, readily bite and infect humans.

A recent report from the Maine Medical Center Research Institute found that 7 percent of adult ticks and about 10 percent of ticks in the nymph stage carried the Powassan virus. To make matters worse, the Powassan virus can be transmitted from the tick in as little as 15 minutes. Lyme bacterium needs 24 hours to pass from a tick to a human.

To help keep yourself and family members safe, remember to follow our tick prevention safety tips. Our six tips will help keep your safe and tick free. Also it is important to remember if you have pets to treat them with Flea and Tick Prevention treatments to help prevent them from carrying them into your home.

If you think you or a family member may have POW virus disease, it is important to consult your healthcare provider.

GOOD MORNING ALL
71 HERE AND RAINING.

WBOND,
JUST WHAT WE NEED MORE CRAP FROM TICKS. SEEMS TO BE AN AWFUL LOT OF THEM HERE THIS YEAR. I HAVE PICKED THEM OFF ALL THE DOGS INCLUDING THE THREE IN THE HOUSE. ALSO HAD THEM ON ME AT WORK.

DANW,
GOOD FATHERS DAY GIFT. MY DAUGHTERS TOOK ME OUT FOR A STEAK DINNER. ALWAYS GREAT TO GET A GOOD STEAK. MY YOUNGEST GAVE ME A NEW PITTSBURGH PENGUINS STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP HOCKEY SHIRT. OLDEST CLEANED THE HOUSE, NOT SURE IF THAT WAS FOR ME OR MOM....? MY SON HAD TO WORK, HE WILL TOUCH BASE WITH ME THIS WEEK.

MY YOUNGEST HAD A SOCCER TOURNAMENT OVER THE WEEKEND IN HAGERSTOWN MARYLAND. THEY WON THE U-15 GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP. THEY WERE 4-0. ON SATURDAY THEY DEFEATED THE HOST TEAM FROM HAGERSTOWN 4-0. THEY DEFEATED SMITHSBURG MD 6-1. ON SUNDAY THEY DEFEATED STAFFORD VA 3-1 AND ASHBURN VA 1-0. IT WAS VERY VERY HOT BOTH DAYS. NOW THAT WAS ALSO A GOOD FATHERS DAY WHEN THEY WON IT ALL. FOUR TOURNAMENTS THIS YEAR WITH 14 GAMES THEY HAVE LOST TWO GAMES AND WON TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS. HAVE ONLY GIVEN UP 5 GOALS. PRETTY GOOD WITH A TEAM DOMINATED BY 14 YEAR OLD GIRLS PLAYING IN THE 15 YEAR OLD CLASS. WE HAVE THREE 15 YEAR OLDS ON TEAM. YES PROUD DAD LIKES TO BRAGG.

SURE HOPE ALL YOU OLD MEN HAD A WONDERFUL FATHERS DAY.

Rob, Congrats to your daughter and her teammates.

We had a pretty good Saturday with the dogs. They both won their bench show classes and went back for the Over All. I told Chuck he had to show one and asked which one he wanted...he decided on Dandy. They won the Over All!!! Then we bought $20 worth of tickets for the Chinese auction and he won a sleeping bag and I won a Sonicare toothbrush.
Sunday was a lazy day. He took Ruby to the NH on Saturday and we didn't get home until after 3Am....getting too old for that. We went out to eat and went to visit his parents. Of course, he had to take the trophies to show them.
