Drive again

Here is Kid Rock treed on a bear at less than 7 months old. Steve, right after thanksgiving he is being coonhunted. Its a waste to leave him sit. Dozer will be cathunted by my friend also. Kid was doing too good at less than 1 year to not let him coonhunt. Back to drive. These have drive and determination. Big game hunters should consider these lines also. We had to go somewhere to get more dogs because we were down to one because of them being killed. We got 2 from Steve and have had nothing but GREAT success. They can fight the mean bear and MAKE them climb. Some say a dog cant make a bear climb and they only climb when they want to. This tells me they are not treeing many and have the wrong line. Try this line and you will be happy. Just give the dogs the chance the DESERVE. Ive seen Daisy hunt on a couple different occasions and she is a good one. That unknown factor as you know is why Daisy doesn't already have a NtCh title.

Now that I've go these Harry pups on the way though I will have something to go back with, if something happens to Daisy for sure now. Look out coons and the hunts becuase I'm breaking Daisy out now.

Me and Kitty are going some this week and see what hunts we can find this weekend.

She hasn't been out much lately and is getting pretty upset at me. Going to give her a few times to the woods this week and hit some hunts. She's getting bigger from pups but should be fine.

Good trip

Had a nice trip up to Dean Bitzel's in Ind. then on down to Tenn. to pick-up GrNtCh Hammering Hank and came on back home. Made it back here in time to even go to church Sun. morning. Dean is sure a nice guy to deal with and sure seems to know what's going on. I'll be making another trip up there before to aweful long to get Cryo Joe collected in case something happens to him becuase I know he will go hunt and has since he was a pup. Also it's not to often you run across a hound that will trail and tree by himself first time to the woods at 4 1/2 months old when he's never even seen a caged coon before. Nevermind the PED that he's got which to me is irreplaceable.

I've had several good trips and met alot more nice redbone people. Picking up Hank is part of that. I was sure happy to find out he was coming this way. I didn't buy him but brought him back down here for a guy that has. He's out of the Doc/Music cross and is a GrNtCh. A little slower I think than he use to be but still getting the job done at 8 or 9 which ever he is and super accurate. You can sure tell what he's out of about 100 lbs. but still built nice and looks good too. I was happy to pick him up and bring him to Ark.

Hank sure is a nice hound to have around.

Everything makes sense with what he does becuase he is bred so close to the hounds I already have. However, last night he needed to guard the house from something I guess. He was being good when all of the sudden at 2:30AM he started going off. Guess he's a coondog and a guard dog.

Well I made it about 40 mins. and had to quit.

Went to a hunt up in N.Ark. We turned the hounds loose, Kitty and the rest got further in this block of woods than either one of the walker guys that hunt it had ever been. Not a suprise considering Kitty hasn't been out much. Problem was they were treed up a cliff at a 85 to 80% angle, nothing but rock with water seeping out. So I had to use my hands to crawl up it to get my hound. By the time I was at the top I was hurting bad from all the stuff messed up in my neck. So I had to withdraw. I told those guys they wouldn't have to worry about me until after I had at least another surgery on my neck. This was the first time I ever had to quit a hunt from my problems. I barely made it to the Sonic. I was planning on getting a burger but my neck swelling had my jaw locking up so I had to settle on a shake so I could take my pills. Once they kicked and things got to where I could move again then I could finally drive home. Sure wish I had a good honest handler near. I got the dog power but right now it's getting awefully hard to keep up with them.

Hey that'd be great.

I wouldn't be as worried about it and just wait until I had the surgery which with the VA would be this summer at the soonest. However, Kitty isn't getting any younger and even as hard as she goes I know she's only got another year or two before she's just going to be aweful old to try and finish her. Sure wish she had been put in a hunt before she was 7 and I wouldn't be having this problem but she'd probably been more than I could have afforded.

Kitty may end up like my Ginger female.

Brought old ginger out of retirement at 9. Ginger got 5 first place NtCh wins straight at 9! Only problem one of those she had no plus points becuase she treed a coon but got minused on track. The reason she got minused was she didn't slick tree with the other 3 walkers and the rest of the cast of which I had beat one hound that got 22nd. in the UKC World Hunt 3 times minused her on track saying she quit track when she peed in front of them. Next hunt she was in was a big one in TX. She dissappeared, last time I ever turned a hound lose without a tracking collar. So I'm not scared of pulling her out when most would have retired her. To bad she was 7 before she ever saw a hunt. She would have been a GrNtCh way before now.

I was just gonna email you about Mike but had to run and get spark plugs. He is kinda scared since he's never had a operation besides having a knee scoped. I am a little worried also and hope everything comes out good. And now that he is worried his wife is really worried. Mike and I have had our small problems over the years but have always been there for each other in good and bad times. We are good friends as well as brothers. He had his moments of wanting all Plotts the last couple years but has come back around since Kid showed up and I kept sneaking in more Redbones on him. I just have to convince him to have dual purpose dogs and not just bearhounds. Ill let you know how things go and thanks for the prayers. He may need them. I sent a pm also

Well wanted to go pleasure hunting last night couldn't even do that.

I've been taking a full round of muscle relaxers and pain pills since last weekends competition hunt. Even at that I was still hurting pretty bad. Wanted to go last night but my whole neck was locked up I couldn't even look to my left or up at all. O well.

Gunner

On page 10, you have a picture of Joe Melton with "My Dog" and "Gunner". Gunner was born at my house, when I was 8 years old. My dad owned the mother to the litter. I hunted Gunner as a kid when he was 3 or 4. Joe sold him to someone, at 3 or 4 years old, and the guy beat the dog. Then, Gunner wouldn't hunt for the guy so Joe got him back when Gunner was 5. My dad bought Gunner at 5 years old. I hunted him through high school and into college. My dad passed away in 1999 while I was a freshman in college. My uncle Bruce took Gunner and kept him in his kennel while I was in college. Gunner died in 2001 at 13 years old. I took a weekend away from college every now and then to go over and hunt with my uncle. Literally, the kill season before he died, at 13 years old, we took that old dog out to 3 dumps and sure enough, 3 coon were treed! He is still, to this day, my favorite coon dog of all time. Very personal, couldn't scold him, but if he liked you, he would tree coon like a world champion. That locate of his was 7 and 8 seconds long sometimes. As I said, my favorite of all time! We had several "Fireball" dogs, in our kennel. We had "My Dog", "Ringo" who was later bought and hunted by Dave Riddlebarger, and several pups and young dogs, all of Fireball bloodline.

That's cool you raised Gunner up and were around My Dog and Ringo. GrNtCh RIngo by all acounts was a nice hound too. I've got a picture of him in some of my stuff just still haven't found it all yet. redbone6 do you still have any Fireball bred hounds?

Ive been off hunting, man I hate hear you are under the weather... We are fixing to put the last wins Jack needs to grand him, If you want me to handle Kitty/Daisey holler at me... I wouldnt mind if it will help you.. These dogs need to be finished on out... If I can Help holler at me...

Mike is

doing alot better now. He made it home and is getting better each day. Now I have staph infection in the leg that I keep wrapped all the time. Im on my way to the doctor this morning to get some meds for it and see if they can do something for it. I hope your neck starts to feel better. Had one pup get into a porky the other nite. Man I hate those things. She had them quills in the nose, mouth face, feet and chest. I think the other dogs learned their lesson because they didnt have any quills in them. Its hard to get them out with 2 people but we got them all out. We usually have 3 people to pull and we lay on top off them till they cant hardly breath and give up struggling. Otherwise they struggle so much you cant hold them down. The house we looked at already had a accepted bid so we are looking at others this week. We will probably have to build in the late spring. Hey man, you don't know how much I would appreciate that. I wouldn't be worried one bit about turning over a hound to you or Jarrod and I know they'd win the hunts right. Main one I'm worried about is Kitty, she's not getting any younger. Daisy's still got some time and if I go in for surgery, which would be next summer with the VA, then I could come on back in the Fall at the latest. I don't know but maybe these shots will help some. Don't think it's going to make to much of a difference though. It's crazy when you hurt so bad you almost look forword to having a major surgery. Well anyway if ya'll could help me with Kitty I'll pay everything (fees,gas, food,etc..) and give you money for your time to boot. There just isn't to many I trust with my hounds but I definately do ya'll.

I do not have dogs anymore at all, sadly. A college graduation gift was a beautiful, big 12 month old, fireball bred dog. His dad was going really good at the time, but don't remember his name...2003/2004. He hadn't been hunted. I started training him and walking him through the woods. I rarely got to hunt with other people, so he self started. He really started coming on good. Had him in a couple bench shows (which I don't necessarily enjoy, but my step moms brother does) and he won best of breed at both shows. Bottom line was, he started not only getting rough with other dogs to protect himself, but he just flat out got rough with other dogs on a lead, tree, and the box. I don't like that so I got rid of him. I messed around with a couple yound dogs that Doug Mink had out of the Coffman dogs. I didn't have any luck with any of them. Long story, but haven't had any dogs since. 2 kids later, one now in kindergarten and the other 3 years old, I haven't pulled the trigger to get back in the game! My cousin is a big Walker man in Ohio and he gets down here to take me out a couple times a year. My uncles still hunt and I go with them sparingly, but no sir... I don't have any of them anymore. Does Melton still live in that same trailor in outside Hartford City? I haven't been up there in 10 years or so. I only live about 35 minutes from him, if he still lives there. I live close to the Terry's also. Sorry so long, I just had a good time reading this whole thread and hearing about some of the dogs I had/owned as a kid. Thanks.

Eddie,

This was some great reading. Had a great time catching up. My cousin just came in last weekend to pick up a couple pups from Tinsman. We went out on a bad night, but still treed a couple coon. It was fun to get back out there. Do you remember when my cousin and I stopped by your house a few years back? I still live just south of Muncie. I will have to get out your way and hit the woods sometime. If I ever decide to get a dog or two, I am sure you would know where to find a decent red one.
